David Rhodes Guitar Rig | 2023 Peter Gabriel i/O Tour

Ойын-сауық

For over 40 years, David Rhodes has been the main guitarist for Peter Gabriel, as well as playing on several other albums including Kate Bush and Paul McCartney.
We had the pleasure of being invited to the Glasgow Hydro by David to check out what he's playing on the road with Peter Gabriel during the "i/O Tour". See how David sets up his full digital rig and which guitars he uses that work for the extensive back catalogue they are playing.

This was great. David has always impressed me as a guitarist, understated but very present and integral to the sound. He also seems to be such a nice person.

Thanks for the video. Although the whole point of a rig rundown is to see what the artist uses and how he uses it. I myself own a Helix. I would love to see how he actually had his path on the display, how he has his songs mapped and how he uses snapshots. The camera work on this point in the video was bad because it's not really about the conversation they are having alone, it's in combo with the gear.

He does! I guess when you hang for 40+ years... I've seen David on 4 PG tours (soon 5) dating back to opening for Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour in 1983, and I don't think I've EVER heard him speak! It seems like his tech dialed in the Helix for him, probably only took 6 or 8 hundred hours; crazy how little he concerns himself with the gear. 12 string Steinberger though!!!

I love my tube amps and a great pedal but the others are using quad cortex’s. Maybe consider them since just my opinion the helix is not as good in feel, sound, UI. And too much tweaking. UI on the quad is great. Feels and sounds better. No comments are meant to hurt any helix users.

I love his very musical style! Love the whole band in fact. Too bad I couldn’t make it to this years tour. the tickets were simple too expensive… was a bit dissapointed that especially Peter Gabriel had become so much elitist that his music is only for the wealthy ones 😢

Nice fella, but these sort of rig rundowns are really annoying as he's one of those guys who just isn't into his gear. Re - the helix, he hasn't got a clue what sounds he's using. He's reliant on his tech just giving him gear (or tools as he calls them) that works (see other comments that say similar things here). I would hope that the interviewer could delve a little more here. But as I say, lovely fella, and great musician.

His tech, most likely. C'mon Steve, chill. He clearly states that he views gear as tools. Granted, it doesn't make for the most thrilling rig rundown, but he's gracious enough to showcase it himself.

The amps aren’t phony, he’s using them because he’s running his helix direct to FOH and it’s nice to have something on stage as well for feedback purposes/just being able to feel the air coming out of the amps

PG is not a nostalgia act trying to cash out one last time. It takes a lot of courage to play 10-11 news songs. It would have been a lot easier and safer just to play the old hits. The new album is great, so I was very happy to hear the new songs live. PG is not getting younger, so probably the first and last time for a lot of those songs. If not the last time - period.
