When you really get down to it Daredevil was the only Marvel Netflix show that can really continue obviously Luke Cage and Iron Fist are gone. The thinking come together and wrap up both of their individual storylines with one season of a show called hero4hire similar to The Defenders but only have Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Jessica Jones has to have a phenomenal season three otherwise they show will be dead in the water cuz the second season was very underwhelming. Daredevil..... The only time I've seen Daredevil being negative was in The Defenders and that was because he wasn't the main character he was a side character to Iron Fist. I just finished season 3 of Daredevil myself and in all honesty I believe that Daredevil can have two maybe three more seasons depending on what they do with the story and the characters

I really hope u reply to this to learn ur opinions on both of these shows but... What are your overall thoughts on Daredevil and Arrow by season? For DD, in order would be 3, 1, 2 mostly because a) 3 was firing on all barrels, pacing never really dragged for me, and felt like 13 episodes weren't bloated unlike seasons 1 and 2, and b) because the Hand plot kinda dragged with it its action sequences that for the first time in the show made me wanna skip 'em... The consistency in season 1 with its streamlined plot slightly puts it above season 2 for me. For Arrow, I don't know your full thoughts on Arrow as a whole, only the negatives, but some aspects work for me since a) I grew up with it since 2010 before I saw Daredevil and b) Arrow does filming near where I live and I've had the chance to see them filming up close this past few weeks. In quality order would be 2, 1/5, 6, 3, 4. Seasons 1, 2, 5, and 6 are why I'm still putting faith in the show as there are indeed some episodes that really show some excellent writing and superhero action: my personal favourite that shows some of the best writing and acting has to be Kapiushon.

Actually, it is surprising how many similarities they share. Like BvS, DD season 2 introduces a more violent character, without superpower, to a series with someone more idealistic, shows media's reaction to the characters, have tensions between both characters, the more violent character is victorious(at least initially in Punisher's case), they overcome their differences and team up at the end, sequel bait( Kingpin in prison vs the Justice League characters' cameos), a wildcard female character who seems to enjoy fighting(Elektra vs Wonder Woman), darkness, and they both end in a funeral. Some of these similarities can be chalked up to genre tropes and similar source material (Frank Miller wrote TDKR and classic Daredevil). The difference I suppose is that BvS is a pretentious mess ashamed to admit it's about superheroes, Daredevil has more time to develop things naturally and Daredevil respects its characters/source material. In conclusion, fuck the DCEU.

That's a great start. If ever you get the chance, I highly recommend Born Again, again by Miller

8:00 Daredevil wasn't crying in that scene.Charlie Cox said that it was the sweat pouring down from his cowl because he had to carry Jon Bernthal up that hill several times in a row. But he likes it that people interpreted it as crying. Fun fact.

I wont even try, S1 is Dark Knight level if you think deeply about it. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but ultimately those 2 entries are the best live action stuff that ever came out. I hope that S3 will be even greater.

I disagree that Gotham should have been this. Also it's meant to be campy. It's campy and dark like the Burton films and even BTAS which had it's fair elements of camp. Further Gotham is more about the city itself, as the name suggests, as opposed to one man's crusade. Bruce is just another character in Gotham and the biggest character is the city and how it changes people. This way all the characters get to shine and feel relevant. It has the best ensemble of villains in any live action superhero show ever, some great homages to the comics and entertainment value. I won't argue for which is better but I will say Gotham doesn't have to prove itself by comparison to Daredevil. It's proudly and superbly it's own thing and that's why it's great.

I fucking love Daredevil! Also, the tear which streams down Daredevil's face, is a happy accident. That was Charlie Cox's sweat (collecting under his helmet) dripping down his face since he had to carry Bernthal to the tombstone for multiple takes.

Very true. Those three are the best of the best. Superman and Spectacular Spider-Man could arguably be added to a Big 5. (Not Spider-Man PS4 though, it's a great game but everything with Miles, Yuri and MJ really lowered the whole thing).

See I respectfully disagree with your opening statement, I thought season 1 of Jessica Jones was fantastic, with a villain that was arguably more engaging the hero, whos motives and ability to manipulate felt very grounded in a very odd way. KillGrave was one of the best MCU villains right up there with Thanos, everything he did was incredibly captivating, and he was creepy, and when watching it I did not know what he would do next, and part of this is due to David Tennants masterful performance.

Totally agree. JJ S1 is a masterpiece and that, along with Daredevil, are the best Superhero shows in my book. While season 2 was very messy, I believe and really hope that season 3 will put it back on its track

I think the video makes a bad case of the CW shows, I like a good chunk of them, Like Arrow season 1 and 2 were great, along with season 1 and two of the flash being spectacular, and feel very distinct from one another. That being said they are so different in tone than say the Flash

you need to watch it, its got the grounded elements of Daredevil that I like, and it is a bit more real in a violence and gore sort of way.

This was even before season 3 the best season.

It's the only Marvel Netflix show I've seen more than once...three times, in fact. Jon Beranthal gives Castle something missing from previous versions: vulnerability. Yes, he can kill you with his bare hands but all the things he's done and experienced have taken a toll on him psychologically. He's every bit as broken as Kingpin.

Johnathon Haney Both Iron Fist and JJ were boring as fuck for me. However, IF is objectively worse in all aspects, from the writing to the action. JJ was pretty well written from what I remember, with an amazing villain, but it was very uninteresting, only thing that kept me going was Kilgrave. That’s true though, JJ isn’t for me because from what I’ve heard, it’s more of a character study/drama than anything, not exactly a conventional superhero show. But that’s what I want, a superb superhero show with great storytelling, action, and execution, and that’s what Daredevil is to me. JJ and DD maybe equals but each one is in a genre of their own.

Unpopular opinion: Season 1 was WAY better than season 2. Carry on.

@@RobyFN2169dtf to be honest when the punisher was introduced i was so excited it trumped all of the season 1 stuff. but yeah S1 would still beat S2 overall. The punisher series is also fantastic. very satisfied.

Daredevil is undoubtedly the best superhero show ever made though, no denying that, it’ll be a long time before another show can come around to top its quality of actor, story, and realism. But I’ll be honest in that you hold the CW shows to a standard they can never meet. The CW Arrowverse is cable tv and like basic cable tv a certain quota has to be met, a quota that usually involves 20-23 episodes (not good for proper storytelling), actors that come cheap (I.e. they’re not that good), and a story format/formula that is easy to follow (I.e. the sameness of the shows). Although sameness isn’t something I’d say is 100% true, while they’re filmed the same, each show has a certain tone to it; Arrow is wannabe dark/edgy, Flash is classic comic book show in tone and outlandish almost like I’m watching a Silver Age comic, and Legends is pure fun cheese and they totally recognize who they are and role with it making it a fun show with out of this world crazy sci-fi that the 50s lived on. I lower my standards when I watch those cause I do at least generally enjoy seeing some of my favorite characters in a weekly format that I get to spend my weekday nights watching. Hell those shows introduce me to characters I never would have known about or be interested in to begin with, Constantine being chief among them in showing me the beauty of the Hellblazer Comics. These shows are one of the few reasons I still watch cable tv (although I do love me some Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Cause at least I can benefit from watching something that isn’t another cop drama or some stale standard laugh track oriented comedy that makes up the bulk of tv.

But even worse is the fact that they continually use these triangular love affairs, so that soon everybody in the gang of friends has been With each other. And then Wash, rinse, repeat. They are clearly made for a teen audience, because it's raging hormones that dictates what happens, rather than the existential issues that define Daredevil.

Something that blew my mind about Daredevil was the fact that in the first season you can tell he is getting better at fighting episode by episode, some KZread video i watch showed a jumping kick he attempts and fails at in the first ep which he later tries like 6 eps later and he pulls it off perfectly. Such a great detail

This is a great video essay and I also agree that Daredevil is absolutely amazing to perfect, but I also think that FX's Legion shares the number one spot with DD. It is completely original, it has a great antagonist and great dialogue, but instead of being grounded in reality it is absolutely crazy and weird and also has standout sequences in every episode. After watching this video it almost feels like these two couldn't be any more different but are somewhat similiar in the sense that they masterfully achieve what they're trying to be. Just my opinion, but I simply don't want people to think that Legion is a standard superhero show :D Loved the vid and can't wait for S3

I am a very big DC hero fan but you are absolutely right about this one. Daredevil is authentic. While the DC and some other marvel shows lack the substance and good direction daredevil has.

My personal favorite Daredevil moment is when he fights Nobu in the warehouse and Daredevil lights Nobu on fire.

Arrow used to have it's own distinct feel in season 1. Story structure, cinematography, color scheme everything was in line with Green Arrow. I really want to get this back *One day later* The new season is going to be awesome. Arrow is great again. The shower fight was fucking brutal

Even season one of Arrow wasn't that good(in my humble opinion). Season 1 of Arrow tries so hard to be edgy, and it really just feels like The Dark Knight trilogy on a cheaper budget. It never was great.

This, Doom Patrol and Watchmen for me are the best superhero tv shows.

Daredevil is utterly superb. It's so well made that you forget it's a TV show. Feels like a 13 hour movie instead. Casting choices, acting performances, action sequences and writing are all first class.

Also cool shirt! It's a reference to Mark Waid's run in the comics.

But JJ Season 2 was not good. The thing about the other Marvel netflix series is, that they could not keep their quality level or be consistent. Daredevil kept its quality for three seasons now while the others struggled to keep the quality up for one whole season. The Punisher season one was great, no disagreement here, but we still need a 2nd season to see if they can keep it up. Daredevil is just superior in every aspect: Casting, cinematography, dialogues, storytelling, fighting scenes, atmosphere etc.

JJ Season 1 is too bloated in my opinion, the story has filler plotlines because they have a ridiculous 13 episode run time. 13 hours of what amounts to a handful of story arcs is too much, the shows except Daredevil should be lowered to 8 episodes. Force the directors to only keep the best parts of the story. Shows what am I talking about JJ is the only one left now.

Season 3 is without a doubt some of the best TV I have seen in a long long time.

I'm just gonna say it, Daredevil Season 3 was the best live superhero adaptation I have seen after The Dark Knight. I felt every emotion the show was trying to convey. Damn TV show at it's finest.

Season 2 episode 3. Really cool moment for Foggy talking down those gang members in the hospital, the confrontation on the roof with Punisher and Daredevil (Taken from a moment I hated from a Garth Ennis Punisher book I otherwise liked, but they turn the scene on its head in a really cool way.), and the best fight scene in the show all in one place.

I keep ranting on and on about how fucking perfect this show really is. The emotions portrayed, the story telling, the characters and the picturisation is PERFECT. It's something I can still not describe in words. This isn't just a show, it's an emotion, a parallel dimension in it's own, it's an alternate reality that you can feel penetrating right through your soul. I wish for many many more seasons to come. And I'm literally dying for Daredevil Season 3 😭😍

going back to this essay bc i just miss that one hell (no pun intended) of a show.

Agents of SHIELD is still my favorite Marvel show to date, with great team dynamic and villains that put the movies to shame. But Daredevil is also a favorite of mine. And if I'm being honest, I'm more hyped for AoS Season 6 and Daredevil Season 3 than I am for Avengers 4. I'd put AIDA, Grant Ward, and Wilson Fisk among my top MCU villains any day of the week.

Great stuff. Thanks for explicating an outstanding show. The Netflix Daredevil also does little things to remind us where in this special world like when Punisher realizes DD has heard things he's said far away in a whisper. And having a super hero like Punisher refer to DD as "Red." Just a perfect touch that humanizes the character.

DD season 1 is an almost perfect season of TV. Season 2 suffers a bit with the ninja army/The Hand storyline, but the episodes that focus on the Punisher are fantastic.

Daredevil is infinitely better than any other Netflix MCU show, but I'd disagree with it being the best comic book show. While it took a while to get going with a slow S1, I'd say Agents of SHIELD is still one of the best things to come out of the MCU and beats Daredevil as the better show. Even though it seems to start slow due to the episodic nature of the first few episodes, once the Winter Soldier tie-in starts the show only gets better, and looking back every episode always built more of the foundation that was to come in future seasons. Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD with Ghost Rider and LMDs was outstanding; easily one of the best Seasons of TV I've ever seen. Agents of Shield is an adventure show, with the characters being its heart. Without its characters it's nothing, and thankfully the character development and storytelling are top notch. I personally rate the show as one of my all time favourites, and my highest rated comic book show. The Netflix shows are decent, Daredevil S1/2 are great (with the show dropping in quality once the Hand become the big bad in S2), but AOS is just so much more fun, better written, and a whole lot more consistent in quality comparatively.

You didn't really touch on the fact that the main reason for Daredevil's fights being leagues ahead of the CW's fight scenes is because, well, they actually hired a stunt choreographer for Daredevil... I'm pretty hand-to-hand combat on CW superhero shows are either improvisational, or just handled by someone who simply doesn't usually shoot or direct fights.

You'll never see a crime boss as the villain of a Marvel movie, because a crime boss won't fare well against Thor, Iron Man or Captain America. Daredevil can fight, Iron Man can obliterate. So you kinda need a more mythological villain in those movies. Agree on the other stuff, DD is amazing.

The punisher is what made season 2 of Daredevil work. If not for Frank it would have sucked, I also think it has some pacing issues.

DD is the golden standard for comic book TV

I mean, yeah, I recognize it, daredevil is miles ahead in terms of storytelling visuals and I love it to death, but that doesn't mean you have to hate the CW. They represent a part of the craziness of comics some of us love so much, and the fact that they're repetitive, cheesy or low-budget sometimes make it all the more endearing. There has also been amazing stories out of the arrowverse (Arrow season 1,2) (flash S1) (even legends S2)

Agents of Shield is the Best comic book show of all time. At this point, Agents of shield has done more creatively than daredevil. To be fair, Daredevil has 3 seasons under its belt. But agents of shield has constantly given viewers so much with so little and that within itself is impressive. Daredevil hasn't done nearly enough to be better than AOS season 4.

But even still it doesn't compare remotely to the rest of the cw shows where they tend to weigh heavy on romantic relationships and villain of the week black lightning has an argument as it's focus and skews toward several episodes carrying a similar theme instead

For me Daredevil will always be the second best thing Marvel did, first being Agents of SHIELD.

Awesome video man, I just started rewatching Daredevil in prep for season 3. That hallway fight in season 1 really is something special, it’s my favorite on-screen superhero moment of all time

Daredevil is my favorite marvel show on streaming and gotham my fav on tv. I think the show don't get the credit that deserve. It has their own style, the actors are amazing and it's comicbook realnessss. I love that daredevil stay "serious" and realistic but i love that gotham play with the batuniverse and the ridiculous aspects of the comicbook narrative. ICONIC shirt, btw.

"It fucking destroys them" sounds to me an awful lot like "I haven't actually been watching Agents of Shield." ;) Was kinda hoping for an argument for why you think that Daredevil was better than other marvel shows, rather than the CWverse and its completely different set of ideas and tonal choices, but the closest that this gets is a sarcastic comment about Iron Fist.

fun fact, the tear that daredevil sheds isn't really a tear but sweat from charlie cox after having to carry jon berthanl for a couple of takes, but it looked good so they went with it.

To me, the only other superhero show thats on par with Daredevil is Agents of Shield. Good characters, good stories, good surprises. Black Lightning is pretty good too.

Black Lighting is absolutely horrible. I didn't watch past half way through the first season, but from what I did watch there was story telling that made Flash look amazing, and the acting was horsedick.

@Colby S AOS has done more creatively than Daredevil. DD only has 3 seasons at this point. And AOS has done it with a smaller budget which is creative in its own.

I still consider Season 1 of Daredevil to be the best season. The Punisher stuff in Season 2 is top notch, but the thing that lowers Daredevil for me is The Hand. I FUCKING HATED THE HAND. It damaged Daredevil Season 2, it weaken The Defenders, it pretty much killed Iron Fist. Without seeing a single episode I can tell that Daredevil Season 3 will be infinitely better than Season 2 because The Hand won't be there, And the Punisher stuff in Season 2 was incredible. I'm EXCITED for Daredevil Season 3, but The Hand, for me, holds it down. In ALL of the MCU Shows, my favorite is Agents of SHIELD. It did have a rough start, like most shows, but once Episode 17 of Season 1 (the writers had to stall big time to wait until Winter Solider came out) came around there was uptick of quality that never faltered. Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD is how to do 20+ episode seasons right. That is just my opinion though.

I completely agree first time Ive seen someone who has the same point as me. Season 2 with Punisher was great, but Elektra and the hand all this mythical shit ruined it for me, just not good at all. It no longer felt grounded in somewhat reality.

While I agree with you that Daredevil is the BEST superhero show, I still think it's unfair to compare it to the CW shows in this manner. Everyone loves to dog pile on the supposed bad quality of the DC-CW because it's so easy to do so, but if one really did watch any of the shows, they'd know the real reason why their reputation tends to lean more negative, even though all of them are enjoyable in their own right.To begin with, DC-CW shows are 23 episodes, and they've been on the air a lot longer than daredevil s1 ,so there is bound to be some overlap and forgetting from the ever-changing staff on which story lines they've used and which they haven't (as you know, Arrow is on season 7 and daredevil is on 3). Each show has it's own tone, colours, and themes to varying degrees - Arrow is darker, both in colour and themes, and they attempt to present the show in a much more cinematic way (at least in season 1-2) and Flash is usually lighter and cheesier. Granted, the reliance on the quirky group of friends formula is inexcusable, but seems to be getting better each season. When you look at the Marvel-Netflix shows as a whole, they all use the same colour pallet and rely heavily on the tone daredevil sets for their world. I think that's the issue - None do it as well as Daredevil can, and often times these tonal shifts don't work for superheros like Luke Cage or Iron Fist imo. As well, you compared the first scene of the first episode in arrow s5 to a sick ass fight scene in Arrow S1 episode 5. How is that even a remotely fair comparison? Don't get me wrong, I agree with you on the premise of the video alone, but your bias is WAY too heavy for my taste.

Please do a "review or rant" on Arrow . I love season 1 and 2 (They are by far my favorite seasons of any tv-show!) , but hate 3 and 4, 6. 5 was good but not as good as 1 and 2

I personally feel Daredevil season 2 is a better show about Punisher than the Punisher show itself. It doesn't overstretch his arc. It doesn't do (as much) unnecessarily long boring side-stories(Lewis, the Micro's son being a cringey bully family, Madani, some of the stuff with Bill Russo,etc.). I admit that some of the events in the last 2 episodes were exciting, but a lot of time is wasted, and he retires from Punisher like 2 times in that show. Honestly, it suffers from some of the same problems as Iron Fist, but some really badass scenes (mostly later on though) and the main character redeem it.

Before watching this, I wanna share what I think: - When The Flash first came out, it was my favourite TV show - season 1 & 2 were absolutely great; but since season 3 & 4, I've liked it less and less. - Then I started to watch Arrow (I started late where season 3 was airing) and really enjoyed it, but I still preferred Flash... until now, where I think Arrow is way better. - Daredevil since season 1 was and still is great, and it's just as good as it was when it first came out. It's probably my overall favourite superhero TV show. To conclude: - On average, Daredevil is my personal favourite superhero TV show, since it's reliably been great and hasn't had a one off crappy season. - Then I'd say Arrow is just as good as Daredevil most times, but some seasons such as 3 & 4 are absolute garbage, therefore overall, Daredevil is better. - Season 1 & 2 of The Flash were really good - just as good as Daredevil and Arrow - but season 3 & 4 are probably the worst of the worst. (season 4 was a bit better, but still crap) My overall favourite single season of any superhero TV show would have to be Arrow season 5. Also, I really enjoyed the first season of The Punisher but since it's only had one season, I'm saving my conclusion on that for until I have more to make an opinion on. Any superhero TV show I haven't mentioned is crap. If I haven't mentioned it, it's because I tried watching it and gave up because it was shit. The ones I just mentioned are (in my opinion) the only ones worth watching.

I actually LOVE all the Marvel Netflix shows. They are all awesome.

Undoubtedly Daredevil is the best show....What are your thoughts on Gifted...

Completely in agreement on this assessment of Daredevil. I do think that the second season falters with the introduction of the Hand and Elektra and anytime the show does not focus on this aspect, it's so much more interesting. That being said, no love for Legion? It's one of the most visually inventive shows I've ever seen and truly feels like an acid trip on the telly.

I (personally) would even say that Daredevil is one of the best shows in general

I would put Agents of Shield as my favorite Marvel Tv show, but Daredevil is the more well made one, clearly. Season 1 is basically a masterpiece. But Agents of Shield’s writing surpasses Daredevil and you care more about the characters in Shield, not hating on Daredevil at all.

Dean Searle It’s genius that they thought to split a 22 ep season into 3 parts that each had their own storyline, while all being apart of one story. That method should be used more often in other Tv seasons to literally delete the tv show pacing problem

@@alexbloedow372 i think they should do this with 13 episode shows as well. Have 3-4 episode arcs that all weave into the season's overall theme. They did it a little bit with the punisher in S2 but after that got resolved, that's when s2 got messy. How did you find S5? I still thought it was great and paid off well but the story pods were longer and did feel it at times. Especially the space one. Plus its just hard to beat a plot involving Ghost Rider, body switching robots and The Matrix.

Dean Searle For me, Daredevil Season 2 didn’t have the oomph that Season 1 had. It was still good in the Punisher and Elektra parts but I found it almost equal as Luke Cage Season 2. They both have awesome moments and character work. The dialogue in both seasons are insane. The endings for both are also really good.But the plot is hard to follow and feels like they are both lack the great factor. For AOS S5, I think the writing in it is amazing. The first two episodes are written like they are just thinking of the most insane and mind blowing stuff and just putting in it. But then it slowed down in space, besides the Fitz episode, because Hunter is the best character in the MCU. The last few episodes of space are good, and it gets better when they get to 2018. It basically peaks at the 100th episode, in the Mike Peterson scene, then somehow continues to blow you mind every episode except for the few episodes with the Ruby plot line, that stuff isn’t that great. But then the last 5 episodes are the best part of the season and incomprehensible. The way they use Infinity War is crazy. I think it’s almost at the same level as Season 4, just not as well put together. The budget is still a factor, the gray hallways are a problem in space, but not in Earth. The fact that the opening shot and the closing shot are the same shot is the icing on the cake. I’d rank the seasons 4,5,3,2,1. I really like the first half of 1, despite how episodic it was. 2 and 3 are basically the same season, but 3 does more for the show.
