He had him spread the deck so he can locate the 3 of diamonds. If she points at something else the trick will continue and David will perform series of tricks that will make it look like the 3 of diamonds was picked randomly. He is so good he can make up card tricks to get his desired results. In short he has a plan B if he messes up.

For all those types of tricks, the magician already knows what card he wants the person to pick. Even if they're face down. Also, for this trick, you can see some suggestioning for the person to stop at the right moment. First time he says "stop", second time he says it, the person is meant to subconsciously stop moving. Just rewatch the video and you'll see it

TheRussianGenius... Oh really? What trick would have involved the 3 of diamonds written upside down? Or do you spot another combination in those symbols. Pray tell. I don't believe David switches tricks mid way thru. That would infuriate him. He would not do a trick that he needs to switch half way thru just in case. He would just choose to do a trick he WILL nail. It wasn't a risky force. The trick was making sure Michael didn't really shuffle the deck. Leaving the 3d relatively in the middle and allowing him to smoothly suggest that she is stopping and then to tell her to lower her finger.

But she slightly moved her finger after he said stop, creating a margin of error of at least 6 cards. So just another comment thread that has absolutely no understanding of how the trick was done.

He guided her for sure. He timed it when he would start saying she could stop so she would be close with her finger to the 3 of diamonds. Then when she stopped a second too early he questioned her decision and she then moved a bit further to the one card, 3 of diamonds. Also he made sure the spaces between cards were narrower around the 3 of diamonds making it the natural choice. It was easily definable.

most people pick from the middle...3 of diamonds is separated from the group (taken up more space). Even if she misses-Dave simply takes out a "group" of cards (4-5) including the 3 of D. Equivokes or PATEO to the 3 of D

Here's my explanation: He spaced out the 3 of diamonds so it was a likely pick and he kind of guided her in choosing it. However he might have had some sort of backup plan in case she stopped somewhere besides the 3 of diamonds. I would literally pay hundreds of dollars to figure out some of his other, more impressive tricks.
