Dave has millions in the bank and still dreads ending up poor and with nothing. The nature of America has to change... So many people live with this fear every day and many others are already experiencing what it is like at the bottom with nothing there to help you or care about you. It is that fear of poverty that keeps people working tirelessly to try desperately to have a future for themselves and their families, but at an extreme mental cost that makes almost everything that happens feel so desperate, like any slight change in policy could ruin your entire life.

Different people find different things funny, and that's fine. For example, I'm generally not a fan of "stoner humor" and very few attempts at stoner humor amuse me. Doesn't mean people can't love stoner humor; you're you, I'm me, and that cat over there is most definitely an alien scheming to skin us alive and wear our flesh like a suit, but the important part is that everyone is different, which means there's different comedians for different audiences.

This is what comedy really is - it's not just Dave, Robin Williams had it, Richard Pryor had it, your funny Aunt has it. Comedy at the heart is the awareness of how great and inexorable mans misery and suffering are coupled with the discovery that laughter trumps all of it, yes, hell itself! For every and anyone that's tried to make another person laugh - even for mundane and prosaic reasons, thank you!

And you are too kind. I've been a joker all my life and every time I hear someone say - 'how can they joke with such-n-such, it's such a serious subject.' I feel so sorry because they completely miss the point of comedy. It's not everything is great, let's laugh - it's 'this is so depressing we must while we live find yet reason to smile, even laugh about it. You know like the woman who goes to have an abortion and discovers a tumor instead and exhales! "Thank God! I thought I was really pregnant!" All of it is almost suicidally depressing 'except these are the days of our lives!' Laughter is our eject-button.

Anogoya Dagaati Yes my friend! At least somebody gets the true intent of comedy and a real sense of humor. I hate to be redundant but the liberal left is destroying what makes comedy great: The ability to make fun of and laugh at anything, so as long as it's intellectually funny and said with the intent to make one laugh and not to degrade. This whole pc movement is ridiculous; it stifles creativity. It seemed like it had the potential to ruin Chappell's career when he made his comeback. Luckily he has an enormous core audience and he was able to adapt. Happy New Year, bro!

What makes Chappelle so great is the depth of his intelligence. There are other ways to be really funny, but with Dave, behind his excellent humor is profound and mature wisdom and compassion e.g: the SNL monologue where he accentuated fairness and optimism contrary to what one might have expected. He is a treasure and we should be thankful that he has rejoined public life. He is a true leader.

I didn't realize there were so many conspiracies about Chappelle. Compared to his past self, he seems more relaxed and more self-assured, he's clearly worked out a bunch, and he is very open about his anxiety and nerves. I'm pretty sure he was depressed, because I've gone through depression myself and I see the exact same differences in my current self and my past self. Another cue is the fact that he turned down a huge sum of money, because I did the same exact thing (although not nearly as much) in 2013. Sometimes all the money in the world just isn't enough, you need time to figure yourself out and to heal.

No, he is even more depressed. Like he said, fear of poverty is more stressful than selling out to “whitey, Illuminati, the man”. Like a caged wild animal, it’ll either die or give into its captor.

A big part of Chappelle's message that I've always appreciated, and which is way out of fashion right now, is slowing your roll and remembering that the other is a human being too. I despise Trump with every ounce of my being but I still appreciate that message-- sort of secular-Christian.

He's not polarizing... the world has just become pussified. If Dave had this act 30-40 years ago, competing with Redd Foxx and Sammy Davis Jr. and Don Rickles, and Rodney Dangerfield, he would have fit in perfectly. Today, his words just trigger the snowflakes.

Im not sure what you guys are talking about. My comment was regarding how Dave Chappelle answered the question. He obviously has a much stronger opinion on the topic but his answer was much more positive than I expected. Kudos to him. Im not sure why this generated such responses when I just congratulated the guy for being civil.
