Me and my girlfriend have played in several campaigns together and only once did it go further than fellow adventurers and it was more of a will they won’t they type of thing in the story that everyone had a real fun time with including us. Most important part of this video is the “don’t let anyone force you into a romantic relationship “ part, I’ve seen that before and it’s really creepy, sad, and uncomfortable. This was a great video

@@zooker7938 that sounds cool. Right now my character (Zelda) has a potential relationship that could raise the stakes for my groups campaign. Basically our group was found in Barovia by two vampires Alucard and Evelyn. A few sessions of character development and sticky situations later, Alucard was revealed to be Alexander Von Roeyen (second brother of Strahd Von Zarovich and forgotten prince of Barovia) who wants to set Barovia free. During this time, Alexander started taking a liking to Zelda, heir to Neverwinter and the main target of Strahd. The two characters are falling in love and becoming a dynamic duo within the party. Unfortunately, this relationship would drastically alter the story as my dm said, “if you go any further in this relationship Strahd will win.” Long story short my dm set up a prophecy and I’m one of the central figures and key to defeating Strahd forever. This also means that if I’m killed or turned then Strahd wins. The problem I’m running into is that Alexander is a vampire just like Strahd and could easily kill or turn me with a single bite, kiss etc. Honestly I never thought my character would be put in such a predicament as she wasn’t originally looking for love and the moment it finds her it’s with the youngest brother of the guy who wants her dead. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? 😂🎼🎶

I feel this episode emphasizes all the same things that are essential to every other video, but even more so: - Talk to your DM and group - Leave if people won't stop being rude - Do what you want so long as you're being respectful - Throw all of this away if it's not relevant to your particular game Even though you say it in every video, these really are the core stuff at any issues with DnD. A lot of people can just be talked to to fix whatever meta-problem is going on at the table, but some can't. And when the latter happens, something's gotta give, and either they leave, you leave, or someone remains miserable.

Love and romance are such large, meaningful parts of life (and fantasy drama) that it seems like an oversight to omit it completely in cooperative storytelling. A plot that is driven by an NPC in love with another NPC gives motive to behaviour that otherwise would be hard to justify.

For me, relationships have destroyed more dnd games than otherwise. And sex scenes always turn out disgusting and make me uncomfortable. I 100% agree that you shouldn't subject yourself to a bad experience for the sake of dnd. And maybe as a dm I'd highly suggest talking to your players about the nature of a relationship in dnd. It can be really good if executed right. It builds strong character motivations and such. But player-to-player relationships are not a thing for me and my games. I would suggest avoiding it unless they have been partners for a long time and have a good understanding of the game.

I’m currently in a situation where my boyfriend is the DM but my character is having a relationship with another player's character. Basically my character a half elf cleric princess (Zelda) has caught the attention of Alexander Von Roeyen (the second and youngest brother to Strahd Von Zarovich and forgotten prince of Barovia). Alexander joined the party as a joke character nicknamed Alucard and through much character development and sticky situations has stepped into his role as the prince he was meant to be. Where Zelda comes in is she facilitated that change and became a close friend to Alexander, bringing out the best in him. He eventually started seeing Zelda as more than a friend and now is protecting her with every fiber of his being, especially from his older brother, who has been trying to kill the princess from day one. There is an inside joke that Zelda was able to tame 3 mentally unstable vampires and that’s true to an extent. Alexander is one of these vampires which makes the relationship nearly impossible given the prophecy our dm set up. In short we can’t develop a full relationship because I would be at risk of being turned or killed and I can’t use the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind if that happens.

I just made a video about this. Some monsters use relationships as bait or a trap. And what makes relationships and romance weird at the table is when there is no intentions as a player. As Gms it's better for players to explain the intentions not the actions of their characters. Believe it or not some people marry because of happiness some money and some just because they thought it would bring both. Gms must focus on intentions of romance not the actions during the epilog of the story. If you flirt with the bar maid. Is it for information or just for character flaw but it should be explain and not acted. Telling the Dm " I flirt with the Bard maid to find information about the hag." Is a lot better than having the dm and player making Googoo eyes at each other for 20 minutes the sames goes for PCs who want to use intimidation and describe the gore in the details all we as players care about is the intentions of why are you doing it. To have someone not explain intentions give players at the table that creepy feeling because the unknown intentions is left to them

I am married to the dm, I play a bard that falls in love easy, not a sexual person just loves to easily. My bard flirts and falls in love with npcs, but is in love with a player character. The guy who does the player character is also married (I am friends with the person he is married to) So it is pretty easy to separate my character emotions from myself. It also makes it easy when I am also flirting with my husband half the time. But everyone involved understands and is willing to drop things if they get weird or anything.

Also with romance things in game, pay attention to context for the scenario. The way to much description in a hand holding scene reminded me of a game where a DM used that kind of thing as a part of the story in other ways. DM had us meeting a spy at a nobles party and gave us information on how to identify the spy...then the player was freaking out because "he didn't want to deal with romance" when one of the noble ladies was described with the specifics of how she was holding his hand during it. The DM was specifically describing the sign that was given to us earlier in it. He was ignoring the specifics for the obvious and completely missed that she was covertly giving the sign and waiting for the counter to pass information, he started flipping out about unwanted sexual attention while the rest of our characters weren't right by him and weren't going to directly say anything because our characters weren't there.

My husband is my DM. He is well aware of my infatuation with Jason Momoa. My elven monk is now in a relationship with a human barbarian sidekick who just happens to be named Jason and is described to look like Mr. Momoa. She is now preggers. :)

I've been rping with my husband for many years and even though we are very affectionate people, we both find it cringey to rp a relationship, so it's never been a problem.

I friend of mine DMed a guy getting laid and i'll just say fading to black then rolling for dexterity, charisma and constitution to set up the morning after mood was hilarious. Pulling a muscle, killing the mood or just classic lack of stamina when boning was hilarious. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself as a DM but that's the only time it wasnt awkward.

Here is my method; provide options that would match the personality of the character and could make a compelling character arc. For example, I had a PC who was a secret rogue. She said she was a bard, but I’d roll her sneak attack behind the screen. The party had no healer, so I made a grave domain aasimar cleric who’s heritage and nature of their god was unknown to the players. The player of the rogue indicated interest in the cleric. Suddenly, BAM, character arc built upon the cleric revealing his angel buddy told him the rogue’s secret. When she got scared by that, he revealed his own secret heritage. The rogue took some time to collect herself and do some self reflection. Then a blast from the past showed up in the form of discovering the location of her lost home and missing parents. Unfortunately the campaign dissolved, but there was a lot of potential. The point is, make characters that could work well as love interests, but let the PCs make the first move, and focus on the character developments.

I have been part of a very cool game of heavily modded Lot5R (on a GURPS platform because the GM does not hate us enough to subject us to the native system) and the tragic love story of two player characters was integral to the plot as well as engaging to the whole party. It was legit "star-cross'd lovers, cherry blossoms everywhere, professions of eternal love and ready to jump on a sword at the drop of a hat" romance shit, and we ate it up. It was two straight guys, a liquor store clerk and a software developer from Hamburg, playing the most sincere love drama and nobody offered a peep of protest all the way. Meanwhile, my Unicorn-Clan ninja (tell me you didn't use Lot5R's native rule system without telling me) managed to bully a peasant boy who illegally trained sword fighting so hard in a sparring match he fell in love with her and became her student. So naturally he was disguised as a young nobleman at our conveniently distant court and later bullied into marriage for a laugh. It was a wild campaign and probably the most memorable the group has had.

Still one of my fav IC relationships I've had, at least romantic ones, was my character who was married to a celestial being. Best part was this interaction. Me, a Cleric: ok so we want the big guns against this guy right? Fighter, party leader: Sure. You got some blessing you just learned? Me: Naw I'm gonna go summon my wife. Give me like ten ish minutes. (OOC: DM I'd like Cast Summon Planar Ally.) Fighter:.... WHO DID YOU MARRY. Me: Someone who has a very busy schedule and loves her job, do you mind not interrupting!?

Hey, a small critique. I think that this part of roleplaying needs to be always discussed at every single session 0 but I didn't like the start of the video and some stuff from the intro seemed a bit to stretch, but the ending is nice. Hope that this comment is helpful, because for me the video will be helpful for this forever DM.

As a DM I don't really have any inclination to put relationships in my games unless they are relatively inconsequential or brief in the grand scheme of things. If a player asked me I'd consider it but It feels like a potential minefield of possible discomfort.
