I remember watching this at the time and just being freaking stunned ! It was truly AMAZING and FEARLESS ! My opinion one of the most legendary moments of my 66 years of watching television !!!!!!!! David Cook is badass and should have taken the title that year for this alone .

I remember watching at the time and listening to the judges repeat how brilliant it was because he made the song his own by arranging it in a new way. Pretty sure Chris Cornell was as pissed off as me.

This is the best song sung by an Idol EVER! It's really good! Thanks to Michael Jackson, Cris Cornell, and especially David Cook!!

Seriously think David killed nearly every song he covered on that show!! Amazing voice, amazing stage presence! 3 years later and I still get goosebumps at every single one! Best artist to come from a talent show!

Wish this was on spotify, my all time idol performance. Its 2020 and i still love this song, the feelings in his voice!

This NEVER gets old! David Cook is the VOICE!!

2021 and still chills throughout the whole song. Chris Cornell did an amazing job on the arrangement, but David really hit it home with his vocals, damn! Of course, the biggest props still go to MJJ for the original song. A great song can bring so much joy in so many ways!

Love David's voice on this song. He sounds like he is really feeling the emotions. Best Idol ever.

Wow!!! David Cook is the real deal -- what a beautiful arrangement and performance. And what a great choice by Davis and White for their ice dance performance. Chills.

Almost 10 years and I still remember this performance as one of my favorites of all time from AI... I love David Cook!

I have to admit, David Cook singing this song moves me in ways I haven't felt in a long time. I always listen to this version when I am in KZread. His voice is the best in this century. Thank you David. Keep rockin'

I can't believe his voice kept up with Cornell's version. Ubelieveable. Cook earned my respect forever after I watched him sing this.

My version of this purchased from Itunes was stolen on my external drive, and it is no longer available from Itunes. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was afraid I would NEVER hear it again. It is fabulous with the video clips. YOU ROCK!!

The swelling beats of the orchestra play beautifully into David's anguished vocals. A completely different vibe than MJ's version, and really brought out the storyline for me.

This is by far my favorite version of the song. I like all three, but this version has so much emotion put into it. It sounds 100% genuine in the way his voice is. I'm very impressed

No matter how often I hear this performance, it just thrills me. I found my idol when we made sure David Cook won AI! I hope he has a song of this caliber on his second album coming out some time in early 2011. He is just spectacular.

I just love his amazing voice. There is a reason this version sang by Cook was used on the Olympics ice skating competition. Regardless of some of the negative oopinions here, most people love this. We all have our favorites, don't we?

For those of you that don't follow David Cook that closely he did a wonderful rendition of this song at his Feb 2 concert in NYC at the Gramercy theatre laryngitis and all. Yahoo is streaming that concert for the next 24hrs in conjunction with Live Nation. Sooo good!!!

This was one of the best permormances on AI ever!!

I think slowing the song down and listening to the words slow like that just shows what a fabulous writer Michael Jackson was. The lyrics to this song were such poetry and slowing it down gives the opportunity to truly appreciate Michael's poetry. Of course dancing to the original version is awsome and Michael's version is awsome, but now I wish I could have heard Michael sing it this way. Oh it makes my heart throb just thinking of Michael singing it slow like that.It would have been moving.
