If Dave Ramsey had said "leave $300 or $400 AND a gospel tract or some other form of the gospel" that would have been one thing. But for him to BLATANTLY contrast giving a tract vs money is 100% heretical and false. There is no scriptural backing for his statement

There's a reason Ramsey spit the word "tract" out. Knowing this reason is better than _assuming_ he thinks they are "something vile," and imply the abundance of Ramsey's heart. I waited tables several years during & after college. I came to despise Sundays after church & the rude, picky, low or no-tipping Christians. The worst customers by far. I hated the tracts left on my table with little, or no, tip. That's one example. There are many more. I don't despise tracts, yet I get why some may in certain circumstances.

@@WHATSUP7049, well, here's what Dave said in that section, and I think you are taking him out of context: The fifth one: Be outrageously generous. Did you know you can give money away if you have some? Did you know that people who feed poor people people who feed starving kids are people who have money? That's where it came from it came from…people who did the stuff I was talking about. They're not evil. They're not horrible. They're not corrupt. They didn't steal. They didn't cheat. They serve the community in scale and consequently have the ability to serve the community in scale. Generosity comes from having planted corn so now I got some to share with my brothers and sisters and it's the most fun you'll ever have with money-outrageous, crazy, generosity! You got to do it. You got to do it y'all. It's…it's unbelievable what will happen. It'll turn everything loose in your life. Your creativity will go up. Your passion will go up. Your health will change when you start letting money flow through you, instead of to you. It changes everything in your life, but it is a mathematical requirement that for money to flow through you, you have to get it to you. You got to pay the light bill first. Feed your kids because if you don't take care of your own household first, you're worse than an unbeliever. Are we following scripture here? You're not selfish. You're just broke. We've got to work on not being broke. I've been there and it's scary as crud I don't want to live like that. So we tithe. As evangelical Christians, we always tithe. It means give a tenth of our income to our local church. That's your baseline, but I want you to do some other stuff beyond that, that just is mind-blowing, just for fun. I want you to just carry some money around. Here's one for you: Let's do this and he told me to be done in about 45 minutes because that's when the holy spirit leaves so um, um and I don't want to be up here by myself so um… Thanksgiving, Easter's quicker when you get the family together and you're picking up the kids and maybe you're going down the road or two states over to go see grandma. I don't know if you're going across town or whatever we're going to grandma's house and grandma's going to make a feast y'all know what I'm talking about. Maybe not but maybe you can see the type of picture this is. This is what happens to us and so what I want you to do is I want you to load the kids up. I want you to leave 20 minutes early and I want you on the way to get off at an exit and find yourself like a Waffle House. Y'all know what Waffle House is and pull up right in front of the glass and leave the car running and tell the kids put down your screens watch God behave and I want you to go in have a cup of coffee at the front counter. At the lunch counter…y'all know what I'm talking about…your lunch account and this is thanksgiving weekend this is easter weekend you know who's working at the counter on at a Waffle House? Somebody needs a job, you know who's working at the counter at a Waffle House on easter weekend somebody needs a job bad! So I want you to have a cup of coffee. Order a cup of coffee, you probably not even gonna drink it, and before you leave, I want you to have about three or four of these Uncle Benjamin's…hundreds…slip them under the coffee cup and slip out to the car. “Hey kids! Watch God! Watch him! Here's what she'll do: she'll walk along and pick it up and her eyes…She's looking around like it's a trick because it's been so long since anything good has happened to her and God just showed up! You just changed her net worth! 100 percent of time…and even if she's not been in church in her life or even if she was there last week a hundred percent of the time…she knows to say thank you because she can smell the aroma of the Holy Spirit that you left dripping there. You didn't leave a tract she lost. You left three, 400 bucks. I want you to go out and spend three or four hundred bucks on a date night on yourself. I want you to do that too. I want you to have fun with money but I dare you to have more fun than that.

Just leaving vast amounts of money on a table doesn’t bring people to God. Im sure they are very happy but ONLY the gospel has the power to save. What Dave said is ridiculous. the fact that you cannot see that is very scary for you. Where in the Bible does it ever say that the Holy Spirit is dripping on money, well I will tell you nowhere. @@WHATSUP7049, I'll agree that Dave saying, "she can smell the aroma of the Holy Spirit that you left dripping there," is really weird, but you are applying a double standard and your exegesis skills are greatly lacking. Most of the stuff you say isn't in scripture. That doesn't mean it isn't true, but it isn't in scripture. But you take issue with Dave Ramsey saying something that isn't in scripture. Beyond that, instead of figuring out what Dave was trying to get across, you are picking out certain statements and taking issue with them. Which is why I took the time to pull the transcript from KZread. I also suspected some things about Ramsey and his theology. He routinely uses the verse about co-signing for a friend to go into debt as a proof text for not having any debt whatsoever. There are actually good forms of debt that can be beneficial for people--who might need money to get a business started, or to purchase an investment property etc. All those forms of debt are cashflow positive debts (assuming it was a wise investment) yet Dave lumps this type of debt into that verse.

His voice echoed that clearly when he said " track" ( of course it's " tract" not " track". Makes me doubt if he ever gave out one even once). I noticed that immediately, and I'm glad you were faithful to point that out. It was particularly annoying to me,because I've distributed gospel tracts my whole Christian life, ( over 47 years now) .I, do highly recommend, however, that you place a generous tip inside the tract! Otherwise the response will often be something like this; " oh brother,he gave me thus stupid religious booklet instead of a tip",and it will be promptly discarded. Waitressing,is a hard ,difficult and thankless job,in many instances. Oftentimes the woman is doing that along one or two other jobs, just to make ends meet! Not to mention putting up with rude customers, something we've probably all witnessed when dining out. The issue with Dave is that he makes his financial advice into a form of legalism, often times claiming that his principals are commands from the Bible, when they aren’t. I’ve seen people be financially crippled because they are afraid to even have any credit score because they won’t take on any form of credit. Because of this, they have unstable housing situations, unstable employment, can’t save any money because they’re paycheck to paycheck. Instead of using the credit system responsibly to build wealth, they remain in poverty, then have had to use food stamps and rely on government healthcare.

To be honest I think a lot of the issue is not being able to accept what "poor" is anymore. Biblical poor were starving, dying of diseases, etc. My mother grew up poor, ratty house, government aid, etc. Yet I also realize what we call "poor" in the West is not truly poor. It's usually lacking luxury goods in any sort of amount. Even our so called "homeless" are mostly just the mentally ill/drug addicts wandering around who in giving them large sums of money will not change the problems they face on any real level. A insane meth head is still a insane meth head even if we put him in a mansion, they need mental help not 500 bucks. Dave Ramsey going and giving large tips to low income workers is the exact kind of virtue signaling that created the left wing. I make 6 figures I'd still be over the moon if someone gave me 500 bucks randomly. However it doesn't mean I need it. I doubt most Waffle House employees are without a home/apartment, car, etc. So really I guess if you interpret that "helping the poor" means giving low income people nicer things that they don't need then I guess we are lousy Christians. However the poor in the Bible are literally normal people living on the streets, lepers, etc not the guy who thinks aliens abducted him and needs another bottle of booze or the single mom busing tables. I lost a lot of respect for the so called "poor" in the US because of my family. So much of their poverty wasn't really something that was worthy of some Marxian revolution. Yet there they are wanting to "Eat the rich", not because of their evil social engineering, but because my mom didn't have a new set of clothes every 6 months? It's madness. That's a lot of BLM as well, "I didn't get new Air Jordan's all the time because of white racism so we need to overthrow the system". Absolutely insane and people like Dave Ramsey aren't helping feeding into this false narrative.

I so agree. I grew up in the UK after WW11. Because of all the bombing I spent my early years in a tin hut which thanks to Winston Churchill had been built anticipating the needs of returning military and homeless civilians. I had one pair of shoes, my mother sewed me two dresses for summer and worst of all I learnt to go hungry. No food in the cupboard. I live in South Africa now and if you want to see poverty come here and we will show you. Hunger, homelessness, no running water or electricity. I read the UK news as all of our family is there and it “oh how am I going to run my central heating this year”? We had a tiny coal fire that was lit at night for a little while because that was all my folks could afford. We walked to church every Sunday and we managed. People need to learn to be grateful for all they have and try helping those who have nothing especially those who don’t know Jesus.

"I doubt most Waffle House employees are without a home/apartment, car, etc." Doubting isn't the same as knowing, but you are substituting feelings for facts to make wrong judgments about people that you know absolutely nothing about. Most poor people aren't black and most black people don't care about Air Jordan's, but these are right wing stereotypes that give you a free pass to be ignorant and judgmental. "I didn't get new Air Jordan's all the time because of white racism so we need to overthrow the system". The stupidity of this manufactured quote is astounding. Also, claiming that the term "virtue signaling" created the left wing just demonstrates the appalling state of your right wing brainwashing. I'm guessing you watch Fox News and listen to right wing hate radio constantly. I'm guessing you voted for Trump and have no problem with him ripping innocent kids from their parents arms and throwing them in dog cages. I'm guessing you have no problem with Trump being accused of rape and/or sexual assault by 26 women. I'm guessing you have no problem with Trump being a pathological liar. Why are you claiming to be a Christian when nothing you've said glorifies Jesus? It's just a steady stream of right wing grievances. If you were to face Jesus right now how would you explain yourself?

It is worth leaving gospel tracts around even if you do not know what happens after. I work in a grocery store and someone left a gospel tract on a shelf. My unbelieving co worker saw it and asked me what it was. It was one of those million dollar bill gospel tracts. That opened the door for me to explain that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose from the dead 3 days later.

Though I appreciate Dave’s teaching on personal finances and how to get out of debt, I don’t agree with his statements noted here at all. Yes, as Christians let’s be generous as possible- and if that is leaving an enormous tip, then by all means do it if it is within your means, but let no believer think a witnessing tract is of lesser value. Knowing Truth and accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior is the greatest gift we all will ever receive. Money can be a blessing to someone in need, but someone sharing Christ with an unbeliever who is hurting is priceless. Be well all - and be kind ☺️

I would agree that the Gospel message is more important than money. Money can't save, but Christ can. But there is another side of this coin to look at. I worked as a server at a restaurant one summer to help pay the bills when I was in graduate school. There was one time when I had to serve a church group that was meeting at the restaurant. In the end they left a Gospel tract and a very small tip. As a Christian, the thought ran through my head that if I had not been a Christian I probably would have thrown the tract in the garbage and would have had nothing to do with the Church after being presented the Gospel in that manner. The moral of the story is that if you are going to share the Gospel with a server/waitress, you better leave a very generous tip. Otherwise you will undercut the Gospel message to that individual and possibly make them worse off in the end.
