David Lascher & Christine Taylor: Blossom, Brady Bunch, & 90’s Nostalgia
David Lascher (Blossom, Hey Dude) & Christine Taylor (Zoolander, Hey Dude) discuss David’s experience playing Mayim’s boyfriend on Blossom, how the pandemic brought Christine and husband Ben Stiller back together, and they help us break down the deeper psychological layers of nostalgia. They reflect on the cult following of their show Hey Dude on the early days of Nickelodeon, Christine’s comedy trajectory and her legendary role as Marcia Brady in the Brady Bunch movies, and what David thinks landed him the Blossom role. Mayim, Christine, and David explain why people are so nostalgic for the 90’s and why content from that era resonates with so many today, why the pandemic forced us to reexamine our interpersonal relationships, and why their kids are better prepared for the world than they were.

Not going on Double Dare when I was a kid will be the one regret on my deathbed. 😆 This interview unlocked so many childhood memories. Barbie even came out with a dude ranch theme around this time. I got it because of this show! Loved Hey Dude. 💜

I had a Double Dare book that recreated the show at home. I think my poor sisters were coerced into playing it A LOT! 😄
I absolutely loved "Hey, Dude", in all of its kitschy glory!
Mayim.. not surprised, but happy to hear you are supporting the writers. You are walking the walk.
I absolutely loved hey dude. Was born in 84 and it was the first more grown up tween show I watched before I got into saved by the bell. I loved melody so much and I remember wanting to be a lifeguard just like she was. I still watch hey dude and I’ve even got my 9 year old daughter to watch it. Such wholesome tv, which is almost unheard of today❤

I looooved Hey Dude when I was a kid! I was born in 83 and Hey Dude was perfect for my age! I used to watch Salute Your Shorts and Clarissa Explains it All too. I loved Melody (Christine Taylor) on Hey Dude and I definitely had a crush on David Lascher even as a 7/8/9 year old haha. So glad you did this episode! It was so fun to take a trip down memory lane!

1982 baby here, and I agree with everything you said!
I truly do hope that todays’s episode will be a hint that an adult Blossom series is actually in “the powers that be” table! Adult Blossom as mom of a teenager or two and working on something truly related to the others (environmentalist, social worker, nurse..) would be great! 💜

Me to. Would love to See Blossom and Vinnie end up together.
I am at the prime time for watching these shows - I’m 41 now and was 9 in 1990 so Nickelodeon was HUGE!! This was really fun to watch and listen to. They both have aged so well and Christine does NOT look 51, holy crap. She looks much, much younger
As a 90’s kid, this is all the nostalgia I need 💕😊💕
I think child star Alison Arngrim (Nellie on Little House on the Prairie) would be an awesome guest. I don't know if you ever saw that show, but she was a perfect mean girl and her actual life had so many ups and downs, but she made it through. She has a good story to tell that others may relate to. I would love for you to interview her because you would do such a good job discussing her life.
Love seeing this being from the same generation as David and Christine, so happy to have lived through the 90s without all of the current distractions in life. They are so right.

Hey Dude was one of my all-time favorite shows on Nick back in the day! I had such a huge crush on Ted. I was so excited when I found this on DVD and could get me kids into the show. The 90's is when Nick was the best. The cartoons and the shows were amazing
Shows like “Hey Dude” “ salute your show” “Wild and crazy Kids” “Double Dare” made my Saturday’s absolutely magical.

I used to watch those too in the early 90’s I am a 90’s kid I grew up all though out the 90’s
I loved Hey Dude and Blossom! So fun to see you all together!
90s Nickelodeon was a big part of my childhood, I loved it! 90s was the last decade before technology took over.
Blossom!! I had my mom make me the hat with sunflowers and I bought work boots back in the 90’s, Wore it everyday.
I was a very big fan of Hey Dude from the age of five to whenever they stopped playing the reruns. I was shockingly young, yet remember so much about it. Each of their careers brings up a ton of nostalgia taking me from my earliest memories of Hey Dude all the way through The Wedding Singer and Sabrina the Teenage Witch in my teens. So fun!
As a 47-yr-old, this brings back sooooo many memories. This one was a little more upbeat, a lighter feeling than some of the heavy but necessary convos needed in prior episodes. Loved it!
Christine Taylor’s personality is just fucken relatable and love how chill she comes off.
This brought back so many memories. I thought I was the only one that watched Hey Dude! Lol Now I want to find old episodes to watch!

I loved "Hey Dude" back in the day!
Growing up as a teenager in the 1990s, I watched both Blossom and Beverly Hills 90210 and never put together that Vinnie on Blossom and Kyle on 90210 were actually the same actor until about 20 years later when I was browsing through Wikipedia remembering the television shows that I watched in my teenage years in the 1990s and saw that David Lascher was the actor for both roles. Good acting skills David, I didn't notice that you were the same actor in both roles.
I was born on Halloween in 1984 ... I had parents that were summer of love parents and I was raised 1970s style! I beg for those days back!
Maureen McCormick was the original marcia brady in the tv series brady bunch. I love that decade. I watch reruns to relive the memories!
Really good interview! I need to listen to their podcast as I was very impressed with Christine Taylor as Marcia Brady even as a child! 90s nostalgia has been going on since like 2007 lol. I always say the 90s (late 80s baby here glad to have lived then) was the last best decade. I wish I had experienced the 70s and 80s too. As a child the 90s was awesome.
I remember "Hey, Dude!" fondly. I actually, before this podcast, I remembered this show every now and then throughout the years and wondered how David Lascher was doing. 😅 ❤
I agree with you guys on the nostalgia and all- the Kid90 documentary hit home because THAT was literally life even not in Hollywood. I found it to be very close to my teen years. I recently re-binged Blossom and am in the middle of Facts of Life right now. There IS a lot of that missing. Middle class and teen guidance. I feel like both are still very relevant.
My gosh, Christine STILL looks like Marcia Brady. Thanks for this interview, Mayim. I remember Hey Dude with much fondness.
I have nephews and a niece who are 90s kids and my own oldest started his life on the cusp (‘89). What a kick this episode was! I shared it when all of them.
I’m 47 and definitely get nostalgic. With Blossom,TGIF… 80’s movies and my 8 yr old loves those shows too.
Mayim! Hello! I live in Uvalde Texas.. yes, I am a teacher. We are coming up on the year anniversary. It would be great to see an episode on this grief of a community. What do you think can stop all these killings? Our whole community is not together, but separated, hurt, mad and concerned. Yes, there are many things that would lead you to believe we are United. In many cases, we are not.

Great interview! Born in late ‘86 and those born 2 or 3 years give or take on either side of me were the audience for this show. Melody was my first crush as a 4-5 year old and I loved Ted’s antics!

That was a fun interview, and everyone seemed so down to earth. I enjoyed that.
Hey Dude was my absolute favorite show in the 90s. I own like three seasons on dvd. David Lascher was my main crush during that time and I’d write about him in my diary. Lol
It's awesome you reunited with a co-star from Blossom, Mayim. I also totally remember Christine Taylor from Zoolander. I also remember her from Friends, which features David Schwimmer and I know he was on Blossom even though I never watched it. I also feel very nostalgic when I remember years from when I was little. Sometimes sequels to my childhood movies cause me nostalgia too. I really miss you as Amy in Big Bang Theory! You're my favorite actress ever! Nobody could've played Amy better than you! Also Harry Potter causes me nostalgia too
Born in 1979, I also have great nostalgia for the 90s! It did feel like a simple, happy time.
Hey Dude was one of my fav shows when i was little.... and fyi... i was 5 yrs old. Also watching 90210 with my older cousin (the babysitter) lol huge fan!
Hey Dude was 100% my favorite TV show as a kid.
Christine & David both look fab! Very attractive people who seem pleasant inside too. Blossom I looooooved! I don’t think we had Hey Dude in UK? I was a teen in the 90s….fab time! Nostalgic!❤
GREAT guests and interview! - made my face and heart SMILE :))
This episode was unexpectedly entertaining!! Had so much fun listening from beginning to end!!
I loved this conversation! Thank you
Mayim, Loved this show today, a lot of funny stories and crazy thoughts and experiences , that was the 90's. You should do some more of these times of shows. Thanks
Such a fun episode!!❤
Such an awesome and fun episode. Shows like Blossom and Hey Dude was really nostalgic looking back. David Lascher and Christine Taylor were great guest. The 90's was a great decade with great shows. I love your channel so much Mayim! ❤

You are right the 90,s were a great decade for shows
Hey Dude was my fav show and meant a lot to me at the time (born 1981). Not a TV watcher so i still say Hey Dude when people ask me my favorite TV show. 🤠😁
I used to watch Hey Dude every day! Lol! I loved Nickelodeon when I was a kid. (I'm just a year younger than Mayim Bialik.) Nostalgia...what an apt word!
I loved _Hey, Dude!_ _Salute Your Shorts,_ and _Pete & Pete_ when growing up in the 90's!
hey dude and salute your shorts were my jam back in the day....fifteen as well....and nick arcade, etc....christine looks as good as she ever has and actually looks like 10 years younger than david lol
Everyone wasn’t happy in the 90s. Maybe it depends on your age. I’m GenX and the 90s was Nirvana, Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails. There was A LOT of angst and (related to what was said in the podcast) it seemed like many were working out their issues around having grown up in the previous decade. But it also had an optimistic element as well, because breaking out of what felt like to some to be the confines of the 80s was hopeful.
I LOVE MAYIM! Watch every episode. When's the next Bevisode too? ❤
Comment for the cause. Love your continued work. Thank you.
Great episode…Loved Hey, Dude!
I loved "Hey Dude!'.
I loved loved loved both Blossom and Hey Dude this made me feel so old and nostalgic for those days when life was so much simpler Perhaps that’s because we were younger and while my childhood wasn’t great i had much less responsibility. I definitely understand the feeling of “better than the life we are living now” life was definitely less complicated not much internet and a basically simpler life. I also live the next town over from Allentown PA !! That’s so funny to me I didn’t grow up here. This was such a fun light episode.
I remember watching Hey Dude as a kid. I only watched Blossom about 2 years ago. I just put it together that David was in both. Explains why I kept thinking he looked familiar when I was watching Blossom. I’m all for the 90s nostalgia & would love more eps like this one

Love that definition❤❤❤❤ Blissfully ignorant is a good thing!! Memory Lane - aaah! Great episode! Thank you so much❤❤❤❤
Nostalgia is a window into the better parts of history.
I had things happen in the 90's that it was for me a lost decade essentially. Thanks for catching me up a bit! David, (if anyone) looks somewhat like a young Robert Downey Jr. Am I alone in this? anyone else see that? Beautiful that it brought you back together Christine! & once again David a wife, finding best friend for over 2 decades, awesome and warm fuzzies! Thank you Mayim for the intelligent & wise, warm and funny style of your relatedness to seemingly Everyone! :)
Hey Dude was one of my favorite shows as a kid!
Six Degrees action right here. 1) Had recently watched a movie with Will Friedle who wound up being a guest on the Lawrence Bros "Brotherly Love" podcast. 2) This led to me checking out more eps of their pod where they'd plug Blossom occassionally. 3) I'd never watched Blossom on NBC in the 90's and discover it's on Hulu and about to be taken off streaming this Thurs. 4) So I start binging Blossom to watch it all before Thurs and see David playing Vinnie. I said to myself, "Hey that's Ted from Hey Dude!" 5) Christine also had a very small bit part as a waitress on Blossom which really made me feel really nostalgic for Hey Dude. 6) Now I discover that MB herself has a podcast and she's discussing Hey Dude with both of them and also referencing Blossom. It's strange how things connect. 💯
So sorry not being able to watch this till Thursday. Just now I’m in Barcelona taking lunch with someone I think Mayim is friend from long ago: artist Rebecca Fox
I’m nostalgic for the 80’ & 90’s
David was exactly right about we had cable until I was ten then we moved and I didn't have cable again for 6 years and oh how I missed Nickelodeon with You Can't Do That on Television and Mr. Wizard's World, my personal faves that I remember scenes from to this day!
You forgot to mention the office! Very edgy comedy executed so well, which now is 18 years old ! Great episode ! I watched Hey , Dude and loved Nicklodean! I was 8 in 1990. I definitely loved that decade and im grateful for so mant great late 80s, and nineties memories . They are a part of who i am. Im still obsessed with 80s movies, music, you name it. ❤
Christine made a great point about how covid made her and her husband have to work on things, there were no more excuses. In a way, we should always take that with us and be thinking about why we are avoiding things. People usually say marriage is work and I kind of agree with that, but I don't think it tells the whole story. Marriage should be work that you want to do and is fulfilling when you do it.
This was a nice interview
Awe I loved this episode
The show Hey Dude was on from 1989-1991.
Great interview
Hey Dude was the first TV show I found myself as a 9 year old and felt like it was just for me. It was a big deal lol
This was a great episode, FLEW by 👏👏👏 I was also in LA in the mid to late 90s (Y2K memories LOL) - I passed Ben Stiller once at the Laemmle 5 theaters at Sunset & Crescent Heights once, as we were entering/exiting the elevator by Buzz Coffee. That's it, end of story LOL!
I have to admit I remember the show Hey Dude. I actually watched the show when it was on the air. This was a nostalgic breakdown
תודה רבה מיים. אני נהנה מאוד מהפודקאסט שלכם .
I was born in 1959 an I love Blossom
We didn't have a lot of channels in the early '90s like MTV, but we had Nickelodeon and I loved it as a kid at that time! I definitely enjoyed "Hey Dude."
Hi thank you so much for bringing mental health out into a wonderful morning light I was always told never tell anyone I’m 62 can we talk about this yet
I loved this! I DO wanna know the nitty gritty of David and Joey etc. What dating other celebrities was like back in the day! I wanna know the competitive inside scoop the pressure that makes it more real looking back!
As a kid of the 70's and early 80's and a teenager in the 80's, I have to say that I grew up, we had some of the best movies and music EVER. When Saturday Night Live debuted I was only 10 since I hadn't celebrated my 11th birthday yet. I grew up with the original cast members and only got to watch it later on when I was older. I was already an adult in the 90's so it was a little different for me, but I still loved the music and movies of the early and mid 90's. Now? Not so much.
For any Hey Dude fans, the ranch is still a working dude ranch and beautiful resort- Tanque Verde Ranch. It’s a really lovely place. I’ve stayed there several times for a photography conference.
Vinny! I loooved Blossom! I loooved Vinny! They were a great young couple!!
I loved this interview, and all of the shows these actors have been in. I think Mayim is a wonderful interviewer. I also I think it is important to think about a lot of causal or not so causal misogyny, homophobia, and racism of certain segments of 90s media when thinking about 90s nostalgia. I look back at some of the media (both entertainment and the news) I watched as a kid, and I'm surprised by how much I forgot about or didn't pay attention to. I'm thinking of media coverage of Monica Lewinsky, the O.J. trial, the lambasting of Sinead O'Connor after her SNL performance, figure skating in the early 1990s, etc. I get concerned about that element when I think about some of 90s nostalgia. While I love the decade, this keeps coming up for me as I try to make sense of things as an adult.
The Awesomeness Continues!! 😎👍👌✊👊🖖🍁
I loved the show Hey Dude!
who else remembers Pinwheel and Today's Special??..then You Can't Do That On Television confuuuuuuused the heckkaaa outta however old me was cause.... obviously, they COULD. I KNEW that one day I would be on Double Dare and really thought Salute Your Shorts was cringe like second hand embarrasment but i still watched it and can for some reason cue the theme song RIGHT NOW but idk what day it ever is. Pinwheel though. Silas. Digress. Thank yall

I loved "Pinwheel"! Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around 😊 And "Today's Special" was my favorite show as a kid. 1982 baby here. Whatever I was doing I had to stop and come inside to watch Jeff come to life and be with Jody, Muffy, the security guard... It was such a special show 🙂 "Today's Special, come and join the fun!"
Love this show and this episode reminds me of being in .North Carolina, chasing a boy, (I was from Long Island), hearing them rehearse Fiddler, and butchering the word bagel: “buy-aye-gull”. Some things don’t translate!
I loved Hey Dude!
I live in the 90’s!! Everything from my clothes to the music I listen to. It was just such a better time! I just know I’d be a lot happier in a time like that compared to where we are now in the world.
loved it
1st time I saw Christine and David was on Hey Dude.
Does anyone remember the commercial which featured a square-looking adult who seemed like an accountant sheepishly admitting he loved Frosted Flakes? Well, my wife and I were parents of Nickelodeon-aged kids and we ALL loved Hey Dude!! The stories were so silly and fun. It was great seeing Ms. Taylor and Mr. Lascher back together talking about how this low-budget sleeper of a show turned out to have a huge avid following. They must have had amazing writers, because it all just seemed like a half hour of genius improv around each character's foibles and some odd situation dropped into their laps. There were a LOT of great moments and memorable lines. Our oldest son had the worst crush on Brad, but they never explained why the other main girl on the show besides Melody grew up with a boy's name, or why they gave her Ms. Taylor's last name. My favorite Brad line, from when everybody thought some mysterious looking guy on their ranch might be a wanted gangster: "The ONLY police who're looking for THAT guy are the FASHION police!"
Haha, I was like Lascher...how do I know that and then it hit me...Chelsea and Jax. Wow
I always wanted to work at the ranch and have a cool boss like Mr. Ernst. Omg did this give me high hopes for the working world 😂
Love christine in hey dude the 90,s were a great time for children
I loved Hey Dude!!!!
I loved hey dude
Hey Dude!
David forgot to talk about his role of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Christine forgot to talk about her roll on season 4 of Hannah Montana.
Fun!
It's time for the next Norman Lear to surface with the next All in the Family.
