I'm a Yankee fan of nearly 50 years. I have hated every Red Sock great from Fisk, Rice, Evans, Tiant too Pedro, Manny and Betts. David Ortiz I could never dislike him. I loved watching at Bat or playing in the dugout. Always smiling and being a great ambassador of the game. This was a well deserved honor for Him and Red Sox nation

2013 Series was EPIC!!! Ortiz deserves this with playing in Boston and winning 3 trophies...!!! 2004, to break the Ruth curse in the manner it was done, 0-3 to the Yankees and then win the Series was soooo sweet... Congrats Hall of Famer Ortiz!

@@johnbernacki6155 unless more info came out that I’m not aware of he only failed an “anonymous” survey of things mlb wanted to ban and wanted to see how prevalent these substances were. Rob manfred came out and said it was a supplement not steroids or hgh. Even if it was peds that can be forgiven for any player if it was one time and they still had great careers after. Guys like Manny and Arod kept getting caught and mcguire and bonds went completely overboard to the point that they looked like freaks.

Congrats to him. Loved watching him play and for good reason. One of the best baseball players I’ve ever watched. Congrats Big Papi! This was well deserved. 34

Born and raised in Massachusetts. I watched big papi from 2003 on. One of, If not the greatest clutch player of my lifetime. Much deserved.

Great job Big Papi!!! My favorite player of all time and in my opinion the greatest Red Sox and DH of all time. Clutch hit after clutch hit in the postseason and 3 world series titles. What an awesome career. I always knew no matter how many runs the Sox got down in a playoff game, as long as Papi was in the lineup there was always a chance. Thanks David for all the great memories and playoff game walkoffs.

After the curse was broke, my 2 favorite big Papi moments: His speech, which lifted the whole Boston community, as well as the nation after the Boston Marathon bombing; Then, later in 2013, game 2 of the ALCS against Detroit, calling an impromptu meeting with teammates in the dugout, barking at them to stop playing scared. He backed up the talk with that 8th inning slam, sending Torii Hunter over the fence into the Sox bullpen, with policeman, Steve Horgan, raising his arms in victory. Unbelievable! You want a leader? I'll start with this guy!

I know greenys were very prevalent in the 70s 80s and early 90s.. when did ortiz ever fail a drug test when there was punishment for using? Just admit it he was clutch and a hall of Famer... the Yankees last world series had a lot to with arod and he was juiced out of his mind, but Jeter and Rivera get to have that world series on their record
