Honestly, in my experience the Renegade Guard are so much more comfortable being on the offensive than playing defensively. Between the Militia's rockets out ranging most turrets and LPs to the Beastmen coming in at tier 2 with amazing melee potential, it feels like the Renegades need to push forward much faster as they cannot rely on those Tarantula Turrets for very long. And then of course you have marks like Khorne and Slaanesh that are best utilized on the offensive but just aren't being used because no one wants to play an offensive-oriented Guard army.

I have found one or two in the very early game can be helpful to push a point since vracks militia and guards men deal really, really bad damage in tier 1, but there may be a better way to play them

@@darkagerush3098 When I need tier 1 damage I lean heavily into plasma pistol sergeants. They've done pretty good against AI space marine factions at least

Landshark summed it up really, turrets are a bit of a trap in DoW as they are generally less sturdy than commanders and get outranged quite quickly. There's a time and a place, with Krieg possibly a race, but it's a game of owning land and you can't generally out turtle people.

I'm stolker and this was one of my first 2v2 in Dow and I never played against salamanders and chaos space marines I shouldn't go with vraks but shogun they are really good at countering space marines
