okay this is the only song in your beginning banjo content, so i am going to learn this or die trying. is this the easiest song you think someone should learn for their first song?

Man, in just a few hours of practice I was able to (sloppily) play this and even sing a little with it. I am so excited about this new creative potential. Blessings upon blessings to you brother! Thank you 🙏

Am I the only one that swoons while trying to watch and learn from Clifton's lessons? ^_^ I'll try to hide my blushing and focus on on my actual playing. You make the banjo sound so romantic! I love this version of Darling Cora! Thank you for your helpful lessons!

Thanks for sharing Clifton! Been picking around on this one in triple C for a couple of days now and now I've got to try this tuning. Much appreciated from the Heart of Appalachia "up o'var" in Charleston, WV

Like on "Same Old Man At The Mill" from Fred Price twisting those major notes into a minor dorian melody line just brings out the spice of the song .. Really natural thing to use a frettless and use those inbetween twisted notes .. LOve this Clifton ..So glad you are putting George out in the world all your can ... And I bet George and you do it a little different each time anyway ... just like the weather hits ... Yours Guy

Thanks for the lesson! After watching the George R Gibson video here a couple of times, I was hoping there'd be a lesson to get that tuning. In the Gibson video, my mind went right to Dink Roberts, that 4-5 deal he does on Coo Coo that gives it such a moody feel. Seeing Mr Gibson play this song with whatever that kind of eerie 1/2 step thing just lit my mind on fire! I'll calm down eventually, but man your channel is unbelievable.

This type of playing is where Travis got his picking idea from. Sounds great......

One of my favorite old traditional folk songs. Excellent interpretation and lesson. How are you able to tune your banjo down that far and still stay in tune and sound great? Heavier gauge strings maybe?

Thank you, I read somewhere that medium gauge red Aquila Nylgut strings are specifically designed for lower tunings on banjo. In fact if you try to tune to open G they will probably break. Not sure if any modifications need to be made on the banjo to use them. Seems worth checking out. There about $12 on e b a y

Can you explain whar order you are picking the strings in the very beginning (the order that keeps repeating) is it 2,1,5,1? I am too slow to be able to make it out, and have tried Repeatedly 😔 The plucking pattern that replaces (the clawhamer/ overhand stokes) Best i can guess is 2,1,5,1 but i cant get it right, amd don't know if im doing the right order🤷‍♂️

Clifton can you explain what order you are doing the general 2 finger roll pattern? Is it 2,1,5,1 like i know you replicating the stroking or (bum-dity) but i am having trouble seeing the general pattern you pluck them to do that🙁 Im not talking about the melody notes Just the right hand plucking order for the strings that keeps repeating as you do the melody notes...I get it is a thumb lead or something but can not for the life of me figure out what order you are plucking em? Maybe strings 5,2,1,5 .. 5,2,1,5?

is there a name for the relative tuning for this? like I thought it was double c but lowered step and 1/2, but double C says to use (C) on 2nd string and (D) on 1st (on my tuner app anyway) I just used double C then made my 1st string sound the way the 2nd one was tuned then lowered it. but i am still confused on what the name of tuning is if there is one? it just sounds so nice and i have no clue what it is called :)

Thank u 😊so much i have been struggling like all sin to learn your version. I have tried slowing the video and trying to see what strings vibrate but i can NOT quite tell what order u are doing the right hand background roll thingy. It seems like 2,1,5,1 ? But your fingers and thumb are SOO FAST😫😃 any way you can clear up the roll u do as u are hitting the melody notes😯😯😯❤❤❤

Thanks Clinton! Trying this on my guitar, I'm too cheap to tune strings up to EAEAAE, so first tried DGDGGD, not the correct intervals, but fascinating sound, now on to CGCGGC, correct intervals and original notes for the song, but the strings are all mixed up. This is fun as hell! Thanks again, Clifton. What other songs would you suggest playing with, with the "Darling Cora" tuning?

I'm in "triple C" gCGCC tuned down. It's not necessary to downtune, however, unless you have trouble singing at the modern standard pitch.
