Chris Daughtry got exactly what he needed out of Idol...exposure. While he didn't win on the show, which was certainly for the best for him contractually and musically, his post Idol career has shown him to be the clear winner. Many people were outraged that he was voted off the show. By the time he put together his band and went into the studio, he had already cultivated a solid fan base that was eagerly awaiting the first album. He couldn't have scripted the entire Idol era any better for himself.

True friend. Here in Brazil we were also shocked by the manipulation that made Chris lose. Today he and his band are a mega success.

Wow I just love his voice. He was the real winner of this show. FYI hes the Rottweiler on the masked singer. Y'all know it's Chris.

they need to bring him back for more performances. Definitely one of the stronger Idol contestants

He put the work in after his loss. I think that’s what makes the difference. He had exposure from idol, a record deal and worked his ass off writing songs.

It's no surprise that this song is so beautiful.

Yes idol gave him platform and actually not winning idol gave him free roam to sign with any and he already won many hearts and that made him A GREAT ARTIST cuz he touched millions!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The part where he said "Our favorite place we used to go...." in high note. I like the way he sings it in second voice more.

I'm a huge Daughtry fan, especially Chris himself. Everyday I'm watching uploaded videos of Daughtry and if correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the best performance that they had 'LIVE' for this song (No Surprise).

most of the Idol contestants need this show to make them great, Daughtry was ready for greatness from his audition, he learned and flew to greatness off this stage.

simon eats shit everytime he hears daughtry on the radio, or is forced to watch him perform right in front of him, like in this clip. love it!

Great band and Chris is a great singer. I met Josh Steely and Brain Craddock back in June. They were both so nice and so down to earth. They made me feel so loved and I feel like I know each one of them on a personal level through their music.

Chris looked so sad on the video when he got eliminated but for sure he's happy now because his career is better than those who won.

@lemonslemons2010 They're in-ear monitors. They help singers to hear themselves when singing, reduce surrounding noise and instruments, and help them to stay in tune. It's always better to hear yourself when you're singing. Imagine having all those instruments around you along with the crowd and you singing in the mic but can't hear yourself lol that would mess you up. So, it's just a good little helper. ;)

Yep, he would've been shunned by mainstream rock radio. If you look at the winners of that show, the only two that have actually gone on to a successful career, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. But both originally went the country route. Then Kelly obviously went more Pop. But American Idol seems to despise rock artists, ashame!!!!!

Great example why American Idol's a fucking joke. Chris was easily the best artist and performer and definitely should've won. Better that he didn't, because American Idol would've just buried him. He's doing far much better since he was cut.

myinfinitestate I mean Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood set the standard for popularity from idol and they both won. Personally I love daughtry’s music more than both of them combined but you’re right it’s probably best he didn’t win.

I like how everyone who was eliminated from American Idol near the end, turned out to be more successful than anyone whose actually won. O_O

Chris Daughtry is a very singer and this is an amazing song but this performance had some issues.....it seems he didn't properly warmed up his voice previous to the show so it sounds week and out of tune.
