Nice piece of history , I can also give you a bit more about the two network rail dmu’s. I remember them at Severn tunnel junction before they ended up at Cardiff Canton purely for spares for ATW’s bubble car 121032. Which ran on the Cardiff bay line for several years until Arriva deemed it no longer viable to run the bubble car mostly because of maintenance issues it was then transferred to Chiltern rail . But while they were at canton for spare parts I removed one of the engines from one of the network rail cars , not sure which vehicle but I guess its the one they have no plans to restore and that said engine I put underneath 121032 . That’s my claim to fame hope you enjoy..

Hi Richard, Nice look back in time of the Class 121 Cars...! Dapol have made a cracking job of this once popular mode of transport. Dapol’s Arriva is a brilliant model. 👍Thumbs Up 👍

Hi Richard enjoyed the video and the history of these locos. Hattans also sell a model of W55024 in maroon which ended its main line service as a sandite unit until being sold to Chinnor and Princes Risborough railway. I was lucky enough to work on that unit for 3yrs converting it back to passenger service. I’m happy to say it is now back in traffic. Needless to say I purchased a model of W55024 to remind me of happy days working on the actual loco. Had an issue with the drivers cab steps catching on the bogie and derailing on curves going in the direction of No1 end. This was quickly sorted out by filing a little of the steps which is hardly noticeable.

Nice video and enjoyed the introductory talk. I have a Class 122. Supplied with sound, stay alive, interior lighting, driver at both ends and passengers. Had stay alive because I have seen a video or two which mention hesitation over the s and c work. You can see it on my channel - Browndale Heritage Railway if you like. Supplied by Oliviers Trains Sheffield. Cheers John.

Great video Richard. Love the different take on closer inspection, like how you went to the preserved railway to look at the engine as well. Surprised you got to ecclesbourne valley railway with the amount of flooding around there at the minute. Hope this format is here for the long term and can't wait for the next video Regards, James

Interesting to see these in different liveries, rather than the usual BR green and blue. Worth remebering, in BR days, these weren't only found on the Western Region, they were fairly common in Scotland too and turned-up in some odd places, in odd formations. I've even seen one, in service, sandwiched between two driving cars. This made for a powerful set but, of course, no access between coaches.

I really like the way you have put this video together and with all the history of Class 121. I didn't know that they were made that a long time ago. I hope you will do more of these videos, of course, there is the cost going to visit where ever Train of Locomotive is. I do have two class 101's? The Diesel Rail Car. One is from the early 60,s with a centre coach and a more modern one with head code lighting. I saw a video yesterday using the same technic at the start and finish of the video. I think it sort of spoils it, but that is just my opinion. Martin (Dhaka, Bangladesh)

Good piece of history, i can add to that . I remember them at seven tunnel junction before they were taken to Cardiff canton for spares for 121032 my claim to fame is that I removed one of the engines from one of the network rail dmu’s for atw’s 121 not sure what number probably the one they have no plans to restore .121032 was then some time later cascaded to Chiltern when it became unviable for arriva trains wales to operate . Hope you find this useful .

It then went on to to 1/4 hourly services Cardiff Central - Bay finishing 2001. Then sitting in Cardiff Canton till 2008 until then being transferred to Wensleydale and as stayed there sonce

Good to see a group of them being reviewed but you missed significant flaws..... the bogies catch on the detail while other modelers have reported parts missing and slow but stable speeds. Given that a lot of modelers will look at these and want to combine them in some operations pairing them might of been a good idea.
