hearing this title with tears in my eyes, this is extraordinary, one of the greatest music, it contains everything, harmony, power, dissonances, with a beautiful orchestra and leader. Even it is not shown in everyone's face, the musicians like the story, they enjoy it to play, with a lot enthusiasm. This piece is one of my first I've played as second oboist in my career in my first amateur orchestra, in 1988, so I have a lot of fond memories when hearing it, with tons of emotions. I'd give 10000 likes extra, bravo!!

Superb rendering of an exciting work. Can't stay away - watched it at least 20 times in the last few months. Alondra is wonderful, her conducting a lovely performance of its own. Sensational orchestra and brilliant camera work too. Everything has come together in this experience of vitality and joy, truly a celebration of life.

The best interpretation ever of this work by Milhaud. Here all the South American rhythm shines through, enhanced by the Mexican Alondra de la Parra. And the orchestra supports her in a masterly way.

This music was composed for a theater piece..at our art school we made a reproduction of it..The theater design class..[1990 in Groningen NL]. It somehow needs the visual aspects to get the music fun...

Darius usou grandes temas nacionais quando esteve no Brasil. Foi um grande incentivador e admiradorda Música brasileira. Tem uma edição para violino e piano, extremamente complexa com uma atmosfera pré carioca dos anos 50. Bravos!

Q: What's the difference between Alondra de la Parra and Simone Young?...A: Alondra wears flat shoes as opposed to Simone's stilettos! We here in Australia are very happy and proud to now have these two WOMEN as chief conductors of two out of six of our State's symphony orchestras, while ratio wise, this must now be a world record! Great to see Alondra cutting loose here with the Parisians further to a bearded Lenny Bernstein's famous effort in the same work with the same band (also here on KZread) way back in 1976! ...As for the piece itself, Milhaud's fantastically orchestrated cross rhythm work is nothing short of miraculous and 'should' be payed over loudspeakers so as to get everyone dancing in the streets - and together! - once the COVID-19 is over!

in this piece, Milhaud quotes 14 brazilian composers, for instance, 1:00 is Marcelo Tupinamba's São Paulo do Futuro and 5:00 Francisca Gonzaga's Corta-Jaca

What a great piece this is. The original Melodies might not be Milhaud’s but how he put them together!! La mano de Milhaud no fue tanto en las melodias (que son autenticamente cariocas) sino en su tejido orquestal, partitura e invencion armonica.

I already knew of this work, but this is the first time I have actually listened to it. What a witty, sardonic, entertaining, creative piece of music, as well as being a great deal of fun! Great conductor and orchestra, too! She is certainly the most beautiful conductor I have ever seen, although that is irrelevant. Also, I am not sure, but I think the principal trumpet is playing a Vincent Bach Stradivarius model (made in the U.S.A.). I would not have expected to see that in a French orchestra.

Nunca había escuchado esta pieza y la he disfrutado mucho. La melodía por momentos hace evocar la samba "Tico Tico", pero el instrumento más destacado no es brasileño, sino caribeño: el güiro. Los aborígenes de mi país, Puerto Rico, lo fabricaban del fruto del totumo o güira; el de la orquesta está hecho en madera y no suena igual, pero como quiera me enorgullece que "mi" güiro se luzca en una obra tan hermosa. ¡Y la directora se la disfruta como nadie! ¡Excelente!
