Bowie's real wife was Iman, the super model. With Bowie vids, I never try to understand them, just experience them. Oh, and I love this song!!!

Check out Bowie in his 90's band Tin Machine. Under The God, Crack City and Tin Machine.. Actress Tilda Swinton plays his wife in The Stars Are Out Tonight video.

This song is nicely framed with the knowledge that The Next Day (the album this is from) was Bowie's first album in 10 years, and was worked on in secret. People assumed Bowie would never release another album after he retired (he had a heart attack on stage).

This is one of my absolute favourite music videos of Bowie's .It's a roll reversal. The stars stalking normal everyday ppl instead of the other way around .Not that there's anything average about Bowie, lol, but u get the drift.

I like this but prefer Bowie's forays into soul or funk: Try cuts from Bowie's Young Americans album with Luther Vandross back-up singers and David Sanborn on killer alto saxophone, like Somebody Up There Likes Me, Win, Fascination, Right and Can You Hear Me. [Luther and David both on Dick Cavett talk-show video...and Bowie did Soul Train video] ...Also Carlos Alomar funk on Secret Life of Arabia (Heroes album). … Sample his Let’s Dance album produced by Chic’s Nile Rogers (and it’s all good!). From Station to Station album: Stay. Also Black Tie, White Noise with Al B. Sure.…Tonight with Tina Turner (also with him in one of her concert videos)... Knock on Wood (David Live, 1975). “1984” (from Diamond Dogs album. Sounds like “Shaft.” Recorded by Bowie, later by Tina Turner) A friend of the the Black community - complained to MTV about Black videos being relegated to early morning. Married to Somali super-model Iman.

The music and the vocals present a sense of menace, anxiety and desperation throughout. Thinking it may be about celebrities/stars being vampire-like, feeding ordinary folk glamourous images, and being dependent upon our adulation for their continued existence whether they are still physically alive or not ...

The video plays with gender a lot. Bowies younger self from the mid 70’s is played by a woman, of the two characters spying on him and his wife the blond is a transgender woman, who I believe has fully transitioned. The dark haired character is a female model who also models menswear for several designers. Tilda Swinton who plays Bowies wife is an actress who was the lead in the movie Orlando, based on the Virginia Wolf novel, where she plays the part of a man who wakes up one day transformed into a woman.

Yes, yes and yes. Juxtaposition of his current marital bliss with supermodel Iman. He retired and they raised a daughter together away from the spotlight. Compared to his earlier wild life of sex, drugs and gender ambiguity..

Bowie died years ago mate. he doesn't have any recent songs. I don't know what the song means, so your interpretation might be correct, but bowie was very heavily into the occult. Lots of his songs have occult references. It's possible on first listen that he's referring to our astrological stars of fate. The fact that the stars seem foreboding in this song makes me think so.

I think the point he's trying to make is that COVERAGE of the stars is 24/7 and that they are ALWAYS being observed. The stories about them can cascade out of your media hole at any time and they have absolutely no privacy. Not only that, they have very little ability to redress the bullshit that is published about them. It must be maddening. Listen to "Fame"! He was never a big fan.
