DAVE TATES 3 EXERCISES YOU AREN'T DOING BUT SHOULD BE! (Powerlifters and strength athletes)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey guys in this video I asked Dave Tate what are 3 exercises that strength athletes and powerlifters aren't doing enough that they should be doing... I expected some of the exercises but some definitely caught me by surprise. One that definitely caught me off guard was how quickly he said hanging leg raises. They totally humbled me and were something I haven't done in a long time! They are a great core exercise, and really work the abs, and anterior chain. I felt myself shaking like crazy! The other 2 were squat to stand or box squats, and lastly the skullcrusher and it's variations. The box squat was great for how/why he explained how to do box squats and their purpose outside of the gym. I've always been a fan of tricep work for locking out any presses, and juji also has a tricep specific workout coming out on his channel. I hope you enjoyed this video and make sure to add these exercises into your training is you are into powerlifting, strongman, or just wanting to get stronger in general. Dave Tate and elitefts know their stuff and it was an honor for me to get trained there.

    I'm about to buy a pair of those straps to do leg raises with.. I'm 6'3 and I find doing leg raises from a hanging position is damn near impossible and It makes it extremely difficult to actually engage my abs without focusing on my grip/shoulders. Now knowing about the decompression aspect (Didn't think about it at all) I'm definitely adding this to my routine, Good vid bro !

  • @mastodon24
    @mastodon242 жыл бұрын

    [Skull Crushers] I typically write them off; I already achieve that arm angle (relative to my torso) in a Closegrip bench. And it’s more specific, can be loaded heavier, use bands, etc. You get shoulder extension in a dip, so the benefit of an overhead-behind the head-variation is shoulder Flexion. Closegrip bench, dips, and overhead extensions gives you work at three distinct shoulder angles. And it’s great training economy; two compound-supplemental movements and one single-joint accessory movement.

  • @GUIC3DUP
    @GUIC3DUP2 жыл бұрын

    I think the difference for the Tricep Extension/Skullcrushers is that when you bring your elbows up further, and the bar back behind/above your head, it puts the long head of the tricep into the fully extended position on the stretch. I don't like the feeling as much, sure, but it's a different thing biomechanically that provides different advantages.

    Cavalier says to do the skull crushers with the arms at a 45 degree angle back to always keep the tension on the triceps, and it does, but damn, does it put stress on the inside of the elbow. looking forward to trying some off these variations. Maybe just throw in some behind the back cable pulls to get the stretch on the triceps long head.

    According to Doug Brignole, the hanging leg raise is not an ab exercise because the abs don't flex the hips. They only flex, laterally flex and rotate the torso. Leg raises only work the hip flexors.

    The two guys are great at the start but as soon as dave opens his mouth they are lost😂 nothing to be ashamed of. Dave is right up there with the smartest in the industry and HD learned the hard way.
