Couldn't have had anyone better than Charles Grodin to pull off this bit.
Damn, Dave did his at-home show 36 years before other late-night hosts!

Letterman was a genius just by not caring what people think. Authenticity is sorely missed these days.
Full length episodes! Yes! More of this! 😍

I've said for years they should make a David Letterman channel playing all the old shows in order. I'd easily pay to watch them!
There was no one cooler on TV than Dave in the 80's. There has been no one as cool since. Thanks for the memories!!!

This was Letterman’s house in New Canaan CT. Shared it with Merrill Markoe & his two dogs Bob & Stan. Sold in 2002 for $1.1 mill. Over two hundred years old. Moved to North Salem NY.

@@allendracabal0819 That show started in 1982. I was working in NYC then & because I commuted from NJ I read like three papers a day on the train. Used to love watching him back then. I guess it stuck with me because my mom lives up there now 👋

I understand the house was torn down a few years ago along with a few adjacent homes so someone could build a compound on multiple lots. If true, that's sad. Houses like that with the camp lodge-type architecture are almost impossible to find now. Not to mention the history and novelty of being Dave's house during his most prolific era.
What a strange, trippy episode of Blue's Clues.

NICE. 😀
This is the ultimate beauty of the 12:30 time slot - just doing weird, experimental stuff. Nothing was ever cooler in late night. This is why Dave is the king and is so revered by so many generations of comedians, from Jon Stewart to Jimmy Kimmel and so many more.
I was SO hoping the cable guy was Chris Elliott.

I never saw this show . I was 12 when this one aired and I didn’t start watching Letterman regularly until I was about 17. But man this makes me feel old. The late 70s and early 80s was an awesome time to be a kid.

I didn't really feel that way. I thought she talked just the right amount for a talk show. What surprised me is how shy she seemed.
Today, it’s hard to understand how revolutionary this was. To understand the full extent of the humor you have to know what network tv was like in the late 1970’s into the early 1980”s.

True. Tv was very structured and rigid. If someone stood up from their chair on the tonight show it was considered edgy
For the longest time, Charles Grodin looked the same. RIP CG
Kind of minor genius. Loved these years. Dave was at his best in the early days. His kooky enthusiasm was just so perfect. His later years were a tad more cynical, but still funny and sincere. :-)

He got older. But I couldnt get into the CBS show, Just wasn;t the same.
It’s amazing how it started as a very silly show, and ended with the incredible Linda Ronstadt talking about the diversity of music.
Charles Grodin and Dave Letterman is basically a proto Jordan Schlansky and Conan o'Brien
This was his house on North Wilton Road in New Canaan, CT. My good buddy lived directly across the street.
Linda Ronstadt, the woman who described Elton Johns first show at the Troubadour as "So good it made everyone feel like we were levitating" and Dexter Fletcher read that and used it in Rocketman.
Dave really filled out those jeans if you get my drift. Now I know why he was such a hit with the ladies

Charles Grodin was must-watch in those early Letterman days. A great bit with them subtly busting each other's balls.
That was just a spectacular piece of nostalgia. Thanks for sharing Dave!
I would take two solid hours of Hal Gurnee's Network Time Killers over any talk show presently on television.
I would love to see the "Fun With Delivery Men. Dave had deliveries of pizza, a bird and an ice sculpture. That was one of the best EVER.
Dave was a wild & crazy guy in those days. Oh wait, that was Steve.
Charles Grodin was always great. How was he not a part of Dave's final shows?
@chiefscheider

I wondered that too. In terms of iconic Letterman guests, he was right up there with Teri Garr and Bill Murray. Grodin's last appearance on Late Show was in January of '08
Grodin, Paul Simon and Letterman all lived within 20 miles of one another at the time.

The 1980's, the cable age.
Damn, Dave doing these things before everyone else does! Asmr with his dogs and doing his tv show from his home!
Young Jerry was so polite. 65yo Jerry would have nailed Dave for showing up late to work.
25:43 Jerry nervously vamping with Paul was great, Jerry did great
Why is Dave just Steve from Blues Clues in this clip it’s messing with me so hard.
Thanks for making these public Dave.
They should've had Charles wander up the street from his place to the Letterman household
Dave is so nutty! I miss that so much!
Like a fine wine.

Absolutely fantastic
There was another episode where Dave sat at home and watched a rerun of a previous show.
Good old David Letterman, WFH - Working From Home, in the 80s. 😀👍 Joking aside, Letterman has always been a smooth articulate interviwer, with interesting conversations on his shows. 👍

I wonder how long it was before that cable guy realized he installed cable on Letterman's show.
Pure comedy gold!
Great fresh material. Linda’s comment about hoping her voice is still strong at her Dad’s age 🥲
I love Dave! This is the best!
Great show line-up. Groden and Seinfeld are extremely funny. Linda is gorgeous.

Oh dear … jeans, rugby shirt and vintage Nikes? That’s exactly what I wear every day NOW in 2022.
Great Guestlist, love the Rugby Shirt, and the dogs!
Classic Dave! We would all do the same BS for cable. Dave was a Regular Guy!
Full eps, yessss!!!
love this!
What a glamorous home!
Staggeringly ahead of his time, wow! I see comedians like Tim Heidecker (of "Tim and Eric" fame) drawing so much inspiration from episodes like this.
Love this!
Linda Ronstadt, wondering if people would be willing to pay the ticket price for her concert, “$35 is a lot to ask of people. Then they have to get a babysitter… I just don’t know. We’ll see.” $35!!!! Dang.

Beautiful...
Dave is wearing the same shirt as the guy in Blues Clues. Lol
Its like an episode of This Old House, from the early 80's
My Uncle (RIP) was one of the first to own a cable company down south. We were the $h!+ in the neighborhood(that's a good thing). Plus, all the newest gaming systems! But, no one, no one could resist our coolness for street football! We were the envy of outdoor entertainment! PS for prosperity, (when the Smithsonian looks for history) the kids on a show called Zoom wore these shirt too.
the funniest part of this bit is the shirt
