Alex is aging very well. I think the grayish hair and beard fits him very well.

A lot of good one-liners and/or advice in this interview...
Alex Webster is an absolute beast at bass. Such an inspiration for not just Metal, but bass playing as a whole.

I agree. He is one of my biggest examples for (metal) bass playing. He is at an almost inhuman skill level that i will never attain, but at least i try to learn a lot from his style of playing. I am already happy with a small percentage of his technique 😉

Alex Webster was my Geddy Lee growing up. Such a monster musician and a chill dude.
If you ever get the chance to talk with Alex Webster, you won't regret it. He's really down to earth and thankfull for his fans. Great freaking dude!

Alex is seriously the coolest guy in metal, he's one of my biggest influences and very inspiring yet he's not stuck up or rude at all, the first time I saw corpse play he threw me a water bottle cus I was so thirsty. The second time he actually talked to me after they played and I hugged him it was so unreal actually meeting him and talking to him, I picked his brain on music theory and asked for tips on my own playing. Very awesome person and a legend in death metal in my opinion. Alex is cannibal corpse. Alex is death metal musicanship
damn, Alex with grey hair and beard kinda freaks me out. the boi's been looking 25 for like 15 years and now this

I met Alex yesterday in zurich-Switzerland C Corpse concert, took photos with him , ufffff unbeliveable my idol……..
Such a humble guy. Not just a bass role model, but a character role model.
it's always very interesting to listen some tips and advices from this man. Alex Webster is beyond amazing. A legend indeed.
Such a nice humble guy and an absolute beast on the bass, an example to everyone.
One of the nicest dudes in metal. \m/
Nice Wal on the wall.
Webster has had a huge influence on my technique. He's also insanely humble and a nice person all in all. What a chad.
Cannibal has never been a particular favorite band of mine, but man do I appreciate Alex Webster as an ambassador for death metal. Really like listening to him talk about the scene, bass playing, and anything really.
Great segment. I enjoyed seeing Alex Webster as I have grown up listening to Cannibal Corpse and have been a big admirer of his sound and playing since I was a kid. 20 odd years down the road I still love their music and appreciate chances such as this to see him talk about music. Thank you for the video. I look forward to seeing future interviews with other artists as well.
Really inspiring and eye-opening discussions, thank you so much for this. Can't wait to see more of this stuff, Alex is the perfect first guest for this segment, Cheers !
Alex is such a nice guy. Amazing interview, Darkglass!
I like his music, his instructional Book/CD, and the fact that he’s not disrespectful to people’s religious beliefs...the Spector Basses are awesome, too. The man is a serious musician.
This is so good. I met Alex during the Conquering Dystopia tour and Alex was such a great guy. Very nice and friendly. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this.
Alex has one of the most refreshing personalities of anyone in metal, and interviews like this are a fantastic display of it. Add on top of that his writing ability, both lyrically and musically, his enthusiasm for his craft, and his love of the fans. The guy is such a wonderful example of what we should all strive for.
Great podcast, keep em coming.
Great podcast! Very good opportunity to know more about Alex, I think he doesn't post many things on social networks and this podcast allow us to know more about him, thanks for that.
love this great interview
I could listen to Alex speak for hours and it would still be interesting.
Saw him in person once and just had to shake his hand. Sadly, they were on a hurry and didn't stop much, since it was an international show (Brazil). Hope I can see him again and say thanks once more
Alex is just a genuine human being. Have always had a tremendous respect for him.
I'm wearing the exact same shirt as Alex right now. They were playing at Gefle Metal Festival this year and they kicked ass.
Podcast! Great idea! 👍
This video came almost 5 years ago and I had no idea he answered my question that's so awesome
BASS HERO!
This was such a wonderful interview. I hope that one day I will have a quarter of his knowledge and wisdom. BTW I'm loving my b7k!
Alex is so awesome and so down to earth !! one of the best
Truly brilliant bass player and all round nice guy..

Such a class act. Love Alex.
awesome! Alex Webster number 1 !!!
CC played in my town a few weeks ago and man, Alex Webster is not just a great bass player but a great human being. He was very kind and humble with me and my friends when we went over to the hotel to take some pictures with the band, he even said "Hey I recognize you from the concert! That was wild!". I used to like CC a lot, and now I love them even more.
This video is entertaining and very informative. When you talk about people looking up to Alex like he looked up to Billy Sheehan etc. when he was 14, his response is great. I think it's awesome to see how he never forgot that he was in the same position at some point. I remember previous interviews where he takes time to shoutout some underground bands he thinks deserve more fame :) Btw, there was talk of an Alex Webster signature product being developed by Darkglass. Is there any update on this? Thanks!
I’m a guitarist and this man is still an influence to me. Such a badass
Awesome format, and a legendary guest! Keep it up, Douglas! It would be also great to see and hear Amos Williams and Jon Stockmann in the next episodes:)

Yeah the luck of them being in Ace Ventura is seriously in a million. They won the jackpot on that appearance and the way they were presented.

Matt van den Ham that was all thanks to Jim Carey. Having Cannibal Corpse appear was Jim's idea as he was a big Corpse fan. I remember reading that in a magazine that discussed the Cannibal Corpse cameo and how it came about.
Great Words !
Alex is such a cool dude!!!
Nice to hear from Alex after a long time. I went to see CC in Nosturi just a couple hours after this interview and I have to say that it was like they were performing in sauna!

Thanks for this video
Oh hell yes!!!!!!! This is just awesome!
Great interview!

Depending your level and assimilation . If you start , yeah , but with a balance that make the stuff funny to do , and all is new , even hard , so you practice and must practice hard and long . But when you re artist and play like for 15 years like i do , you practice regulary when you re inspired . Practicing bored forced mechanical exercices for 5 h a day to fuck up the brain is not good , you don't play better and your brain is not assimilating . You don't progress . But when you practice 2 , 3 hours a day some time , stop 3 days to 1 week , by burst then practice again , and you ll see a fresh maneer progress . And not repeating yourself . Personnally i do exercices for warmin up then play songs i made that are fun but challenging too , to the muscle memory stuff too then i improvise and search new things . In my own expression without looking outside . At home , i listen a lot I love metal , but i listen a lot of Big band stuff , Mahavishnu and tommy bolin . I don't listen just drummers . Im a composer too , so in my head , i dont think like a drummer . But the thing is as jazz i broke barreers between instruments concepts and arranging . It open doors more for developping original ideas Instead of looking to drummers only as drummer , or bass players as bass player , or Guitar players as ...so on.. It open doors to something different in your stimulation as artist that break with what everybody is doing , especially now .
Good interview!
I really enjoyed this
What an awesome T-shirt, Alex. :-D
its awesome that Alex wear the Gefle Metal Festival t-shirt from 2018 ! :-D
Alex has inspired me to pick up bass again. Got an Ampeg and B7K Ultra. Just waiting on my Spector to come in as long as fedex doesn't fail me.
yeah I always thought alex webster was badass on the bass and he's been one of my inspirational bass players . his timing is always on point and he can go through different scales with a quickness . its good to see that cannibal corpse is still running strong
I started with drums first in 6th grade. Took lessons for 3 years but just couldn't really get it. Sold my kit and picked up a bass 3 yrs after. Asked my parents for a bass in 1995. Been playing ever since. Not currently in a band, but in early 2000's got to open for Motorhead for 1 show. The career didn't happen for us. Didn't get the luck.
The wise death metal sage
Alex Webster is a bass genius and knows more about music than anyone I've seen
When he speaks about seeing Geddy Lee early in his bass playing it's so Ironic cause I also did yet no bigger influence on my playing was see CC at the Bomb Shelter in Manchester New Hampshire with The Black Dhalia Murder and we helped everyone load in as we were driving from Maine and got there hours early. Alex asked if we wanted to watch him warm up and I was in awe and inspired from that moment on.
that moment when you find out Alex likes No Doubt, nice
Absolutely love Alex. Saw Cannibal play at Bloodstock in the UK last week. They totally kicked ass! First saw them in the 90s in London. Met and spoke to Alex at a music store signing before that gig. What a lovely guy. Total gentleman and so humble. That memory will stay with me for the rest of my life. I've been watching live Metal bands now for 35 years, and never seen anyone better live than these guys. Death Metal legends, Long may they continue!!
1. Alex Webster 👑 2. Cliff burton 3. Les clay pool 4. Steve digiorgio 5. Geddy lee
Alex looks like a nice guy to hang out. It shocks me as well seeing him like that and with the beard. Lmao crazy
HELL YES
Other than mudvayne LD 50 all the album being my top favorite basslines, I’d personally say close to the edge Yes is my favorite! Alex super cool of you to mention Blaze!! X factor is actually one of my favorite maiden albums!! Probably because I was a early teen and just getting into Maiden at that point
My personal maximun inspiration. Thanks for this podcast/interview Subtitles in spanish will be perfect! (Sorry for my bad inglish)

These guys play such an insane type of music. But both Alex as well as Eric Rutan are such nice, friendly, intelligent guys.
Great thing the host said here: if you're tense, you start hurting your precision, your stamina. I'd love him to continue the thought: and once you're out of any precision, and then stamina and you don't stop - you start hurting yourself. And that's the road to end any fun.
Alex is the master !!!!
Geez we’re getting old Alex lol. Alex is so genuine, I swear he’s Canadian like me lol, well he is from Buffalo so close enough lol, relax my American friends I have a few great very polite American friends plus my sister is now American outside of Baltimore,Maryland, I’m still trying to work on her husband with hockey 🏒 LoL. Cheers 🍻 from Canada 🇨🇦
Legend
A Gefle Metal Festival shirt? Alex is awesome.
30C thats a chill spring temprature :D
Cool he likes no doubt.tony kanal is a badass with the bass.Tragic kingdom is ska pop with a little punk and on the track the climb its really jazzy.sounds amazing
Alex the gray Bass wizard extraordinaire I thought it was Martin van drunen at first when I was scrolling
He mentioned Dreamtheater!!! My man!! I was hoping Alex was going to mention John Myung! Myung is one of the best!!!
His hair has gotten flatter with each year; in the 90s with Barnes it was massive as shit! Irrelevant maybe, looking at the bands age, but no less brutal than when they began
He looks like a Viking warrior awesome
un capo desde donde se lo vea

It happened pretty quickly. Some people experience that. Y'know, they look 25 until they're 50 or 60 and then BAM, grey hair within a year.

Was he colouring it up 'til recently? This blew my mind, but I really don't follow CC daily. I'm 47 and my beard is as grey as Alex's.

He’s got a wife and dog, but no children. I respect that. Also, Alex is three months away from 50 man, you’ll go grey at that age. You can actually see him transition into wise old man if you compare pictures of him from 2009, then 2014, then 2017-18.
29:00 shout out our ol bassist Chris Japhet for having the biggest pedal board of us all in the band in ‘04
It is cool that he wears Gefle Metal Festival t-shirt 👕 🤘
Does alex brother play bass for the band Lamb Of God
What are the specs on that Wal? It looks like highly figured walnut facings.
Thanks for citing GOJIRA's Jean Michel LABADIE.
Alex is slowly turning into Otis from The Devil's Rejects
The best
An experimental bassist worth checking out is Doug Wimbish.
Alex is equally cool as he is talented.
I can't get over how much Alex sounds like Brian Reagan.
cool!
Holy fuck look at Alex Webster! I'm so FUCKING old.
