    Great advice. Bought a dart board a few weeks ago and couldn't hit a barn door. Started watching your channel last week........what a difference. My forearm was at 45 degrees to start with but now its perfectly vertical (felt weird to start with) but what a massive improvement. Ta pal. Best wishes from Motherwell, Scotland.

    I watched this video a year ago and it helped me so much! Last couple months my darts have decreased in accuracy so much went from 55-60 avg down to low 40’s coming back to watch this again has brought me right back to where I was hitting my first 70avg and allowing me to finally enjoy myself again and not get so frustrated. Thank you so much.

    Amazing video ! I'm just playing for about a month and I felt like I was doing something 'off' with my arm, so I started filming myself and it looked awful lol. It's hard to get this alignment right, but I'll get there. A problem I have though and I have never seen anyone else mention this, is that I have like a minor pop on the inside of my elbow every time my arm goes from full stretch to pull up to aim, it's a tendon that pops in place or something and annoys me greatly. I wonder if anyone else has this issue when playing darts...

  • @Straightdarts

    @Straightdarts

    You may be using the elbow to much in the throw and possibly causing a hyperextension. This isn't good at all for longevity. Keep the elbow as still and as relaxed as you can. Imagine your renting it on a the when throwing and just use your forarm, wrist and fingers. It's an old John Lowe trick. :)

    My major problem is I first put my arm up my elbow is way out to the right so I have to bring it in .in doing that I am looking at where my elbow is before I throw and I think looking at my elbow is taking my focus off looking at my target is there anyway I can correct my arm knowing it is straight while concentrating on the target?will try the alignment tip I have long arms and don't stand side on more diagonal to full on and stand to the left as my arm is more level with the T20 bull 3 etc so glad you've said it's arm centre not body/feet etc

    You can find good alignment from anywhere on the oche but some places are easier than others depending on the player. The key to good alignment is to keep your shoulder and elbow pointing down the same path you want the dart to fly, this way, as long as you flick straight and keep the elbow still, it's all down one line together. :)

    I've watched this video so many times now, and I'm still not quite sure how this works. Is the start position with your feet parallel to the oche, and finding the alignment like Peter Wright or MVG? Or how is the foot position at the start, and when you say "stand as central as possible" is it my arm that has to be central of the T20 or my feet? Hopefully you can help, and overall a great channel to follow. 👌🏻🎯

  • @Straightdarts

    @Straightdarts

    11 ай бұрын

    Your arm. No matter we're you stand you need the line from your elbow and shoulder pointing down the same path you want the dart to fly. So, of your arm is central down the oche, your elbow and shoulder should point under the double 3.

  • @Straightdarts

    @Straightdarts

    Жыл бұрын

    It's more common for left handed players to stand on the left hand side but in order to find the center you'll need to stand over to the right of the oche slightly. :) I always recommend staying central if in doubt but good alignment can be found form any position on the oche and that's fair more important. 👌 :)

    Try and imagine your elbow is resting on a table, don't worry about what your hitting at first. Just concentrate on getting it right. With the side to side movement is it on the throw or between throws. If it's between then it's properly your retrieval of the darts.

    Don't lift the forarm. I ment, try to get the palm of your hand and elbow facing towards the board. This is the position you need to find at the point if release, so by aiming with your arm already in that position, you shouldn't have to turn the elbow and bend the wrist when you throw. :)

    Hey Bud, love your vids! Question. Im a SL player with, as you explain it, a A game of 110-120ish. Hit a 9 once in my life. But my A game is like godmode, it hardly ever happens. B game probably about 80-85ish this happens alot at home, but not as much in SL/tourneys. C is where Im normally at like 70-75. I Practice every day for about 2/3 hours. Always starting with 10 mins throwing at the bull. Followed by 121 to 140 CO in 6 darts. Followed by bob 27. And then play lvl 14 dartbot on dartcounter which is about 80-85 average. Breaks like every hour 5-10 mins. But my question is.. What do I do when I throw my D game in practice or SL? Really frustrates me and really question myself/throw/release/stance/darts etc. My D game is not really really bad, average wise, but for me a killer for my confidence. When I have these days kick in it makes me throw rubbish for like a couple of weeks untill I find my form back again. I want to practice every day, but im not sure if I need to do this when Im throwing like this. (Seen the vid about this that you are just practicing rubbish darts and thats a no go) Got any tips about this, because I really want to put in the work daily and keep pushing to get my game to 90-95 average consitent? Thnkx in Advance buddy keep it up!

    Brilliant question, I always like to make notes about my throw when I'm playing well. When I'm having a practice like that I take a brake, read my notes and when I return to the board I stop thinking about where the darts are going and consecrate just on my technique and feel. You will normally find out what has changed even if it's just the timing. When you do, write it down in your notes for next time. I always use note on my phone so I can do this in events if needed.

    Definitely, practicing with three darts is bad enough. The hardest and most important dart is your first, using multiple dart sets, your practicing it less. You also tend to speed up. Always stop between throws to mimic the speed of the game. Then, implement a preshot routine and throw. Feet, head, pickup the dart. :)

    Wow! My average at the beginning of this year was 41.68. After this video, my averages slowly started creeping up. Was around the 46 mark within a week. 3 weeks later my last 3 matches 54 and 56 avg. My A game has gone from 77’s to an 83 and my D game has gone from 36 to 41. Thanks pal

    Getting a good drawback is all about timing and the grrip, it's very advanced and it's one of my biggest advantages over other coaches. When I work with professionals 85% of what we work on is timing. I do coach it, but I can't give it away for free, I only coach it on aessions and throw analysis videos where I own the rights to the footage. I know it's probably not the answer you wanted but I'd rather be truthful, it's my full job and I have to protect some aspects. :) Sorry, buddy.

    If you elbow what to point inward toward thr double 7 instead of the D Double three, try standing to the right so you pointing towards the double three, albeit at an angle across the oche.

    my wrist keeps turning as I begin my release. without an dart I can keep everything straight but with an dart it is impossible not to turn my wrist at the start of the release. this makes my dart fly completely horizontal. thinking about quitting darts

    It's caused by unwanted movement of the elbow. If the elbow moves inward, your wrist will bend the other way. Keep it still. 💯:)

    @@Straightdarts thank you for the reply but my elbow is also dead still it is only my wrist that turns it is so frustrating. It is just impossible for me to keep it still.

    @Niels Van wingerden You sure it's not moving sideways as you go through? That's the main cause. Could also be a turn on the drawback. If you do this, you need to unturn and flick straight. Other than that alignment. If your arm isn't traving down the correct path needed to hit the target, your hand eye coordination can kick in, and the wrist will bend to compensate. :)

    Gary Anderson. Rather than setting the throw up with good alignment, he keep the elbow out and stands front on. This means he has to bring the elbow in on the throw and find perfect alignment by the point of release. The gives him about 0.2 to 0.3 of second to get his eye, the dart and the gape between his first finger and thumb down the same path. The hand eye coordination to achieve this is way out the realms of most players on a consistent basis. Anderson is one of the most naturally gifted players every, absolutely unbeatable on his day, and yet he only has two world titles in over 20yrs as a pro. He one of the absolute best, but not consistent compared to those with more basic throwing action, like Taylor, Lowe, Adams, MvG, RvB ect. Its its possible to be good without good alignment if you very gifted, but you'll never be as consistent as possible. Most of us wouldn't even be able to sting a few good legs without it, I definitely couldn't 😂
