Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This " How To" Video was done in answer to all the emails I get about DB Clutch Problems. Here is a Close up of the Removal, Installation, Adjustment & Various Parts. of the Ball Lock Double Plate Friction Clutch used in the 1951 DB Super Power & Most Other Walk Behind DB's
NOTE: I Know that Some Earlier & Later DB Clutch Parts are Slightly Different in Design, Function & Assembly Hardware but this procedure should make things clear for most everyone.
Hope this will answer all your questions and get your DB Rollin' Again.
Feel free to contact me with questions or if you need any additional DB Info. Allways Glad to help.

I changed the clutch to a heavy duty centrifugal v-belt clutch with a ribbed belt. Works great.

What or how much does the clutch disk cost? That would be great for go-carts or minibikes as well. I realize they were made like 60 plus years ago "but" does anyone make the whole clutch , pulley , and all today? Besides the 2 mentioned carts I can think of all sorts of uses for this kinda clutch in machinery building.

Are there anywhere instructions on how to make adjustment on a slipping clutch or do you just have to replace the discs? Also where is it possible to get new clutch discs?

Witch way does the outer red part unscrew? I am having a bear of a time getting it off. Had to drill out the weird bolt someone hammered in there. Any help would be cool!

First off, you Must make sure there are no set screws holding it in place. Some had 1, some had 2, some just had a Pit or bolt through it. It unsrews counterclockwise, Jam a Crowbar or other tool behind it keep the Shaft from moving if necesary Soak it it WD40, Tap it hard with a RUBBER mallet to Shock the threads loose and then use a Pipe Wrench on the outer part with a cheater bar on the handle. they are always Very hard to get off. Good Luck.

Dan, great video. Are clutch facings available? Can a guy fabricate his own? I read once about someone using flooring tile, he used the old one as a template and cut new ones, think that would work? Is a good source for parts on the net? Thanks!

Dan, I have an option to buy two DB's (do not have model#'s yet). One has the sickle mower but is missing the pulley on the sickle. How hard is it to find sickle pullies? To be honest, I was just looking for any walk behind sickle mower but after watching your videos, I am sold on DB's :) Thanks Dick

It's good to help with a video, but remember, there are at least 3 styles of clutches. The first style doesn't have the tits on the pulley for the clutch disk, is spring loaded instead of ball lock, and does not have the threaded adjustment (doesn't need it) As to the 2 set screws, NO, never put 2 in as ONE will always go in on a threaded area!! The set screws are 90 degrees apart, the flats are 60 degrees apart- no way to use 2 without damaging some threads. The reason for 2 places for the set screw is to allow for finer adjustment which is required for the ball lock style clutch. Then there is the "reverse ready" pulley, but would be about the same as your video, except a pipe wrench probably won't fit the pulley, and finally the latest ball lock which uses only one disk and it is rivited to the large pulley. The man who has sold new disks lives in Houston, but I can't think of his name. Sam something maybe. Haven't seen his ad for some time. Look here for Sam's information: www.mypeoplepc.com/members/shawsplace/reproductiondavidbradleyparts/id7.html dbsleder@yahoo.com

@ddssdickday Thanks, I have Heard of guys attempting to fabricate their own, they may work in a pinch but they Do NOT hold up, especially in Cold Weather. Check out the links on the Yahoo DB sites, there is a guy in texas that makes Clutch Facings. Cost about $45 to $50
