I first heard We Shall Behold Him when the legendary Sandi Patty sang it in concert when I was just a kid. It was in the Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas. It was such a cool vibe - in the round and on a rotating stage. It was a jaw-dropping moment for everyone in the room. I was immediately in love with her unparalleled talent and warm spirit. That’s why, when the songwriter, Dottie Rambo, asked me to record the song, it took me a while to come around to the idea. After a few years of mulling it over and a little prodding I eventually - and humbly - agreed. I gathered a group of incredible musicians at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville and, while I was doing some hand-wringing, explained the arrangement I had been working on. Everyone threw their ideas in and we finally ended up with a recording that I hope not only honors Dottie’s creation but also the indelible stamp that Sandi left on the song. The hope of one day seeing our savior face to face is what keeps us going as we journey through this troubled world. And not only does it comfort us concerning what happens after we take our final breath on this earth, but it gives meaning to our existence right now. This life is only Chapter 1 of your incredible story. Today, I hope your moments are filled with the joy of knowing that one day…the sky shall unfold…

I heard Sandi Patti sing this years ago and didn’t think anyone could sing it better until I just heard you sing it! God has truly anointed you in blessing us as you sing flawlessly and paint a heavenly picture. I believe your voice is what heaven sounds like. David, you’re simply the best!

Sometimes it is like that - the first person you hear sing a song is the one you think does the best. But you... you just knocked it out of the park!! Great job!! On July 24,2015 my wonderful mom was called home to be in the presence of OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR!!! When I left the hospital in uncontrollable tears this is the first song I heard David Phelps sing. I thought that is exactly what my mom was doing. She was beholding him. Thank David Phelps for always being there for me in the sad times and the great times. David Phelps is the ONLY singer I listen to and it's every day on my phone, on my DVD player which I have over 50 dvd's of the Gaither Homecoming and of course David's dvd's. I listen to David Phelps in my car too. An I play him singing as loud as it possibly can be. One of your biggest fans in Central Pennsylvania

I've watched this clip many times, but tonight, the Holy Spirit showed me that he was there on that night. My guess is it's there whenever David sings. God loves music, and David Phelps is the best performer and has been for a long time.

When I heard you sing this just now, I felt that I could almost see Jesus!! How beautiful your voice. How beautiful is my Jesus! Oh what a glorious day that will be when I see his face. My husband passed away 6 years ago. I miss him now more than ever.

I wrote We Shall Behold Him in French on Good Friday of 1983. I was HIV-positive at the time I wrote the song.

He makes my life so happy. I listen to him and all my problems just melt away. No one has ever made me feel that way. Thank you and God's blessings be with you forever.

The tears unfold as the words of this song take on a life of there own. Jesus is lord I hold fast to the knowledge and blessed hope to see him soon in his unmatched glory.

If I ever need a lift in my spirit, I just pull up this song by David. As a musician, composer and singer, I am stunned each time I listen to this. I cannot get enough of David. He is without a doubt my favorite vocalist. Every note, every word he sings is filled with the anointing of God. The Lord has certainly given us a great gift in David Phelps. He exudes the very life of Christ.

The first time I ever heard you sing was on the Gaither Homecoming and have loved you ever since. Dottie Rambo knew who she was writing songs about. She knew her Lord and Savior. Love your reaction to David Phelps! I have been fortunate to see him in person and will be going to another concert in one month ( 3-2-23}. He is funny,charming and so sincere and sweet. There will be an enormously LONG Line of people who want to see him, take pictures have him sign something they have and whatever! After a 2 to 3 hour concert, he will still stand up and greet EVERY in line who wants something signed or take pictures! Just a truly sweet, easy going, calm, gentle and kind hearted person! I LOVE THIS MAN!! He does not drink a Coholic drinks and nd does not smoke either! I know no one is perfect down here, but I would say “He is close!!”

David, my first memory of you singing was while watching Gaither Homecoming Hour on TV. You sang "The Lifeboat" with Sister Vestal! WOW!!! It became one of my favorite songs! Every word is true and anointed! And until the Lord gathers His jewels HOME🙌I am a fan! When we get to Glory, I want to sing with you & Vestal, and raise my voice to our Savior and sing a new song to Him!✝️ I have gradually lost my ability to sing, due to inflammation in my vocal cords from RA & other medical issues. But, that's OK because I know I'm going to sing for ETERNITY 🤗 God bless and keep you 🙏!

Beautifully done!!! Sandi Patty is who I first heard do this wondrous song--and excellently!!! David has a way of making every song he sings--his own. His love for his Savior comes through above all else. God gave him such an amazing gift in his voice and it transcends so many boundaries!!!! He has been blessed in communicating songs of faith to anyone listening and opening the way for the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of those listening!!!
