I'm not a huge fan of DS1 (started with later ones Fromsoft games so I'm more partial to them) but every couple of months I look up a new Dark Souls critique cause you can bet there will be a new one, and it'll be long, and it WILL hit different. People talking about their love of DS1 gotta be my favorite genre.

Fantastic video! I fell in love with Dark Souls in 2018 and haven't looked back since. The game is a masterpiece. However, because of its rushed development, I sometimes jokingly refer to it as a happy accident.

Another multiple hour retrospective on Dark Souls? NOM! For real though, I love seeing people’s insights and thoughts on Dark Souls, especially if they’re playing it for the first time recently. Elden Ring brought a lot of people into the series and was likely a lot of people’s first game.

I actually killed Capra Demon on my first try. It was by accident though. I panicked and ran up the stairs, and (somehow) managed to kill the dogs there. Then I fell off the stairs, but pressed attack (again, out of panic), and managed to do a plunging attack on the demon. Then it was just a continuous series of lucky dodges, blocks, and swings. It's the only boss (across DS 1, 2, 3, or Bloodborne) that I ever killed my first time. EDIT: Except Moonlight Butterfly

I am fuckin DIGGING KZread's algorithm lately. A 3+ hour Dark Souls retrospective is totally my vibe, got yerself a new sub buster. Out of all the Souls-Bourne games DS1 is by far my favorite, and the one that I come back to the most. Over 2000+ hours in it and I still come back every once in a while to sprint through the game bønking shit with the Great Club. It's just got that "je ne sais quoi" to it 🤌🤣

i will explain the headphone one. so, i didnt know what i was really doing, and i couldnt tell because my pc’s settings have it so audio is balanced on both sides of my headphones, so i can hear what happens on both sides. it will be fixed in my next vid. promise

Personally I like him keeping the full dialogue in. This is an exhausting video, not a quick one. The voice acting in DS is GREAT in general and really sets the atmosphere. I think it's perfectly fine to implement it into the video in the pace the devs intended for the voice acting to be heard :)

Maybe I was spoiled with elden ring gameplay but I didn't find most of the bosses enjoyable and some areas were ass to explore but do respect this game for where it stands

Izalith with the randomly copy pasted enemies and bed of chaos feeling like something that's just been thrown in there like fuck it, the game loses some points for that.

Love the video, love the style, I'm amazed at how few subs you have with the clear passion put into this project. My one criticism is that it feels like you'd stutter over your words sometimes and leave those takes in the video, instead of just trying again. 2:05:30 really stood out to me. But keep it up, dude, this is solid, and the pacing is great!

Not to be that guy but the darksign itself isn't Gwyn's sin or purposeful doing. Gwyn's sin is linking the fire; not allowing the world to proceed in it's natural progression, but to throw a wrench into the physics of the world. That was what caused the darksign to appear in humanity in an attempt to right itself. Aldia spells this out in Scholar of the First Sin. There is no escaping the fate of the world, and we see that in Dark Souls 3 with the convergence of time and space in the DLC. We also see how, no matter how many iterations there are, nothing new is being created. The same wheels are rolling, with different skins and different names, however, the motives and ability remain. And every time they are lesser than they were before. Even more of a reflection; more of a shadow of their former selves.

@@Krimsin01 I highly suggest you do a deep dive playthough of that game. It is by far the most lore filled and answer friendly of the trio. Easily my favorite souls game, and while I know that's a hot take, I've got good (imo) arguments to be made for some of the specific game systems involved and how they make for an extremely oppressive (and therefore difficult) experience. In addition to being a lore hunters dream, of course.

@@Krimsin01 you don't have to cover it, there's definitely more work in editing than just clip collecting / playing for your own enjoyment. But since you've played it already I suggest you look up a quest guide and try to do a story run for yourself. There's so much good stuff in that game.

After playing elden ring and coming back that gameplay isn't feeling that timeless at all. DS1 would be hugely improved by a remake that fixes the 2nd part of the game and makes it's gameplay faster like ds3 and elden ring.

I love the original gameplay personally. I can see why one would feel this way and I get it, respect your opinion. I Just personally disagree. However I would love for From Soft to go back and flesh out the second half, more DS1 would be awesome. However DS1 is my personal comfort game, it is the game I always go back to once every few months. I think it's perfect in its imperfections. I know a lot of people hype it up so much, but for me it really is that good.
