About David Bowie:
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

I wish 'Hours' got the recognition it deserves. It's criminally underrated, and it hurts to see how it's usually placed so low on most of his album tier lists.

I was so excited for Hours. I was 17 and a senior in high school. I listened to the absolute crap out of it. Unfortunately around the same time it came out I had my first serious relationship, and of course I got my heart broken soon after. It was hard for me to listen to Hours after that. 20+ years later I can finally listen to it again. Hot damn do I miss Mr. Bowie. His music has been such a big part of my life. His death still hits me like a ton of bricks.

In retrospect, nobody with any sense fails to recognize that Bowie was always running decades ahead of his time. It's incredible to watch just that magic happening here in this minidoc. He had a remarkable talent for anticipating what'd be bleeding edge when other artists were locked into a particular era. There would be nothing out of place if you told me this was 2022. I'd even think BowieNet was a vaporwave throwback because it's as radically amazing an idea now as it was then, and certainly predated the much more disappointingly centralized digital revolution that would actually occur a decade later.

Back when this was released, I had read that Quantic Dream, the developers of the video game "Omikron: The Nomad Soul" (which featured voice acting by David Bowie, along with his likeness and that of Iman) had set up a meeting with David to obtain his permission to use some of his old music for the game. David Bowie allegedly said something to the effect of :"Why use old music? I'll write new music for the game." and the 'hours...' album was born. The song "New Angels of Promise" even had alternate lyrics for the game which substituted "Omikron" in place of "suspicious minds". Most of the other songs from the album (except for "Brilliant Adventure", I believe) could be enjoyed via virtual concerts at clubs throughout the game world.

There were three songs meant for inclusion which retains more of Reeves' dry, more metallic sound. Kind of agree when he says that Bowie shouldn't've went behind his back with Plati and remixed it. The demos you can find is why a lot of fans call it his "shoegaze album". Bit less delay, bit less compression, more spatial bliss.
