David Bowie NYC Glass Spiders Rehearsal 1987

Never seen before behind the scenes footage of Bowie rehearsing in NYC. We were there. Funny story is as we were wrapping up, Rich, who had come up with us, got to spend 20 minutes chatting with Bowie and his entourage . A cherished memory made all the more special after Bowie's passing.

I especially like that he sang Blue Jean which is one of my favorite Bowie songs. Now I'm sorry I missed this tour. 1. Never Let Me Down 0:00 2. Blue Jean 3:22 3. Time Will Crawl 7:50 4. Shining Star 13:24 This is actually an astonishing video. Thanks a ton for the post. These versions sound amazing and I bet if the Never Let Me Down album had sounded more like this the album would be much more appreciated. This version of Shining Star is particularly meaningful because Bowie never wound up playing it live on the Glass Spider tour. Very rare find! Unfortunately the version here has a few stops and starts but it also gives a glimpse of what this song could have been. I've always felt it should have been a hit.

That was so interesting. There must be tonnes of unreleased rehearsal material knocking around. Plus studio stuff. I've heard there is a vault with lots of stuff in. Bowie told an up and coming musician to never throw anything away as you never know when you will need it again. He had stuff he wrote and never released at the time only to revisit years later and rearrange it.

+Cecila Winn Practice every day. Never think you already know everything you need to know, because you don't, and you won't. Don't be the best musician in the circle of people you work with, because you won't learn anything. Get out and meet other musicians, and try to find the best, most talented people you can find to work with. Get out and perform; there is no substitute for experience. Meet club owners, producers, label owners, artists, and anyone and everyone else you can meet. Get a job working at a studio, or a club, or a theater, or a record label, or somewhere where you will intersect with talented, creative people. Don't be afraid to start at the bottom; what matters is that you start, and that you don't stop . You will never be the most talented musician; there will always be someone better than you, but it's those who meet people and put themselves out there that end up in "the right place at the right time." Be humble. Be grateful. Work hard.
