    Great video Nico - I always learn some great nuggets from you - thanks for doing these as I use Siril & GIMP exclusively, so these are very helpful. I just wish I had seen this video 48 hours ago as I unknowingly updated to Ventura and I can confirm that Siril does not operate properly with Ventura - UGH!!!! Not exactly sure how to revert from 13.0 back to 12.6 as I don't have Time Machine established or back-ups, etc. and don't want to lose anything if try to re-install 12.6 from the App Store (?). I'm going to reach out to Siril and see if they have a timeline in mind for a fix as I'm dead in the water right now.

    Again I am learning so much from you. I have only used SIRIL for stacking but now I need to go back and rework some earlier shots using the SIRIL processing tools you demonstrated here and also GIMP tools that I never knew how to use before this video. We are supposed to have, finally, clear skies for two nights in a row so I should also have new session photos to practice on! One question though is how you obtained the four separate LRGB files. Were these broken down by SIRIL or did you separately process each set of images and if so did you use your bias, dark, and flat files with each set? Cheers and this video will also be watched several more times.

    I took data with a mono camera through four separate filters: luminance, red, green, blue. I ran the mono pre processing script with the calibration files four times (once for each filter) to get the four resulting files that I shared here. Hope that makes sense!

    Great! I'm usually very satisficed by the time I get to the point of having the stacked images and only needing the post processing done. My problem is the calibration of mono files, which I am very new to it and my flats/ flat darks refuses to calibrate the stacked files right. I'm talking about my own files of course. I thought I had my experience ready for mono, but apparently not LOL! Also the camera itself maybe have a role in it, with the Panasonic sensor, which I researched and read some very mixed reviews and how it just won't work with just any calibration frames (regarding how long exposure, how many ADU , and probably I may have to do a ritual tribal dance around it a few times. 🤣🤣 I guess I am spoiled by OSC cameras too much!

  • @NebulaPhotos

    @NebulaPhotos

    Жыл бұрын

    Ah flats can be tricky, but I'm surprised to hear you are having a big trouble with calibration moving from OSC to mono. What does it look like when they aren't calibrating right, over-correcting?

    Hey there Nico. I was wondering, could you do a video about how to add data to an already processed image? So like if you take 2 hours of data on say, the Andromeda Galaxy, and you processed the data to a final image, but then you gather 2 more hours of data the next year, how would you combine the data?? Do you already have a video on that?

  • @NebulaPhotos

    @NebulaPhotos

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't, but I will add it to the list. The short answer is keep all your raw data. You can add to a project later if you have your raw data. If you only have the processed photo, it's not really worth doing IMO.

  • @NebulaPhotos

    I would start with no filter, and just go for objects that are high in the sky where the light pollution will be not quite as bad. The Messier objects are a good choice typically as they are brighter objects that can compete better against the light pollution.

    Hi Nico. I've a question. How should I approach if I wanna stack astro images taken on multiple nights? If I stack images of each session separately and then stack the result autosave files of each session, will it gonna work?

  • @NebulaPhotos

    @NebulaPhotos

    Жыл бұрын

    That can work. It is an easy way to do it, but won't technically result in the best photo. There are other ways too. DSS has a 'group' feature at the bottom for loading in multiple nights. With Siril, I'd suggest Sirilic add-on or learning manual calibration / stacking process (not using the scripts).
