David Sinclair on NUTRITION for Longevity | Study Explained | Different Foods' Impact on mTOR

To increase your longevity and defend yourself against aging,
you need your diet to be spot on.
You need the specifics.
You must feel certain about what to eat and how much -
In the surest way from the 100 years of metabolic research.
And there is nothing surer in longevity than mTOR, a genetic pathway that controls longevity. Because it extends 30% of lifespan in all animal forms.
But how does each food affect this longevity pathway?
How much should you eat?
Today, we’ll see Dr. David Sinclair talking about different diets for longevity.
We’ll try to explain his take by covering specific foods and their impact on mTOR.
So you WILL design your ideal longevity lifestyle.
And only if you love steaks - you’ll discover how to eat a steak and still keep mTOR low for the day
If all that makes you hungry, it will get much worse.

Generally, plant protein is lower in methionine and higher in glycine. That's exactly what you're looking for longevity wise. I'm not against meat at all. But the benefits of fish is mostly omega3, b12 and glycine. It's 2022 and fish is getting more contaminated every year. Stick with small young fish like sardines, anchovy and herring. Tuna is already risky imho.

You're right mark As you said, we've contaminated the oceans and it's best to select smaller fish. But it's our fault for this ocean disaster. You're right, small young fish like sardines, anchovy, and herring are the best. I love mackerel too!

Fish is awesome, but with more nuke subs being built every year, more nuke contamination dumped in the ocean every year, then pesticides, fossil fuels, runoff, etc.... very risky, I eat Moroccan crown prince sardines, taste great, like chicken, a little salmon, chicken, thats it for meat, miss shrimp, lobster, etc.... but the hell with it, Ocean is scary. just fukishima alone,

I would love to see the macro needs and AAs needs for an elite athlete who trains 2-3x a day. Additionally, what the insights says for RMR match requirements to mitigate metabolic syndromes. There’s always so much contradictory advice when it comes to longevity vs athletic performance. We often see long term cardiovascular disease developed in elite athletes. Finding the fine line balance in diet and supplementation that allows oxidative stress management, cellular recovery without sacrificing performance. Often we, the athletes, live on a very high protein diet. Where it’s 1+ grams protein/1lbs body weight. Massive difference from the 1g/kg lean muscle mass. Really appreciate your time and thoughts. I’ve found your channel very educational.

  • @oolala53

    @oolala53

    Жыл бұрын

As has been said, living a life to become or continue to be an athlete is off and actually at odds with a long health span, so I don’t think it’s something that wellness messiah spends a lot of time on. He has even said that the average person has an advantage, and not having to try to improve athletic performance all the time and his inference is that it’s actually a distraction. There’s been some studies on lifespan of athletes, but if you also look at the information on long lived cultures, they are active for their lives, but they don’t do a lot of pushing themselves for long hours every day. There are some channels out there of people who have a very different point of you on this and think that higher protein amounts and working for strength even more than aerobic ability does lead to a long life. Maybe you have heard of Layne Norton or Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, both students of Donald K. Layman. I don’t know what these people think about the whole M tour issue, which I am, assuming is the one that leads other researchers to think that low protein diets are better for long-term health. Best of luck to you and your endeavors.

I totally agree with you. Once you get in your 60s you definitely need more protein to maintain muscle. As we age we loose muscle at a fast rate. If you don’t increase your protein you will practically waste away. I’ve seen older women that had no muscle tone and a fall will break just about every bone in their bodies. At that age is not longevity is quality of life. Do you want to live a couple more years in a nursing home or you want to live those years being active and enjoy life. I’ll pick the later.

The whole aging argument is crap. It goes like this: they compare young Y and old O under different conditions A and B, If then OB is doing as good as Y it is concluded that B is necessary. Yet, the baseline is taken from a detrimentally aged population, defined as norm, yet NOT being representative at all, for what would objectively be good. What actually WOULD BE good: nobody knows. There are educated guesses, at most. However, if your biological age is much less than the nominal age, say 40 against 60, and you actually ARE healthy, it would be a mistake to conclude that you would need more protein, just for the reason that nominally you are 60. Too much protein makes sick, and hence is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The argument is circular. if however you are NOT healthy then first improve your general condition: fasting, I.F, exercising, keeping inflammation in check = supplement 6 mo with GlycNAC.... and the implement a on\off balanced approach for mtor and ampk.

Sinclair is against fat a bit because he used it in his lab in a toxic way, which can help you understand his position. Generally speaking, I'm very pro eggs (unless highly oxidized, deep frying, brown yolk). Butter - it depends if your body can burn it, which depends on your entire diet. But it is good fat, especially from grass-fed cows. It's different from red meat fat which is more toxic, as it is designed to nourish babies, not just be storage of fat with agricultural toxins.

Butter, cheese, don't have a problem here - Butter - good, won't affect mTOR - Whey & casein protein - have good stimulation on mTOR. Suggest limitig to 40% of total daily protein consumption. Hey Otto . Good question - I did mentioned legumes shortly, as high in l-arginine, moderate in essential amino acids. Carb content varies based on type of legume. I can tell you also, you absorbed 70% of protein in them.

I heard that daily intake of proteins is per kg :D and you use constant for an adult (even without splitting it into men and women), not good, but rest is ok

I don't understand why you are presenting the study that pesco-vegetarians, vegetarians and vegans live longer and than shortly after that you say that red meat boosts longevity. Red meat was evaluated by the WHO / IARC as probably carcinogenic to humans - I just don't understand why everyone is promoting the daily consumption of it.

Hi Michael, I understand your point. Where did I say red meat boosts longevity? Feel free to put here the time. I analyzed the amino acid content of different foods and their impact on mTOR. I suggested limiting to 30%-40% max of protein requirement if you eat red meat. If anything, I showed that processed meat increases death and a high intake of red meat can activate mTOR. Both are the opposite of boosting longevity.

If you keep your insulin down, then mTor goes up then comes down quickly, if your insulin remains high then mTor stays high longer, read Porfessor Ben Bikmen, the key is to AVOID starchy refinded carbs. ie sugar and carbs that convert rapidly into sugar. Protein is absolutely essential along with fats.
