Summary: 1. Learn Excel, SQL, Tableau or any BI tool and all of these should take around 2 months to learn 2. Do projects on those (2 on SQL, 1 on Excel and 1/2 on Tableau) 3. Build a resume and add projects and skills on the resume 4. Work with a recruiter to get job or to maximize your chance to get interviewed 5. Prepare for both general and technical interviews (tech interviews are mostly on SQL) 6. Lean any Cloud platform and AI if you have more time

The way Alex words things and explains things really just clicks with my brain. I would love a resume building video that has examples for both the newer individuals to the work force in general, but also for people who are trying to make a career shift after 10yrs of work experience and seeing how to make your previous work still support your career shift. Especially what kind of transferable skills might be worth highlighting.

i just finished my marketing degree which gave me some exposure to business analytics. im gonna persue that route and this video really helped me with guidance. thank you and i hope we all get our future analytics jobs and self actualise!

Since I saw you last year, I’ve completed the Google Data Analytics Certificate, and I am on the capstone for the Advanced Certificate. First education I’ve completed, hopefully I can get it together to become fluent enough to pass interviews. They were difficult for me to retain enough to pass with aid, but maybe now a second pass will bring me where I need to be.

Hey Alex, can you please recommend a good Python DSA course ? We all gotta nail those DSA interviews for jobs I know there are 1000+ DSA courses out there but rare any is in Python or just not up to par. Any recommendations please ?

I agree with the skills you named in this video to be needed in the jobs, but I see a lot of people who are graduated with computer science degrees, or studied data science in bootcamps and now all of us are applying for the same jobs. Although in reality maybe the job needs only Excel and SQL, I feel like in the competition with those guys we have no chance with only the skills you mentioned.

I speak from experience. I believe his view is flawed. The technical interviews that I have had for data analyst positions are lengthy. I had a good resume with projects in excel and SQL. Had an interview and got all the technical questions right yet didn't move to the next round. Reached out to find out why and they told me they were wanting someone with more experience.

I just purchased the excel course and I’m looking for the files to go along with the tutorials, did I miss something l? Especially for the project or am I supposed to create my own files?

Alex, can you tell me what would be different in health? I work in a health department (finance role, not actual health role) but figure it’d make sense to transition to data analytics in the field I’ve been in. What would be different in the ‘how to get there?’

You need to learn how to work with “people” data. It’s important to know some basic health/public health terms and calculations. So things like a rate/100,000, mortality rate, incidence rate, how handle blanks (this is not the same as with other types of data). Also familiarize yourself with demographic data, like census data. Too many can’t distinguish between White and White non-Hispanic/Hispanic, these are key to many public health programs. An Epi curve is a must, it’s really just a time series of cases but too many don’t know what/how to do this.

I agree that the skills are essential but Alex omits the requirement to have a network of people who can speak about your work as a data analyst and even more important is domain knowledge. Interview 1 : Interviewer : ‘Looks great, just give us four names of people you have worked with in data analysis and give us examples of projects from work where you implemented (insert company’s domain here) using SQL, PowerBi, Python and Excel.

I've seen a lot of Excel courses on Udemy. I'm not sure which one to take. Do I need to take just General Excel or focus on Excel for the Data analyst? Also, can you attach the link for the Excel course to take through Udemy or Google certificate, please?

I started to learn in the weekends (I work 4x8 hours a week), 5 hours two times, Saturday and Sunday. You can cut your costs and you don't have to work so much. Less work = more time to learn. 2 month is only achieveable if you learn EVERY DAY 8 HOURS. I will take 1 month "holiday" from my workplace and in this 1 month I gonna try learn as much as I can. I am 1/3 way in SQL, Excel is done, Tableau/Power BI will be a cake after SQL. In this one month I try to do my portfolio in Linkedin, also some project work. Good Luck for us! :)
