David Lee Roth hosts MTV Hot Seat 1991

David Lee Roth hosted this MTV show called The Hot Seat all week in 1991 to promote his album A Little Ain't Enough. Very similar to a Guest VJ stint they just renamed it the Hot Seat. Sorry, I've removed the videos.

I think I met him in the spring of '85 while I was stationed in Norfolk Virginia. Back in the day, when you saw someone hitch hiking on an interstate (I-95), you'd give them a ride. I was out driving around on I-95 and noticed this blonde long haired dude hitch hiking and I stopped, and gave him a ride. He was drunk/high (I could tell and smell) and I asked him where he was going and he said "wherever you're going." I thought it weird that he would say that and when I really looked at him, I thought to myself, "this dude looks like David Lee Roth of Van Halen. I then asked him was he David Lee Roth because he looked exactly like him, he said, "ok, you got me, yes I'm David Lee Roth." I told him to stop shittin me and show some ID; he said he had lost his wallet. He then asked to crash at my place cause he was tired (and drunk/high I think); btw, he was going south when I picked him up. I took him to my apartment and let him crash, then, I went and got my girlfriend (I didn't call her) and told her there's a dude who claims to be DLR crashing in my apartment. She came over with me and she said, "damn that does look like him." He slept on the sofa for a very long time and didn't get up once, and my girl went home. When I woke up that next morning, he was gone. She called me and asked was he still there and I told her he had booked. Didn't get his autograph, he didn't ask for anything, didn't steal anything, and...I don't know whether that was him or not but it sure looked like him, acted like him, had a lot of rings on his fingers, and dressed like him (a rock star). Don't know when he left or got up, he didn't even eat anything; if it was him, he probably woke up sober, said damn I gotta get the hell out of here, called somebody and they picked him up. This is a true story. I was in the Navy at the time stationed at Naval Station Norfolk VA from 1984 to 1986 and that happened in the early part of 1985.

Have you ever tried contacting him to tell him this and ask if it was truly him? Giving him a ride and place to sleep undisturbed deserves knowing. Either way, be it Dave or not, very nice of you to do that.

He was still cool here. I am not sure at what point he developed that crazy grin he does now. I don't even know what to call it. I am just wondering why it came about - drugs?

yeh i dunno it is weird. he used to have this stoner kinda vibe sure a little hyper at times (coke?) but now that whole vibe is gone. it's odd.

I’m pretty sure that happened when ”DLR Band” came out so in ’98, ’99. Something like that. I saw him live in ’99 and he had that grin then.

@@STEVEHEROLDslick insight. I think because he saw the limitation in the drugs, and has probably stopped doing it (except for a few interviews maybe. I think he and the brothers were on coke when promoting “A Different Kind of Truth” in those black and white videos where they talk together on bar stools). I feel I can relate. When I was using a lot of drugs, I was “in the zone and larger than life”. But I had to get sober for my sanity and health and now I’m just me. And you grow past that trope of what you thought you were. That weird looking grin is what he looks like as a very old man. He has aged harshly to today’s point in time (2024). But these old videos show how he shined
