DASH CAM INSTALL - HARD WIRED - DONGAR - VANTRUE N4 PRO - 2023 RAM 2500

Here is a video showing the exact details regarding installation of a #Vantrue #N4PRO dash cam, using a #DongarTechnologies 10-Pin Type D adapter using the power from the rear view mirror. No ugly wired running to the dash on this one. I also explain why I chose this Dongar adapter over the Vantrue fuse-tap hard wiring option - mainly due to having a #Fisher #XV2 installed on the truck.
For this to work, you MUST HAVE a power-dimming rear view mirror. Installation of the Dongar adapter would likely be very similar in other vehicles, but the removal and reassembly of the plastic trim/fascia, is likely unique to Dodge/RAM/Mopar vehicles. My particular truck is a 2023 #RAM #2500 #Laramie.
The actual install took less time than the video. Trying to get the proper angles, so that I could show you exactly what I was doing, proved to be quite difficult.

This link is for the Vantrue fuse-tap kit. A MUST HAVE if you are trying to use parking mode/night mode and you need your camera able to record incidents while your car is parked. My RAM sits for days and days at a time, without being driven, so this would just drain down my battery. In addition, my truck is parked in a lot that has a really good security system with 4K, color night vision cameras.

I would mount it where you can see it.
So does the ten pin in the mirror hub make it so you can use parking mode? I have the same truck and want to use the park8ng m9nitor for when I’m away.

the ten pin powering the rear view WILL NOT allow you to use parking mode. that particular connection has its power terminated automatically when the vehicle is turned off. in order to use parking mode, you need an alternate method or hard wiring, like the Vantrue fuse tap kit in the links above. that particular product has a low voltage protection that will kill power to the camera automatically if your battery voltage drops too low. basically, that voltage protection kills the dash cam power when your battery drops to 11.6V (for a 12V system, like a regular car or pick-up truck), so it doesn't kill the battery and prevent you from being able to start it the vehicle.

Ok to follow up, even the hardwire kit doesn’t help because there is no fuse box inside the ram 2500. It is in the engine bay so you have to drill through the firewall and I don’t feel like doing that. Do you have the link to Amazon for that dongar? There’s several different ones and I don’t want to get the wrong one. Thanks
