His boss/company require such data to understand people's requirements more and then direct respective companies to fulfill those requirements. The market/customer decides what they want. It's not like the Data Science companies are implanting or manipulating people to like or dislike something. This is by far one of the lousy takes I have seen in a long time about Data Science.

Usually education. Data scientists are usually doing more complex analysis. Data analyst jobs will typically do descriptive statistics with the more advanced ones incorporating simple regressions and classifications. When you want more complex math than that, you would typically want a data scientist.
