Alex Webster is the reason I started playing bass. Cannibal Corpse was my first concert. I was 12 or 13, some how ended up in the front of the pit right in front of him through the show and was absolutely mesmerized. I decided that night I would be a bass player.

Cannibal Corpse are just the nicest dudes in the world and Alex is a total class act. Intelligent, humble, always has time for people. I exchanged a couple of emails with him once and he was just happy to give a detailed answer to my dumb, nerdy bass questions that he's probably answered a million times. Cannibal forever!

I love how people see cannibal album covers and hear their music and just presume they’re a bunch of cavemen but then you listen to Alex (especially), or Paul or George, really any of the guys (rob to a lesser degree 😆) and they are all very thoughtful and intelligent. Cannibal is a perfect example of playing the kind of music you want as an outlet.

Ah I saw the US tour, so the band/bands with Corpse may have been different most likely. I looked up shows and set lists, if I could take a stab at the date and year possibly April 25th, 2003? They played in Vera (Groningen) then. Not that the date is vital by any means, seeing them open with From Skin to Liquid was epic regardless.

Alex acts like he isn’t one of the best bass players in the history of heavy music. “I’m still trying to figure out this 5-string thing in my lap.” Lmao Pretty sure you mastered the fuck outta that thing. If he wasn’t so consistently humble in every interview I’ve ever seen, I’d swear he’s saying stuff like that just to piss people off. It’s extremely rare to be that freakishly talented and somehow remain THAT humble.

good to hear such an accomplished bassist have the mentality that you're meant to do what sounds best for the music. a lot bassists and musicians as a whole feel like they should show off their library of techniques rather than just playing something simple or catchy. bassists can play root notes, guitarists can play powerchords, drummers can play a simple 4/4 straight up and down beat and it will be more likely to have actual impact than the most complex stuff. Look at Celtic Frost or Bathory.

He always stuck out in Cannibal Corpse because his bass playing. I always knew he was good but it was really cemented when I heard Tomb Of The Mutilated. His playing on that was exceptional on that album and he’s only gotten better with time.
