Ойын-сауық
For over 40 years, David Rhodes has been the main guitarist for Peter Gabriel, as well as playing on several other albums including Kate Bush and Paul McCartney.
We had the pleasure of being invited to the Glasgow Hydro by David to check out what he's playing on the road with Peter Gabriel during the "i/O Tour". See how David sets up his full digital rig and which guitars he uses that work for the extensive back catalogue they are playing.

Backing musicians like David Rhodes are the unsung heroes of every major professional artists in the world.
I love how David makes Peter’s music better. He always seems to play the perfect part for every song. That’s the mark of a first class player.
I've always loved David's playing. He definitely has his own thing going on. Playing for Peter Gabriel is an amazing life.
Saw him in Boston a couple weeks ago. He never tried to steal the show. He was just rock solid and always seemed to play the right thing at the right time.
This was great. David has always impressed me as a guitarist, understated but very present and integral to the sound. He also seems to be such a nice person.
This is great! I saw Random Hold open for PG in '82. Was so blown away, I raced out and bought their first LP. Still have it!
And besides his documented exceptional guitar play, he is such an adorable guy. Kudos to him!
Just saw him on the tour in Canada. He is definitely one of my favorite guitarists
David Rhodes playing is unique and different. I’ve seen him with Peter Gabriel seven times incredible.
What cool, humble dude!
oh my, this video made me hungry for David's patches. Would be amazing to be able to use his sounds. But it is all in the fingers, naturally. And that's where David's amazing talent is.
I can hear Peter exclaim now, MR…DAVID RHODES!!!!
I always admired this guy and the professionalism of his playing. I'm a Helix user and see him using one himself makes feel a sort of connection. Great video!
Rhodes con il suo stile ha fatto cose molto importanti per PG. Grazie.
Great video. Can’t wait to see the show in Pittsburgh!
What a gent! Thank you for the interview.👍👍
Finally a guitar player... and not a faceless shredder. Excellent musician! I also love his affinity to Steinberger guitars.

Ain’t that the truth ?
Thanks for the video. Although the whole point of a rig rundown is to see what the artist uses and how he uses it. I myself own a Helix. I would love to see how he actually had his path on the display, how he has his songs mapped and how he uses snapshots. The camera work on this point in the video was bad because it's not really about the conversation they are having alone, it's in combo with the gear.
On top of being a great talent, he's also super stylish.
Very cool to hear David talk about his craft. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for checking out the video! Was such a cool opportunity to get behind the scenes
Thanks! It's cool to meet the man behind the great guitar playing. You are really talented! Hope you're enjoying the tour so far. 🧡🎸🎶
Saw him on the I/O tour. Great playing and sound!
Great interview. David is an exceptional guitarist 👍🏻
A proper Fretboard Gentleman.
just watched the tour in London, just reeks of quality . wonderful experience
This is great! As a keyboard player, I'd love to see the keyboard rig.
This is great!!!!!
Excellent video 😊
Sounds incredible, possibly
Great David I love his low gain guitar sound!
Один из игроков Команды . Браво Красавчик!!!
What a lovely dude
such a lovely, humble man, i’d love to meet him, could talk to him for hours!
Cool!! SO nice to see David, rare to see him in interviews...., also...he laughs just like Peter XD

He does! I guess when you hang for 40+ years... I've seen David on 4 PG tours (soon 5) dating back to opening for Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour in 1983, and I don't think I've EVER heard him speak! It seems like his tech dialed in the Helix for him, probably only took 6 or 8 hundred hours; crazy how little he concerns himself with the gear. 12 string Steinberger though!!!
He was with Talk Talk 1986-88, great work on The Colour of Spring and Spirit of Eden
Love to see David under the spotlight. Ever since watching the OVO tour DVD I was like "who's that guy??" and that very specific overdrive or distortion sound with what sounds to me like a ring shifter or I don't know what kind of modulation 🔥

There never was an OVO tour DVD, and not even a tour...
grat video! never seen that Steimberg 12 system.
excellent video! We need helix patches!
Nice shoes. Nothing like a pair of antique brogues :).
Thanks for sharing. It mentions an interview with him that's already up. Could you point me to it?

Thanks for checking it out! Here's the interview here :) - www.guitarguitar.co.uk/news/141879/
One of my alltime favorite guitar players….playing with my alltime favorite artist….desperately trying to talk himself into forgetting how much better his old analog rig sounded compared to the digital horseshit he is using now…… It’s not too late mate….front house guy will suddenly remember how to be a sound man when you bring all that cool old shit back out
“They’re just tools”……..no no, they’re works of art ! 🎸
Peter Light
Interesting stuff.....but what's 'grubby' about a LP Studio??
yes, but whose jacket is he rocking?
Church's brogues?!
I love my tube amps and a great pedal but the others are using quad cortex’s. Maybe consider them since just my opinion the helix is not as good in feel, sound, UI. And too much tweaking. UI on the quad is great. Feels and sounds better. No comments are meant to hurt any helix users.
I love his very musical style! Love the whole band in fact. Too bad I couldn’t make it to this years tour. the tickets were simple too expensive… was a bit dissapointed that especially Peter Gabriel had become so much elitist that his music is only for the wealthy ones 😢
His guitar rig is basically a Helix then. That's fine but not great TV 😂 . And ... he uses a pair of beautiful Rivera combos as monitors ! 😵
"Gibson Shrunken 335" = 339?
Soooo , lets see his signal path and patches up close on the Helix , a good interview but not really a "rig rundown " is it
Excellent - I have a good feeling you wont have your LIFE Screwed Over by the likes of Billy Joel - Rock on !
He's quite posh ain't he
Yeah, not coming o Chile :(
I can’t put my finger on it, but for some reason… That was hard to watch.
Nice fella, but these sort of rig rundowns are really annoying as he's one of those guys who just isn't into his gear. Re - the helix, he hasn't got a clue what sounds he's using. He's reliant on his tech just giving him gear (or tools as he calls them) that works (see other comments that say similar things here). I would hope that the interviewer could delve a little more here. But as I say, lovely fella, and great musician.

Agree. Rhodes is one of the most interesting players, but should have got John Bollinger from Premier guitar to do it properly.
Dude had not really much idea of what he's using on the helix, pretty sure someone else made the setup for him 😂
He knows nothing about his guitars and amplification, but he plays good; so I never saw a more boring Rig Rundown.
can't understand a word the scotty says.
it is so silly when these major players are bewildered by their own rigs. its pathetic and insincere. and more phony non miced amps. I didnt realize I was using so many things. REALLY? Then who built your presets?

Damn dawg cut the old man some slack, he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed anymore.. 🤔🤘🏼✌🏼

His tech, most likely. C'mon Steve, chill. He clearly states that he views gear as tools. Granted, it doesn't make for the most thrilling rig rundown, but he's gracious enough to showcase it himself.

totally agree. Lovely guy, but hasn't a clue about his digital side of his rig.

The amps aren’t phony, he’s using them because he’s running his helix direct to FOH and it’s nice to have something on stage as well for feedback purposes/just being able to feel the air coming out of the amps
Awesome setup. Too bad the setlist for this tour wasn't as good

Agreed........too many slow depressing new songs sucked the life out of the show at times.

I liked all the new songs. I would have been fine without hearing Don't Give Up, and the rest of those hits, but even they sounded good live

PG is not a nostalgia act trying to cash out one last time. It takes a lot of courage to play 10-11 news songs. It would have been a lot easier and safer just to play the old hits. The new album is great, so I was very happy to hear the new songs live. PG is not getting younger, so probably the first and last time for a lot of those songs. If not the last time - period.
