I`m a big Lockyer fan but I just don't think he was talented enough to be an immortal. I think Wally Lewis was a better number 6, and Billy Slater, Greg Inglis and maybe even Jarred Hayne are better full backs. Lockyer was a great bloke and good footballer but no immortal.

Yeh. I agree. As far as I'm concerned, he was the second best five eight in the history of the Broncos. One behind Wally Lewis.

Im from sydney and follow brisbane simply because of my love for darren lockyer and the mark he has left on the broncos and NRL.. Sure you can say jarryd hayne is faster bigger and scores more tries but he has had 2 good years in his 5+ years playing. Darren has won multiple premierships led the most succesful origin team for 5 straight years and has been a legend abd respected man. Always fair, always courageous unlike hayne the brat. Lockyer for next immortal, thurston after that.

To be there for the last game you played for the Broncies v Dragons when you landed that wobbly field goal just out from full time with the fractured cheek - then letting the crowd onto the field - what a memory. The most respected man in NRL, true legend

Wow, I would never have thought an Adele song could match a Darren Lockyer highlights package. This gave me goosebumps, really makes you remember and appreciate how good Lockyer was. He was the best fullback in the world and he became the best 5/8th in the world, 2006 being his magic year. Loved it how in his younger days he could weave and run on 45 degree angles. Lockyer = Legend.

A champion in two key positions fullback and fiveeight for Broncos, Maroons and Australia, no other player achieved in rugby league history. Could any player match him for that elusiveness of movement and slight of step? Don't think so. He read the game better than anyone, graceful as a gazelle, never panicky under pressure and a player's player. None compare to this bloke, who had the game covered in every single aspect - attack, defense, goal kicking, general kicks in play, massive dropouts and long-range field goals that left you with jaw agape. Audacious and brave. An awesome compilation of video. Well done!

I have personally met Darren twice, he is a true gentleman, icon and ambassador for the sport, humble, giving and always willing to share. A true Broncos and Qld legend for all ages and all time - having known Wayne Bennett and been involved with his son Justin on a care basis I cannot praise Locky anymore than Wayne himself, I will never forget Wayne’s comments of “Locky being one of a kind, a true league mastermind and great person wrapped up in the one package” Darren is a true legend of league that will never be forgotten among very few immortals. I say this and rate him higher than my great distant relative “Graham (Changa) Langlands” - your one of a kind Locky

Im a rugby union player and supporter. But have always watched Darren Lockyer and admired such brilliance and grace he played with, then off the field complete gentleman.

I don't know a single person that has ever said Darren Lockyer isn't good enough, not only is he one of the best if not the best rugby league player of all time, he is also a true gentleman and a great team leader. I would do anything to be like him. Go Lockyer!!!

Locker wasn't the best player of all time. Inglis, Slater and Hayne are all better fullbacks than Locky was. Wally was a better five eight too. Locky was up there in the top 50 to 100 greats but I wouldn't rate him any higher than that.

You're right. I think Darren Lockyer was a really nice guy. One thing I really admire about Locky was that he was never a dirty player. He never resorted to any grubby tactics. I was very disappointed with Jonathan Thurston last Origin game when I saw him doing a few cheap shots here and there, something Locky never did. I rate him as one of the nicest blokes in the game.

very true and i agree which is why many players have nothing but good words to say about him, he earnt a lot of respect from every player in the game not just his team mates! :) darren is awesome!

As a sporting leader of men I'd put this man up with the likes of Roy Keane, John Eales and Martin Johnson. Simply superb, a gifted individual who knew how to inspire and lead his players to be better than they thought they ever could be .

No one if memory is correct has ever mastered two key positions in rugby league like Lockyer did during his error. He was the known as the best full back and then the best five eight when he played in those two positions for Broncos, QLD & Australia. All good I was just saying there is another player who mastered two positions Sorta like Boyd (Clive Churchill medal as a fullback and multiple rep man of the matches at state and national level) But Locky is head and shoulders above

1 year has pass and I'm only now starting to feel his absence, especially after watching this video...damn :'(
