Dave Coleman: The Datsun nerd that is Mazda's Master of All Technobabble - Inside the MotoMan Studio
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Over the years, Dave Coleman has become a guest host of sorts in his role as Master of All Technobabble at @MazdaUSA , however we know little about his background that got him there. Now, the sorta technical guest host of MotoMan becomes this week’s guest on Inside the MotoMan Studio where we learn of his formative years with aviation, Datsun 510s to being pre-ordained to a world of technobabble by being one of 15 engineering students to go to Japan and tour OEM R&D facitilies . . .

Was an avid reader of Sport Compact Car when I was a kid and Dave Coleman was one of my heroes! Great interview and thanks Dave for sharing your story and inspiring a newer generation of car nerds!
Motoman - this is what you're best at. You need to start a podcast and talk with these amazing people like Dave Coleman
This was an incredible insight into someone I totally respect. He's being a bit shy about his role at the magazine because I'm the guy that hired him. His pitch was "I can get you some more readers." A few months later great things began to happen at SCC.

Dave is the man! I remember his time at SCC. Every column was worth a read. He was actually the first journalist that made me want to buy and read a magazine as opposed to just look at pictured.
42:29 Everyone should listen and remember this.
Dave Coleman was my favorite engineer / writer for sport compact car magazine. I still have boxes and boxes of Sport compact car magazines
This is a gem of an interview of a remarkable person. Thank you, both.
Well done Motoman! Thank you for taking us on a tour of Dave Coleman's mind. A truly captivating interview of an accomplished person!
I really REALLY like your Dave Coleman interview. I have been a BIG Fan of Brutally Honest Dave Coleman when he presented Mazda CX9 tech which I ended up buying and love it.
As a member of the “510 Club” and a Southern California car guy, and a driver of an NB Miata, I heartily enjoyed this interview. Let’s hear it for enthusiasts in all areas of commerce and joy.
I’m jealous of you MotoMan. You have some incredibly cool friends. Dave Coleman has such an interesting story to tell. Great deep dive into the mind of an amazing engineer.
Oh wow!! What a jewel of an interview! I have admired Dave since the Sport Compact Car magazine days!! I absolutely loved reading the Technobabble article he put out every month!! This is so awesome!

Thanks, Claudio!
Mazda is lucky to have such passionate people like Dave & Ken. As always, excellent work M.
Excellent interview Motoman!! Already shared it with one friend, and will be sharing it with others tomorrow.
Another great conversation Motoman!
A great conversation! Keep these coming :)
Who would have known I have something in common with Dave. In my early 20's I owned a Datsun 2000 Sports here in OZ. Had it for 18 months and lent it to my best mate for a weekend, and he nosed it into a lamp post ... oops. Fast forward to Nov 1989, and I bought an MX5, that I first saw at the Melbourne Motor Show in February. I still have it. NB and NC's were released but didn't appeal, but when I saw the ND I fell in love again, and bought one in Nov '15. Still have it. Huge thanks to Dave for all the information he's released on the MX5 over recent years, and hoping he continues. 👍
Brilliant. Superb YT channel. I’ll watch as much Miata or Dave Coleman content you can make 🙌🏻
Great interview! Dave Coleman is the real deal.
Great interview.
Dave is amazing!
i absolutely love this video btw
Thanks Motoman for this interview, I bought 2020 CX9 signature and I love it to the max, Dave Coleman details explanation about engineering thought behind the design of Mazda's has won me out completely, my local mazda salesman was amazed how I knew more about the cars his selling than himself 😀, good job Dave, But pls figure out how you can convert this good products into sales for the ordinary persons just like the Korean products are doing on the market
Dave, we need more power and more sound insulation. I tried to get my son to get a Mazda 3, either new or used. It was too loud and had no power. We ended up with a manual Golf TDI instead. He really really liked the 3's hatchback shape and interior, and oh that red color. But no power, interior noises, and manual only at top of the line killed it for us. I have had 5 different Mazdas. Thanks for sharing your story.
I'd love a turbo or a 2.5L Skyactiv X or a true hybrid Mazda 3.
43:20 makes wish that Subaru kept the size and the weight of the WRX STI at the level of the GC8 instead of making it bigger and heavier every single generation.
