David Is ACTUALLY The Best Disney Dude

Ойын-сауық

Last year, I made a video about how I considered Flynn Rider as the best Disney dude. And whilst a lot of people agreed with me, others continued to suggest that David from Lilo and Stitch is better so I decided to see whether that was true. And boy, were they right. Flynn's my boy, but David is such a chad and should be acknowledged as such. Enjoy.

I recently rewatched Lilo and Stitch, and I was shocked how many hints there were that David and Nani have a mutual reciprocation of feelings, but can't act on them because Nani's situation with Lilo is far more important. David takes it all without fuss or complaint, just playfully bringing it up to Nani every now and then, but he fully respects her boundaries and doesn't push. Hell, he even helps her with finding a job. He's a very selfless guy who just wants what's best for Nani and Lilo.

AND he doesn't do "nice guy schemes", he's ask nani out straight up, and she doesn't say "no", she says "not now". The vibe is: everyone knows what the emotional situation is, probably discussed in a past convo, and he just helps, supports and befriends her without expecting anything for real, just bring it up every now and then, to ASK if it would be a good time to give it a try. If she told her "no, quit asking" I feel he would take the L, move on, and still hang around and be chill about it. Top Himbo.

The writers were making the script, and some producer's 17 year old surfer nephew came in to borrow money, and said "Hey, what if you just, like, make the side character boy who likes Nani the most caring, genuine, supportive man on the planet, but in a way that couldn't impact the overall story?" And then that nephew immediately got hired. David has 0 impact on the story. He doesn't have the money, connections, intelligence, or skills to 'fix' a single one of Nani or Lilo's very real problems in the movie or show. Everything he ever does could be done by any other character already present, and still work. He is not 'necessary' to the story. And I think that makes him all the more perfectly wholesome. He doesn't have to be there. He doesn't have to be in danger. He doesn't have to try this hard to follow a crush. But he does. David doesn't have to. But he chooses to. THAT is his impact on the story. A man can simply choose to do good, choose to be a positive role model. That is all.

@@silverpact1008 This is a huge lesson that can be learned from the film. As a man, you don't have to be the guy who sweeps a woman off her feet and solves all of her problems. There are many problems that you can't solve for someone else. But you can be a kind, caring, supportive individual and in doing so you will actually help them because their mental state will not be as fragile and they will have more fortitude to be able to tackle the issues they need to fix. David *is* a big help to Nani just by being there. Nani knows that no matter what there is a person who cares for her and her sister and will go out of his way to help them and cheer them up however he can. This also applies to prettymuch any kind of relationship be it romantic, family or just friends.

I think she even used an experiment to change David to Nani‘s liking. And what happened? At the end, it was David who basically told Lilo: „we can’t force her to love me. Sure, i would be happy if we would become more, but it wouldn’t feel right if she didn’t do it out her own heart“. Yeah, David‘s *THE* guy

David is the definition of a "nice guy"...but, he's an ACTUAL nice guy. I like him a lot. He was supportive and kind, and gave Nani space when she needed it instead of constantly bombarding her with his feelings of unrequited love (...looking at you, Cat Noir). I think he's a great character whose only real flaw, narratively, was that he was a little boring. In REAL LIFE, he's marriage material, let's be clear!! But, in a fictional story with aliens, family loss, and supernatural adventure, not standing out makes you a little forgettable. And just to be clear...again...stories NEED those basic characters to normalize their world. If the world is full of crazies, then crazy is normal. You need that one grounded person to stand in contrast to everyone else to amplify their dynamic and THEIR story, as the story that's being told is about them. So, all around, he's a great character that serves a narrative purpose and plays his role absolutely perfectly. Well done. ❤

Rolls with the punches/waves, almost always like a steady rock that helps to support people and just a generally nice guy. This might be a bit of a stretch, but I kindof lump him into the sale type of people as the body improvement club in Mob Psycho 100 if anyone is fammilliar, at least in how they act and support people with absolutely no personal benefit from it just based on kindness.

Lol that’s just you, David is an actual nice guy not some loser wanting to get something in return for being genuine. David is the type to be patient and get the girl without pushing his personal agenda. Nani has to work and raise her baby sister otherwise she will be taken away she is not rejecting him she’s just too occupied.

Someone that has been rejected and sidelined multiple times just, out of the goodness and selfessness of their own heart are going to take on massive difficulties and responsibilities? Do you actually hear what you're trying to sell us on? David is a bad example for both boys and girls. For boys it's reinforcing that disrepectful image of the persistent man willing to wear down a disinterested woman's resistance to his advances + centering women at the expense of your own life. For girls its showing them that its okay to disrespect their clearly stated disinterest, and creates a wild expectation that a good man is a servile, frictionless potato that rolls over for her. 8:21 “Does this have the same life-changing impact….” YES He SAVED THEIR LIVES. He helped REBUILD THEIR HOME. There is no Lilo to fight for if she is drowned in the ocean. There is no way that CPS is not going to involve themselves if Lilo has no roof over her head (i.e. the primary conflict for the human characters in the film). Stitch has to have his learning experience which drives the narrative, but the external pressure of the real world is very much something that these characters are going to interact with. David does what men are great at doing: providing solutions, especially in the form of rubber-on-the-road action. That is why he is such a great example of masculinity, and such an attractive character in general.

I know DAMN WELL none of the other Disney dudes would try to help me file my taxes, or cover my shift at work, or any of that real life adult stuff. David is the ONLY Disney dude where it’s like “ah, we could have a future together!” Look me in the face and tell me that years into their marriages, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty weren’t feeling a little insecure since their men tended to fall in love at first sight. David is a great guy, but honestly. No one is beating Thomas O'malley. He wasn't turned off by the fact the hottie he was trying to rizz up had three kids. Instead, he doubled down! Saving Duchess and her kittens several times through out the whole movie! Finding the family a way home, Finding the kids something to eat, Keeping the family together. Near total strangers and he leapt off a railroad bridge into long drop to save a kitten from drowning in a river. He helped guide and support them for miles and miles. And what did he expect out of it? The ability to shoot his shot, even offering to be the father the kids clearly want and need, when Duchess says her life with Madam is more important, he respects that guides them home and calls it there! Only to snap back up quicker than a whip to melee with a human ten times his size for Duchess and the Kitten when informed they were in trouble again! Put some respect on Thomas O'malley's name!

The part that struck me the most about David and that made me like him so much as Disney character was that every time he was needed, he was there and, as many have said before, expecting nothing in return. I don't think that this can be emphasized enough. David doesn't expect anything from either Nani or Lilo and he'd be perfectly happy to be "just friends" if that's what Nani wanted. And in a medium, where exploitative and abusive relationships are reframed as being desirable, I think David is the kind of character who has a much bigger impact on the audience than the actual story he is a part of.

Though I can see where people are coming from when they say he's been reduced to a side character because...he unfortunately was. Cassandra is the character that shares "main character" status with Rapunzel, and Eugene/Flynn was more or less a side character. Which is a shame because they introduced so many interesting tid bits about his past as a world-renowned thief and his association with the Baron and Weasel, who are the animated series equivalent of the mafia. Plus... Eugene's unique association with the dark kingdom (spoilers). They graze the surface on these narrative important aspects of Eugene's character, but either didn't go too in depth in it or outright squelched them before they could be explored in any meaningful way. Which is such a shame!

I think that alone sets David as a cut above the rest, the few others I can think of are the disney direct to dvd sequels where they usually leave them in the background but they have a weaker film presence in general.

The assassination of Flynn's character in the Rapunzel series is a lare part of the reason I didn't watch the show.

David is what I call a "Domestic Champion". He's not some hero going above and beyond to slay some great evil. But a genuine, grounded depiction of exactly the kind of guy I think everyone could benefit from having as a friend. The kind who shines best in the humble struggles.

Jumba Is mostly a Genius but a bit reckless with his inventions and inconsiderate at times. David isn't always super bright, but he has a kind and considerate personality despite also being reckless at times case in point ''the flame juggling''. They aren't a couple, but they are the frame of the series that make everything possible and balance each other's personalities in a non-personal way. Do to them not having a super personal relationship and both being flawed individuals ''that aren't jumping on each other's back'' it leaves room for a lot of things to go wrong so plots can be built off of their unique traits. Every show needs little side plots to balance out the tension.

Aww you called him stupid, but he's got REALLY high emotional intelligence. He sees when shit is up and defuses situations like a boss, bows out when he needs to, and takes crazy shit in stride. David = #1 homeboy

Eli 'Big Daddy' LaBouff is my choice. He's not the traditional Disney guy but he wants the best for everyone in his community. He loves his daughter and Tiana and her family. I feel like if Tiana were just to ask him to invest in her ideas he would at the drop of a hat as he loves her like a daughter.
