One of his greatest vocal performances of all time. Should have been a Bond theme.

Teez, you have no idea how many times I have suggested this song to KZread reactors (unsuccessfully, I might add). My fave Bowie song from this particular album! Thanks so much for this! 👍👍👍

BTW, I forgot to mention a bit of backstory here. This song was written about a talented vocalist named Claudia Lennear who Bowie had a dalliance with. She sang backup for many famous performers & also dated Mick Jagger for awhile. Jagger also wrote a hit song about her called "Brown Sugar," also worthy of you checking out if you haven't yet. Lots more Bowie to dive into, may I suggest a song called "Word on a Wing." 😁

@Raj am I fully believe if this song had been released as a single, it would have been a chart topper. Masterpiece indeed, but I never had any success getting any reactors to play it, so the best I hope for when I request it is that other people read the comments & check it out themselves. Teez does a nice job with variety.

Possibly the most beautiful hidden gem in all his catalogue... great vocal, the greatest closer any album could have... sadly never performed live...pianist Mike Garson shines all through Alladin Sane...

This song is about Claudia Lennear. She was one of many Ikettes over the years from The Ike and Tina Turner Revue. She had a brief solo career and also did backing vocals for others. The Rolling Stones song "Brown Sugar" was also about her. She definitely had an impact on these guys! ;)

He did these vocals in one take, believe it or not. 🥰 Aladdin Sane is a very special album. Each song on it reflects the place that it was written, and this one was written in London. Mike Garson played piano here, and the rest of the guys were The Spiders from Mars. I'm glad to see you getting into some of the more vocally abstract, brilliant tracks like this one. I have a feeling you'll love Wild Eyed Boy from Freecloud and When the Wind Blows. Absolutely extraordinary work. 💙

I was lucky enough to see Bowie in concert twice and both times ,mind blowingly good along with the brillant musician's who accompanied him.Gail Anne Dorsey who played base guitar with the band is not only stunning beautiful but so talented .One best voices of ever heard .They sang under pressure together on The reality tour and blew the roof off!

Hey Teez, thank you for reacting to this song. It’s refreshing to see reactions to album songs that aren’t really chart hits. Often these songs mean so much to people who have invested in the artist. On a technical note, are you supposed to pause the song at some point to avoid being cancelled by KZread? Not sure but everyone else seems to and wouldn’t like to see you blocked by them. All the best from Wales UK.

Music just does not get much better than this. This was the first (or second) album I ever bought as a kid and i STILL listen regularly. fantastic album. the whole album should be reacted to. actually, at a minimum Bowies entire 70's catalog should be listened to. as for this song...of course the Piano (Mike Garson) is fantastic (as it is throughout the entire album) and I'd say this is one of Bowies best vocal performances ever, but i think the unsung hero of this song is Trevor Bolder....the way his bass floats in and out is gorgeous. Long live Bowie and the Spiders from mars!

Great call on Trevor Bolder. *Hugely* underrated player. His bass lines on Cracked Actor are also pretty epic. But everyone shines on this song, it's an absolute stunner.
