Even his lightsaber fighting. It's been noted in canon that Vader had to change his lightsaber fighting style after Mustafar and his transformation into a mostly mechanical cyborg, because of the hindrance to his physical mobility due to the suit being rather restrictive. You'll notice Anakin was very agile and his fighting reflected that, but with the mech suit he had to adapt to more of a brawler style because the range of motion in his body was severely limited compared to pre-Mustafar Anakin. It's awesome they fit that detail in so well with the games while still showing the Chosen One's formidable power over the force, which in my opinion compensates for the lack of mobility 100%. Just imagine what damage Vader with a fully intact, non-mechanical body could do

@@GMP1isReal I believe so, I've heard that somewhere else before but never checked to be sure but it makes the most sense to me, especially seeing the level of technology the empire has at its disposal in the newer shows and movies I would say Vader's obsolete suit was intentional. Not only does it make perfect sense for Palps to do that, it also serves to magnify Vader's suffering on all levels. I mean dude imagine being literally ripped limb from limb, set on fire, then saved from th brink of death to immediately undergo massive surgery, no painkillers or anesthesia, that leaves you crammed into a clunky metallic suit, rods and tubes jabbed into your ribs and other orifices to make you breathe and go peepeepoopoo without dying in the process, literally encased in a barely functioning contraption. That would be horrific, leads to believe the suffering was intentional to make Vader more willing to comply in order to seek a meaningful end to the pain. I feel for Vader and always have, that guy had it rough.

Luke 100% bested Vader wdym? It was only until the end when Vader truly saw his son dying that he sacrificed himself, Luke did tap into the dark side and that helped but it’s been stated on multiple occasions that at the end of RotJ Luke had surpassed Vader.

To be fair, fighting Vader solo and making him limp away is a lot more than most could manage.

There is also the fact that cybernetic implants make it harder to use the Force. It's been stated in various bits of media that since the Force moves through living things, mechanical prothesis' interfere with tapping into it. Despite this, Vader is still one of the most powerful wielders of the Force. The idea that he's using brute force to compensate because he's lost so much fine control and ease of connection fits extremely well.

Its crazy to think about how Vader completely turned his fighting style around. Anakin used to use his freedom of movement and strength to overwhelm and oppress his foes. Vader simply walks towards you his movement is limited, but the strength is still there. Your attacks will be blocked or counterspelled with force push. His attacks will come crashing down upon you relentlessly like a rockslide. You can't outrange or outmaneuver him because he can just put you where he wants and continue his assault.

This reminded me of fighting against young fencers - teenagers and early 20's - and how much their speed and aggressiveness impacts a duel. Compared to that when you have older fencers with less mobility but much more experience and skill, precise movements and full control of the duel. Yes, recklessness of youth can be difficult to deal with, but a master against whom nothing you try works, is just terrifying. That's just my personal experience based on sabre fencing.

Oh he was using his power but I like to think that he was a little scared and out of balance by Cere's composure and "i am stronger than you, you got no chance" attitude. He even nervously looked around when she pull that lever, like she was trying to cut his escape route similar like he did to separatist leaders when he was hunting them. And she almost won, Vader was starting loosing this fight, he was wounded and she was fine, his tactic obviously wasn't working until the point when Cere lost her patience and blindfully rushed on him and he used her mistake perfectly.

Vader is a juggernaut. No matter what you do to him, he will keep swinging.

I think they really did a good job with conveying vader's power through the gameplay. When you switch to Cere you realise how much more powerful she is than Cal, you can cut through enemies much more easily, you can take on so many more at a time. And then you encounter Vader and he is still the most difficult boss fight you've come up against.

The fact that he didn't brutalized her in the end, instead just walked away. makes me think that he respected her as an worthy enough opponent.

I always love when Vader slow walks and lumbers, you think "Oh he's all clunky and stiff" then suddenly just unleashes a barrage of deadly center mass targeted blows that physically send you staggering back and disorientated when blocked. He doesn't have to be fast, he just has to stop you being fast.

@@hidan407 Pretty much. He's painfully lonely. His only connection is an evil old man who'd kill him if he showed weakness, and he'd do likewise if he could. He's not just in pain...he lives in it purposely, to draw strength from the dark side. The closest he comes to normality is leading his troops (it's said he has excellent rapport and respect from his stormtroopers) and fighting on the front line. Challenging himself. But like any high, it fades once the fight is over.

@@hidan407 "Someone give Vader a hug" Legit the plot of Return of the Jedi 😂. It was dependent on Luke tho. Ashoka and Obi Wan both tried and failed to get through to him. They both knocked half the mask off, while Luke was the only one able to fully get through to his father.

I think people also forget that one of Vader’s favorite tactics is to make Jedi afraid. Because fear imbalances them. Cere let go of fear so she had her full potential on hand. Add to that Vader’s incessant need to play with his food and this fight checks out. Power and skill are only 1/3 of the equation for force users. Lack of inner conflict that conflicts with whatever side you’re using is also crucial, otherwise you’re nerfing yourself.

True although u got a valid point vader is way too tanky even strong jedi masters not named obi wan had trouble fighting him ans most died too easily so yes he can be a bit too overconfident when he fights which leads to his opponents hitting him a few times but hes always been stronger tham everyone else even obi wan had to work hard and smart to beat him in terms of pure strength and afiinity with the force vader is too unstoppable only reason hes take a few hits from some of his fights was cuz he played too much with his enemies instead of out right going for the kill vader is the least nerfed person in star wars even if he doesnt take his battles seriously tho 🤦🏾🤦🏾

You can kinda of see Anakin and Vader favor Goku mentality. It's not really about toying with his food it's about testing his skill and challenging himself with a worthy opponent. However, just like Goku weakness similar to Vader he will let his gaurd down it's his arrogance as a fighter that leaves him in tough situations that is the reason Obi Wan bested him twice really three times but will leave TNH out of it.

The fact vader spends basically the whole fight doing the absolute bare minimum and mostly swings with one hand shows he couldn't care any less about Cere. He limps from the impact of having a section dropped on him but still walks away less like it was a hard fight and more like "Alright. That's done. Onto the next assignment." He didn't even give her a speech or really taunt her during the fight. Really gives the "For you it was the worst day of your life, for me it was tuesday" vibe

The change in audio and visuals when she was dying was spot on. It's as if you can feel her passing on as a jedi. Really hit with headphones.

Cere’s come a long way from the first game. From being flicked away like an insect to putting up one hell of a fight.

I love this since it really shows Vaders form of lightsaber combat well. You can see Cere get tired trying to block his blows while also trying to maneuver around. A solid fight scene. For how short it was

This fight pretty much showed that Cere was more powerful than we imagine she'd be We already had an idea in the final level of Fallen Order when she took on 4 Purge Troopers with ease and how she managed to keep up with Vader for only a tiny bit Here she managed well on her own against Vader, even to the point of making him breathe heavily which indicates that Vader is having trouble fighting or he has been damaged incredibly during the fight, either way Cere gave him a good fight, so he gave her a quick but honorable death

vader was literally toying with her, i dont think he saw this as a good fight. it was just an errand he had to run. he tends to acknowledge good fights while he’s having them if youve read the books/comics. all he said to cere was “youve grown stronger” which isnt even really a compliment it was just an observation. he still easily defeated her

​@mapowey7214 if you actually read the books and comics you'd know that if Vader actually was playing with her, he'd always get a last word in before striking the killing blow. Here, he literally limps away from the fight, having win, but keeping completely silent. Cere had his utmost respect as a combatant. And let's not forget that the canonical reason Vader is so effective as a jedi slayer is because there are very few jedis that don't fear him. The moment they show fear, Vader feeds on it and uses it against them. There are reportedly jedi masters who have beaten or forced Vader to submit and in every case, those jedi did not fear Vader.

I think the new Canon has done a good job portraying Vader as an unstoppable force. He's always out of everyone else's (save Obi-Wan's) league, and those who do manage to best him typically don't survive a rematch. I love the way Vader's "boss fights" play out. In Fallen Order, he has no health, a not-so-subtle indicator that you're not supposed to fight him, but run. Here, although he has a health bar now, you never really deplete it all the way, showing that while Cere had a better chance than Cal, she was never going to win. The main reason she put up as good of a fight as she did was because Vader was toying with her until the debris damaged his suit.

To make lightsaber battles more realistic in video games, instead of hitting your opponent when you "strike" them, you cause them to perform a desperation "auto-block" when you register a hit. 4:35 when Cere goes in for the lunge, you can see Vader shift just a bit to the left. Very nice detail.

Couple things Cere had going for her here; She knew what she was up against, most jedi who dealt with Vader met their end the first fight. She had honed her skills following Fallen Order and regained her sense of self control, she had no fear, nothing mentally for Vader to pick apart. All of that, and it still wasnt enough to beat him.

Arguably she did best him at the limit of her Jedi powers...but going for the killing blow was for selfish reasons. Not that it wouldn't have been justified...it's just what she wanted, not the force. She wasn't selfless enough to make that strike...or perhaps the will of the force was that it should not be done. In any case it was a fatal mistake.

That lunge wasn't the smartest move at all. She practically impaled herself

You can actually see Vader moving slightly away from that last attack. And the tactic he used was a classic hero's tactic. Making his opponent lunge right into his blade. That tactic is used to show that the villain killed themselves rather than the hero's doing. And Vader used just to show Cere fighting Vader in the first place was a death sentence.

I believe in addition to that, another comparison would be along the lines of villains drinking milk to appear deceivingly innocent in appearance (babies drink milk) which makes them more insidious. By killing her in a "hero way" it's similar to drinking milk. Evil in the form of ironic mockery at it's finest.

When I said "evil" it was in reference to what the average person colloquially refers to as evil. The average person generally doesn't possess the social intelligence required to even begin accurately assessing an "evil" person's mind, which is also why sociopaths (and just about anything these days if we're being honest) is labeled as "evil". -Due to a lack of true sympathy. In my opinion, Vader is more akin to a "dark empath" as I believe any strong user of the dark side is, as they rely on negative emotions (primarily of others) in order to achieve their power. Vader is famous for hating himself more than anyone, after all. That's what makes Star Wars so grand, it forces people to sympathize with all involved in the story, rather than being just another "black and white/close minded" fairy tale.

It also emphasizes something you see in his lightsaber strikes - no wasted movement. It sort of reveals a truth the game hides, which is that he could have killed her at any point. But that's not the job. It's not just Kill the Jedi. It's kill their hope. Break the faith. He keeps looking for things to use to dig at Cere, and there's nothing - except her absolute conviction that she has to kill him, has to win. If she stops it here, even if she dies, it's worth it. He could have *taken* the thrust to the gut and lived through it while killing her, because for him, it's all infinitely repairable. It's just more machine parts. But He denies her that. He moves just the exact amount necessary right as she finds hope, and then he kills *that.* No beheading stroke, no stab through the heart to finish the job. Just lets her fall to her knees knowing she's failed. That's when he leaves. That's when the jobs done. What a perfect villain.

Love how the respirator is damaged and at the end it looks like the killing blow was landed, only to reveal Vader had the upper hand. For a brief moment, they both were equally as close to death. Then Vader slowly rises and his respirator functions normally.

@@Drew_2152 Yes, but Vader/Anakin is not THE Force. Was he one of the greatest force wielders of his time? Yes. He brought balance to the force because the Jedi were so overwhelmingly powerful at the time that the dark side needed to levelled out. Just like when Anakin/Vader recreated the imbalance by destroying nearly every jedi and Luke came about and was 10x stronger than Vader. They are what the Force sends out to balance it, but they are not the force itself.

This is FAR from Vader's prime. Look into the mechanics of his suit, there are videos here on KZread detailing just how inefficient and restrictive Vader's suit really is, and how much Anakin's battle with Obi-wan on Mustafar actually crippled his power. Had Anakin won that battle against Obi-wan maybe we could have seen a true "prime" Vader. But it's amazing that even in his severely crippled state he was able to become such a dominant force throughout the star wars universe. Also I'd like to add that at the end of the fight with Cere you could definitely hear a disruption in Vader's classic breathing due to the damage to his suit's breathing apparatus. Awesome little subtle detail I found more appreciation for than I probably should have

I'd say prime Vader was the one fighting Obi-wan on Mustafar, he had already given himself to the dark and was mostly intact aside from a robotic hand. After the events of Mustafar and the emperor got him setup with the iconic suit, he became what I personally consider the crippled Vader. Still, to have such immense power while being literally half alive is fucking badass

I’m glad I’m not the only person that prefers Vader not being this overpowered unstoppable force that can never be harmed by anyone other than the legacy characters. Cere was an awesome character and her send off was also badass.. and Vader is of course as menacing as he always is. Star Wars fans will unfortunately get angry at anything the series does these days.

If you see Darth Vader, no matter what, he will never lose or die.

It’s amazing writing that he wasn’t trying and you can tell. He was mocking her by throwing the archives at her. But a small detail that was beautiful is after the first phase he switches from one hand combat to on fire with two hands, and getting more angry. He’s bested by Cere to which his longer lightsaber bests her. Absolutely brilliant writing

Tbh I am not a fan of how they made Vader limp out at the end. But that's it, the rest of the fight was cool and although my Vader fanboy side of me is screaming that Vader could clap her no to little diff, you do make a point. Only once a Jedi loses his fear of Vader will they ever become strong enough for him to try.

@@dungeonmaster7423 thing with Jedi’s is they only beat sith because they aren’t rash with their anger. All the sith use their anger to win. But Jedi use tactics and their surroundings to beat the sith. Cere had the adrenaline for protecting the rebellion, she’d learnt from the archives and a Jedi Grandmaster but she also had unique abilities which Vader underestimated. Yh I agree he shouldn’t have limped out, but it showed the Anakin in him. His need for victory. He won the fight so Anakin picks Vader up. But Vader is constantly pushing himself and challenging himself to become the greatest sith. That might even mean he lays off the aggression a bit to learn. Or in his arrogance, and lack of care, dies at the guilt of padme’s death

Nah if you watch the fight you can see that Vader was stronger than her, the problem is that he was playing with his food and got hit by that falling debris. After that Vader was struggling because of the damage suit and injuries which gave Cere a chance to fight back. Starkiller was just OP from the beginning, the guy is Goku of the Star Wars universe.

He was simple toying with her until she buried her under the books, then he got fed up.

The fact Cere could get Vader to use both hands, if even for less than 5 moves, says a lot about her skill.

You have to give it to Cere, she came farther than most. In recent memory, the 2 best examples of people to harm Vader to a point of noticable injury were his master, Obi-Wan and his Apprentice Ahsoka. Both of whom are extraordinarily talented duelists in their own right. Even though she lost, her talent in combat and the force are nothing to be scoffed at. Vader would agree.

Cal crying sounds so much more heartbreaking without the music. When I played it he sounded muffled. Man the emotion is raw

@@riverpb5250 Vader was still standing his ground. He could have still fought if he wanted too. Tne Obi Won walks away. Again. Ever the coward. This hurts Vader more then any saber strike. Vader doesn't want Obi Won to "die". Vader wants Obi Won to have more courage. It helps contrast Obi Won's death in the older movies. He probably got tired of running away. Vader poking the robes as if he can't believe what had happened. The coward standing his ground at last. It's clever plot writing here.

I love how to camera pan up towards Vader making him look more intermedating.

95% of the damage Vader received in this fight was from the bookshelf and debris dropped on him. Still, the fact that Cere found an opening like that and actually backed Vader for even a slim second (at best) is impressive. Considering how he got out, Cere, even if she lost and she would have lost even of Vader didn't have plot armour, managed to do more damage to him than 99.99% of the entire SW galaxy could ever hope. I think it also helps her greatly the fact that she was a calm true Jedi in this moment, whereas Vader underestimated her and gave her that opening in the first place. If Vader took her completely seriously from the get go, then Cere wouldn't have last so long and Vader would have taken so much damage, cause he would either have caught the bookshelf and debris, or he wouldn't have created that opening in the first place.

Vader is way more powerful, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to immediately react to every last possible scenario. Especially when he doesn’t seem to be taking it seriously at first like in this fight.

@@oldspice051 He's taking it quite seriously. Doesn't mean he's going to make a fuss and be a try hard. What Vader is doing is LETTING himself be a target. Just like in Fallen Order. He wants Cere to have a taste of that power. The idea is to break her. Then cere jumps in blind and Vader has to defend himself. It's her mistake. Vader doesn't hate or resent Cere. The situation is what it is. Probably can't face her due to already having killed her sister. It's kind of hard to look someone in the eye after going "I killed your familiy and now I injured you and you're slowly dying". Even Vader isn't that heartless. He's moving away because what else can he do at that point? Stare blankly at Cere while she dies? What would he even say? Vader, for once, is in a situation where he's not quite sure what else to do. Except move on. Just like with Anakin. Always trying to move forward at least. If he stalled, lingered, froze up and just stared, he'd probably feel incapable. He's only going to stick around and not swing his saber at you if you get him thinking. Cere said nothing (kind of hard too when stabbed). So off he goes. You're weak. You're dying. You know you jumped in blind. That's just how it is.

After so much lore has been added to Vader's story, I just find it unbelievable that these characters could even touch him. He was trained by Obi Wan, Fought in the clone wars as a general, defeated count douku, controlled celestial beings of the force, was trained by palpatine, fought entire armies alone, changed landscapes at will... I know it's plot armor, but Vader is just an unreal adversary for all these new characters

Vader literally every time he appears in a fight in games: -"Quick, call an ambulance!" -"But not for me."

Love the fact that they're using low camera angles, definitely giving us the feeling of being powerless when facing Vader.

Can we please talk about Scott Lawrence’s performance as Vader?? The man has it down to a science sand sounds just like James Earl Jones

In my opinion Matt Sloan is a better Vader voice actor, although he captures the young, rage filled Vader better than James Earl Jones' more older and more experienced Vader

Vader keeps killing me everytime, haven't been able to get to that last cut scene where he limps away yet.

Cere: I won. Vader: In your dreams. Return of the Jedi will take place 13 years later.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this but in the first phase of the fight he goes one-handed meaning he doesn't take the fight seriously but after getting set on fire he goes two handed when he takes the opponent seriously very cool attention to detail for Vader

I love it how Vader just walks away like that. It looks so unnatural of him 😭😭 But, he did just ALMOST die, so... 😭😭

@@cfwoods04 That last blow WOULD've been brutal if Vader were to not grab/ influence her trajectory by using the force. From both of their reactions, it looked like that would've been a killing blow in a normal sith/Jedi duel... UNFORTUNATELY for Cere, Vader is so powerful with the force, normal duel rules just don't apply to him

@@magentaplatinum1430 any hit from a lightsaber has the ability to be lethal, but with the difference between cere and vader in every way fighting wise I highly doubt vader ever had a moment we he thought “oh she almost got me”

@@cfwoods04 you've got a point. btw, isn't Vader's cape lightsaber-deflecting or smth? anyhow, if anything, I think he was playing along all throughout until the very last moment. palpy style twist-flip!! woohahh!

These kind of battles shows, that they really really really want to have you kill Vader. Since he is such a mega-badass villain. Then someone in the background points out, that doing so would instantly render the game/path non-canon. So in last second they have to make you auto-lose the fight, or have him captured alive.

Definitely preferred the first game's version where he's not a boss battle, he's a force of nature horror villain you can only hope to run from. Vader should be so far above the Force users in this game that he'd crush them without much effort at all.

@@simonsalgueiro6217 Personnally, what I would like to see is Darth Vader as a boss, but he is like *immortal* Like he block every attack, he fight nonchalantly, maybe you can make him lose 5% of is life max and the challenge is to try your best to survive above 2 or 3 minutes haha

@@simonsalgueiro6217 Yeah, well, the new breed of writers seem to think George Lucas was a joke. Years of training under a Jedi Master and practising your skills in real life seems to all be nothing when a female protagonist takes charge. Then you can just do stuff. No need to train, no practice required. You can lift rocks, create a Forcefield around you, fly through space, whatever you want. It's the Marvel age of Star Wars.

I just love that Vader, even when he gets beat up like this sometimes, makes it look like all part of that plan and walks away like "aight I can go home now"

More hits and damage than Vader would have canonically taken, but still neat.

I played on the jedi master difficulty and I love how oppressive and harsh his damage is

It is. You have to constantly attack, and nail those parries everytime, otherwise you are dead.

​@@LakiStrikeYeah when I reached the second phase I thought I would be forced to actually learn how to parry. Thankfully there is a way to beat him by just dodging.

Just a reminder guys. Cere isn't someone you should sleep on, she was literally a Jedi master before order 66 thats why she was able to fight Vader for so long. Vader obviously still won but she gave him a tough fight. I personally love this scene.

It is when those Jedi masters are older and haven’t picked up their lightsabers in years. Fear makes a Jedi weak, Cere is not afraid in this fight. Toying with your opponents is a fucking horrible idea and Vader never learns his lesson every time and keeps getting hurt because of it. Care has had five years to train and re-sharpen her skills. Vader is not god no matter how much his simps want him to be. Vader is a broken man barely alive in a cold metal suit. He uses his pain and anger and it makes him a terrifying threat, but not unstoppable. We all knew Cere didn’t have any hope of winning the fight. I don’t think she did either. But it is damn impressive and speaks to her skill as a Jedi that she wounded the beast.

I love that the games and comics have made Vader as powerful as he was supposed to be

I like how he struggles to stand and walk off after the fight. Really emphasizes that he’s not invincible just very very strong.

You know Vader is actually taking you seriously when he's holding his lightsaber with both hands.

Can we talk about how effortless vader shifts from lightsaber combat to force combat? Whenever cere had a genuine chance at landing a good blow on him, he just gracefully but briefly extends his hand, and force pushes her back to stop her and then continues his swordplay? It really shows how the aggressiveness of anakin is still there, but in a much more controlled and effectively way
