I'm restoring one of these to usable condition, sadly had to replace the original briggs and stratton 8b motor but I just had to say thank you for these videos, they are a life saver.

This is a great video to show what's going on when you engage the clutch lever. One question on your reassembly though... Instead of muckling that lever by hand to deal with overcoming the spring, why don't you just hook up the operator's lever up at the handles, and engage the declutch there. That's what it does.

I have a 1946 db i cant get the outer clutch plate off, i drilled out the bolt someone hammered in there, but its stuck, i have a 917-5756 code on my tractor. Do i have the same clutch as this one in the video?

kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqmtxaVte8KehLQ.html This is the tool i use to take outer plates off on a spring lock clutch. To answer your question yes your 917.5756 would be the same as this late model 917.5751 in this video except for the control rod is slightly different. Hope that helps.

You will have to rob it off of another machine most likely. I do not know of a modern source for the bearing in the spring lock clutch.

I am also looking for the arm, spring and all other parts. Mine has a bolt going through the clutch and a separate idler pulley for engagement. It kind of works but doesn't seem to fully disengage so going backwards is not easy when running.

What model number of tractor do you have? All of the reverse mechanisms worked the same but later tractors had slightly different components.

@@roydickerson3055 Your model of tractor is called a sears super 600. It is a later model 1964-67 range. HARD to find this model let alone spare parts! You can't buy any new parts anywhere for these tractors. Unless someone is parting out something on ebay. Your best bet would be to find one of these models of tractors somewhere. Via swap meet or internet ad. 917.575112 917.575121 917.575135 917.575142 917.575144 Then take the parts off to fix yours. Belt sizes are 3/8"x29" 5/8"x38" 5/8"x24"

Do you know if the other style clutch needs to have the die spring as well? Made a short video about what’s going on with my David-Bradley..(basically the clutch doesn’t stay engaged when you flip the lever) here’s the video to help explain: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGRmtcWgmtPPqso.html many thanks in advance!

Ya you have a ball lock clutch. It doesnt use any springs. To adjust it you have to loosen the hex set screw and turn the threaded adjuster in. Then make sure you tighten the set screw back down on one of the flats of the threaded adjuster or you will damage the threads.

Mr. Snavely first of all I want to say thanks for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it! There is lots of good content on your channel!! Anyway I have gone through the entire clutch, I even had the ball bearings out of the ball lock style clutch.. I know exactly what your talking about (when you say set screws and threaded adjustment plate)... the clutch is adjusted pretty good.. when I engage the clutch does NOT slip, as long as I am holding the lever forward.. so this issues isn’t really the clutch per say.. it’s actually the ball lock that’s not keeping it locked.. I’ll be making another video here to help explain the situation further.. (I’ll drop the video in this comment thread, when it’s published)

Mr. Snavely ok so I did try to adjust the clutch, I think there is a lot more messing around that I could do with the adjustment spring ad the pressure plate with set screws.. here is my part 2 video.. I think there is another totally different issue all together: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoZ_p9uxfai6qKg.html
