Dave Chappelle at Allen University: "With great power comes great responsibility"

In a rare interview, comedian Dave Chappelle tells "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King about why he is connecting with a part of his family history at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. His great-grandfather, Bishop William David Chappelle, was a former president at the university.

"That people are trying to replace the ideas of good and bad with better or worse. And that is incorrect, you gotta keep your ethics intact. Because good and bad is a compass that helps you find the way. And a person that only does what's better or worse is the easiest type of person to control. I don't understand the people hating on this dude, on some "boo he's unfunny" or "he a clone" shit. This guy has aged, so his comedy has changed, but he's still got it more than so many of the trending standup comedians... His style is absolutely unique, he can make you laugh with stupid jokes, and then come back to these jokes and be like "oooh snap, that's what he meant", in a way very few comedians can. if any. And how can you listen to a speech like that and acknowledge the depth of his words, the sheer wisdom that emanates from his thoughts? What's amazing about this guy is how simple, and how real he keeps it. His standup persona has always been a reflection of that aspect of his personality: he only knows how to do things the way he does them. That's why his crowd loves him. That, and the fact that he's so generous when he's on stage... I remember seeing footage from a gig at a comedy club in NY I think, where he spent an amazing 3.5 hours with the small crowd that was there and basically closed the place down, getting food in there with them, just because they were having fun. Imagine how blessed you must feel, if you one of the lucky guys in attendance, you've paid to see a regular routine, and you get to spend so much time with one of the best that ever did it, and interact with them (throughout the set, he was literally going back and forth with the audience, and improvising jokes based on what they told him) A legend. Simply.
