    Royal Albert Hall, 1985, I was there, it was incredible. Also saw him Brighton a few days before where David was an arm's length away from me singing, utterly incredible. We waited at back door til early hours, there were just 6 of us out there. Gave up in the end, we went and got chips and as we left Brighton, waiting at traffic light, David was in the car next to us, a huge bouncer either side of him!! Happy memories of when we were all young.

    I was at the Edinburgh Playhouse on that 1985 tour, 2nd row. Then Las Vegas in 2000 to see his show with Sheena Easton, he mingled through the audience and stood singing at the next table to mine, 3 more shows in the U.K. in the 2000s. What an unmistakable voice. ❤️.

    @@SM_6861 The death of his mother was hard on him emotionally. He started drinking heavily which he denied until the end. If he wouldve taken better care of himself he would probably still be here today. Depression can be a silent killer .

    It all snowballed on him, his moms dementia and death, a longtime unhappy marriage and bitter divorce, the alienation from his son, the Sony lawsuit, on top of the abandonment from his father and his fear of getting dementia himself it was just to much for him to handle with severe lifelong addiction issues. We were lucky to have him as long as we did. 💔

    It's a shame how under appreciated he was, for the talent he had, and the person he was, my heart breaks for the way he passed away. The drinking, the dementia. all of it. I wish he would have found happiness and peace within himself, and he would have looked in the mirror, and see what we saw in him. Not only his looks, but the talent, and happiness he brought others, I still watch The Partridge Family now, just to feel those care free times again, wish I had kept those posters I had of him in my room. RIP David, and I hope you are with your mother and father, and finally found peace with your father.

    great video..The 80s , such a hard time for DC , even tragic, he felt being a failure.but of course he was smiling all the time, he used his best actor's skills at those interviews . He was fighting..only 1 album, such a waste of his fantastic voice..Good we have '"Romance" , its not everyone's fav but I love this album , "Last Kiss" , "Heart of Emotion" , "Thin Ice".great songs sometimes made me cry....And Royal Albert Hall, just sensational , he was soo happy to sing again..I listen to CD from this concert everyday while driving. Thank you.

    What happened with this album was, it was never released in the US because DC wouldn’t turn over total control to Clive Davis. Clive Davis blackballed the album from ever being released in the US. They just tried to suffocate DC at every turn in the US. That’s also why not as many people like this album, we didn’t know about it. ☹️

  • @ElectrocutionorShark

    @ElectrocutionorShark

    @@SM_6861 Why would they do that to David? I mean try to suffocate him. Apart from Clive Davis. I'm struggling to understand the reasoning.

  • @SM_6861

    @SM_6861

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ElectrocutionorShark the reason for why they did this goes back to the 70’s. Clive Davis is like the Godfather of the music industry so you can’t leave him out of this. The US music industry never respected DC cuz of his overnight success through PF. They try to tamp down that mania to control him. He fought them and wouldn’t conform to their rules. When he walked away from all of it in ‘74 it was like a big FU to the music industry. DC also had a complete nervous breakdown after PF and really went through some really black years with alcohol and drugs that didn’t help all of this. When he recorded the Higher They Climb album RCA was still ran by the same people as Bell records all under the umbrella of Sony. DC refused to go out on tour to promote that album cuz he was afraid of the hysteria that would still be there. That album did pretty well in spite of that, particularly in the UK. I Write The Songs that was written by Bruce Johnston who was a producer on that album was a hit in the UK. DC was told by a US RCA exec probably Clive Davis that that song was to soft for the US market and they never released that song as a single. Clive Davis then took that song and gave it to Barry Manilow which gave him his signature song. So when DC wouldn’t wouldn’t turn over control his ‘85 Romance to Clive Davis, Clive Davis then blackballed the romance album from being released in the US. Bottomline the US never gave DC the respect that he deserved knowing the talent he really had cuz he wouldn’t conform.

    @@SM_6861 Wow! Thank you so much for explaining that so comprehensively. I get it NOW. I was having trouble putting the jigsaw together as I haven't got hold of a copy of David's books yet. I never imagined that the industry would take that attitude when David stopped touring. I see now that they had absolutely no concern for him. They were only concerned about their pockets. Shame on them.

    @@SM_6861 And what a dreadful, nasty act to have denied David a certain hit with 'I Write the Songs' in the US. I'm appalled. It's a hard path being a non-conformist but it is the path of the noble & brave.

    I often wondered if he hated pop music so much, why didn’t he do something else?? Lots of people have moved on and changed.

    His later albums were not so much pop. The album in ‘90 was more rock. It was hard for him to get away from his PF fame completely cuz that’s how he became so famous. He was so much more talented than that. It was a double edge sword for him.

    I cannot fathom why, but he looks smaller, shorter as a blond. I know; nuts I'm totally nuts.

    Imo, the blonde hair did not suit him. Still was a brilliant actor/singer.

    Although he was still good looking with the blonde hair, he was way more striking with his dark hair. I felt like the blonde hair wash him out a bit.
