Wow, great concert here. I've got to be honest, Linda Oh's bass solo is one of the only bass solo's where I was actively engaged and didn't get bored.

The blend these two horns have I've only heard one other place: Rahsaan Roland Kirk on two saxes simultaneously. This tune and performance remind me a lot of Rahsaan-the same energy, intensity, and playful spark are all present.

I really don't understand your comments. I am a bass player myself and that was a tasteful and interesting solo. Chill

Nothing is more overrated than the bass solo--by anyone. Nothing is more elusive than a high-hat clap and bass synchronized to perfection, like clock work, bringing everyone out of their seats--not to applaud anyone's fenomemanl flying fingigers but to join the cosmic vibe. Ray Brown, Doug Watkins, Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, Nils Pedersen, even Scotty LaFaro before his new role with Bill--all understood that the bassist is most sacred and Christ-like because of his contributions of service.

The "we got the funniest hats" band, for sure. Does the bass player even matter in this music? When you've caught 4 boss tenors carving each other up on the same stage--Dexter, Ammons, Stitt and Moody--and with the rhythm section swinging so hard it produced levitation--it's mundane and prosaic to come down to this stuff. It's fun though. And you don't have to worry about fluffing notes on Confirmation or Donna Lee. Next, Jaws, Griffin, Turrentine, Rouse and Land spoiling you for good.

Even if the technique is good, I do not want you to play the bass like an ukulele.
