And the trip to New Jersey did not age well!

I watched the Pittsburgh feed of this game and I always remember a bemused Mario interviewed afterwards, saying that they had to turn to their "sniper" to get the job done.

I felt bad that Hasek lost in Buffalo . But won 2 Cups in Detroit .

Hasek carried Buffalo to a few playoff runs that were deeper than they should have gotten with limited offensive star power, including a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 1999. The moment he goes to a good team, instant champion in 1 year with Detroit. 6 Veznia's in 8 seasons, was never surrounded by talented like Roy was, Hasek may be the greatest goalie of all-time.

I couldn’t stand the pressure and had to change the channel for a couple minutes. Switched back and Kasparaitis had just scored. Could hardly believe it it, but was very happy to say the least.

He was not at his top level the entire 2001 playoffs from what I could tell. He'd usually win a few games by himself but that never happened in this playoff year.

That wasnt interference just before the goal?

Clutching and grabbing like that was allowed back then. It made this era super low scoring and dreadful to watch.

Um interference much on the Sabre player?

Not back then. Different rule set, might as well have been a different sport.

If Buffalo wins this game I truly believe they would have beat the NJD. On the flip side, I don’t think Buffalo beats Colorado. I also don’t think they push the Avalanche to 7 like NJ did. They lost in 6 two years prior to Dallas. I see something similar if the matchup had been BUF COL. Man, I forgot how consistently good Buffalo was in the later 90s 97 - Lost as the 2 seed to the 3 seed Philadelphia 4-1 in Conf Semis 98 - Lost CONF finals 4-2 Washington 99 - Lost SC to Dallas 4-2 (trip OT G6) 00 - L CONF QTR FINALS 4-1 Philadelphia 01 - L CONF SEMI FINALS 4-3 PITT, up 3-2 lost game 6, and 7 in OT. 02 - MISSED THE DANCE
