+Vlad II Dracul Blackstar? Blackstar was meant FOR his passing. Even the name, Blackstar, is a reference to a type of cancer lesion. The whole album has various references to his upcoming fate throughout - David Bowie knew for eleven months that he was going to die, he prepared himself for it and turned his death into a work of art.

+ProfessorRaskolnikov A blackstar is the remnants of a massive star that has collapsed because of its density. like a black hole in deep space. One of immense energy and gravity that even light cannot escape. Appropriate for a unique genius like Bowie. He could never be completely figured out and he left us with that unfathomable sliver of mystery and awe. Deep love and gratitude... and Godspeed, Starman.

TruthBeTold121212 I think you just described a black hole, and all black holes are in deep space, by the way. I've never heard anyone call them a 'blackstar', though, although I don't doubt the reference to the cancer might have doubled as a reference to a sort of science-fiction black star as shown in the Blackstar music video.

Talk about a guy who had EVERY right to be pretentious and aloof, but rather was a down to earth bloke always ready to laugh at himself. Seems like the kind of guy you could have 3-4 beers with at a local and never stop laughing... and he was the guy the made the best music of the last 50 years. Insane. There are artists that haven't contributed 1% as much as he did that act like they are the second coming of Christ, but Bowie, who had at least 7 different incarnations EACH worthy on their individual merit of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just seemed like an old friend ready to share a laugh. A big part of his legacy to me will always be his humor and personality. Thank god we live in a post KZread world where we all can relive these moments whenever we start to miss him. Thanks for the life changing music, and thanks for the goofy smile currently plastered on me face. We all miss you man.

Lauri go rangers I've since found and watched more funny Bowie moments on KZread, and it is just amazing how charismatic and funny he was. I know a lot of it has to do with British culture in general, being able to laugh at yourself and staying in touch with the everyman, but he really shined so bright in that respect. With that idea of Britishness in mind, just think of how SERIOUSLY some American artists take themselves! Your brain won't even let you imagine Bob Dylan being as light and fun as Bowie was. Or just think how one dementialy arrogant and humorless most rappers are, and they don't possess half of 1% of Bowie's talent. One glaring exception is seems to me was Jimi Hendrix. If you ever watch his interview with Dick Cavett, you'll see just how humble and funny he was. I'm sure if he was still with us he would be just like how Bowie was.

Lauri go rangers Totally! Great point! Can you think of any other musical artists who carried themselves in such a manner? I've seen some stuff with Elton John and Paul Mccartney that really made me laugh, but I'd love to hear who else you think was like that. :)

+Tom These videos are wonderful ... giving us a glimpse into David Bowie's personality beyond his music. This is just so amazing; he is so charismatic. You know ... David's charm, wit, humor, humility, and warmth is a lot like that of Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin (anyone who has seen Robert's interviews would agree). Can you imagine these two in the same room together? What a laugh riot that must have been. ~sigh~ Yeah ... but I wish we still had David, the way we (very thankfully) still have Robert.

My hubby - an admirer of Bowie himself - played the song "Heroes" the other night. And I felt an instant sadness... AGAIN...about the fact that he's gone. And I asked him "When, WHEN will it stop hurting me to the core that he's dead? " Since I was a kid he was so inspirational and important to me. It was and still is like I've lost something very special... a symbol, a gem, something basic like a color that is gone forever now. David, I've never known you personally, but you were and still are a very important person in my life! I'll love and miss you forever.
