David Mitchell RANTS at Rhod Gilbert Over Dogs Eating Marmite | Would I Lie To You | All Brit

Ойын-сауық

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall claims that he puts Marmite on his face so that his dog can lick it off as a treat.
Would I Lie To You is a British comedy panel show hosted by Rob Brydon with team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack. Team mates must remain poker-faced while revealing personal stories previously known only to their closest confidantes, being put through their paces in a quick-fire lies round, and explaining their real or invented relationship with a mystery studio guest - all with the ultimate aim of discerning the truth from the fiction.
Joining team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack are With guest panellists Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Rufus Hound, Miranda Hart and Rhod Gilbert. As usual, the participants aim to hoodwink their opponents with absurd facts and plausible lies about themselves in a bid to secure a team victory and the dubious honour of being dubbed the liar of the week.
All Brit is the home of classic British comedy!

I'm on Rhod's side here. David is thinking about this in terms of logic, but Rhod is thinking realistically. Even if all dogs couldn't stand Marmite, it would be impossible to prove that logistically.

I agree with you, and by extension with Rhod. I get where David's coming from, though. Logically, certain animals SHOULD hate certain foods. Dogs, for example, should hate chocolate and garlic, cats have no sweet taste receptors, so they should hate sweets and they're apparently meant to hate citrus. The problem is, animals aren't logical. Dogs will eat chocolate even though it will kill them, cats will eat bananas even though there's no reason for them to, dogs will eat pizza even though most ingredients are either indigestible or outright toxic to them, and I had a cat eat an orange, presumably just to confuse me.

I usually find David's logic faultless, but the truth is no one can answer that question with any degree of certainty because you would have to know the taste preferences of every dog on the planet - he does say "if all dogs hate marmite, it can't be true". It's a yeasty byproduct of beer-brewing that someone added tonnes of salt to and spread on toast. It has a real umami flavour, and is very versatile- works as a spread with peanut butter, goes well in a cheese sandwich, works pretty well as stock for soup, and is surprisingly nice with lentils. Some people absolutely hate it though. But those people are heretics who should be out to the sword for their own good.
