Developed by Visceral Games before being shut down by EA games, Dante's Inferno was a highly intense hack'n'slash action video game adaptation of the 1555 poem "Inferno" by Dante Alighieri. The first of three poems that comprised the Divine Comedy. This game peaked in popularity shortly after its release, but did see love later on from KZread lets plays like KZreadr like PewDiePie, Markiplier, or Jacksepticeye play. The music and aesthetic should ring familiar to Soulslike Dark Souls title thanks to its gothic Victorian aesthetic, and its medieval setting. The haunting shores and screaming damned feels like horror ASMR often times, or just like too many Billie Eilish lip-sync TikTok. Take note on the lifestyle that leads one to this hellish fate.

Given what happened to God of War (let's not pretend that Kratos' revival after the finale of 3 was anything more than Santa Monica wanting to make a Norse mythology game, but being too chicken to make a new IP... grumble grumble franchise necromancy grumble...), it became more Divine Comedy than the DI game. GoW4 was slower. Longer. Contemplative. A visual spectacle. Character focused, with redemption as a prominent theme. Had less and worse combat. Lots of talking. And towing around some near-helpless doofus, or as Kratos put it... BOY. Ironic, given how often "GoW Clone" is used to insult Dante's Inferno. Perhaps doubly ironic, given the sophomoric "immaturity" of the original God of War trilogy and its sub-entries actually _was_ true to the spirit of the Greek myths, if not always the letter, whereas Dante's Inferno was more true to the letter of the poem (to the point of often literally quoting it) than the spirit. The Greek Gods may have been primordial sociopaths and sex-pests deserving of everything they got while all the mortals suffer regardless of the manager, whereas the whole point of the Bible is that _we're_ the sociopaths for whom _God_ took a walloping so that we could bypass the consequences of our sins and become something better. If one of these two series deserved to turn down the edge and become more navel gazing, God of War was absolutely the wrong choice. Now they _both_ defy the spirit of their original cultures, being time capsules for ideas of their modern developers more than any preservation of the old.

Really well done review! I've recently started a script for an installment for Megatronic Legacy. Originally it was going to be called "Shirai Ryu Crusaders" then changed to "Akuma" as it's loosely based off of Inferno with its own fictional adaptation of Hell with a similar journey as Dante went through. Thank you Evan Prince for talking about this Video Game in an honest, balanced, intelligent and insightful way. I myself am not a Catholic and this adaptation has an inconsistent theology that can be described as 'Off the walls crazy dawg." (I mean, Absolving Souls in Hell, I mean, It's a bit l8 for that m8). Dante defeating Death the way he did in the Video Game seems odd though one could interpret this as Dante accepting Christ since Yeshua/Jesus Christ is the only person who defeated Death. Other than that, this video has reignited a fear of Hell in me, and I think it's a healthy kind because as we all should know, "The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom". After seeing your video, I even took time yesterday to go to a book shop to find Dante's Poetry Epic. I found the books, the third part of the Divine Comedy and a book that is the entire Inferno/Divine Comedy. Again, I'm not a catholic and I highly disagree with works based Faith and Purgatory and I can tell their is genuine Beauty and self-reflective Truth deeply in grained in arguably every word Dante wrote. Because at times, Life really does feel like a Journey to Hell and back to find Paradise on the other side of the Journey. It's incredible how such a Journey can cause people like me to look at the filth of my life and endure through a Journey to be Redeemed and find Peace. I never really got myself very familiar with the Poem's story until now and I can see how impactful this text has been in Popular Culture alongside other texts like 'Paradise Lost', the Iilad, the Odyssey, Heart of Darkness and more. Imagery of souls burning in hell, reaching up for the boat, appears in Apocalypse Now. 'Over the Garden Wall' was a Junior version of Dante's Inferno (which I didn't know first time watching and even if it wasn't intentional, the story patterns are there) Dante is the name of a dog in 'Coco' Even comic Relief goofy scene stealing 'Indiana Jones' style Simon Pegg voiced Weasel, Buck, references the famous line "Abandon all Hope". Buck of all characters, I think, introduced me to a line about Hell. There's something profound about what happens after you've been through horror. If you grow in the way God intends you to grow, in a way that improves your character, You'll be transformed and blessed in such an astonishing way. So many people think life is a breeze but the Holy Bible itself never guarantees this. Have you read the Book of Job and the Book of Ecclesiastes? Even I, with my Good Health and gradual progress, am still facing severe trials in my life. Trials that feel like torment, but I'm noticing that commitment to Grace and Redemption and Truth helps to defeat all kinds of Trials and condemnations. That's the lesson anyone can take from the poem, the game and the animated adaptation. If you endure, you'll find Love. I could go on about how the peak of Heaven represents God's Love and the bottom of hell is pathetically cold. (Side note: A medievalist poet had a vision of the world being round. Take that Neil DeGrasse Tyson (Pray for him though :) )).

Everything from graphics and that amazing sound design was just an awesome experience on my home theater a lot of games now a days have absolutely awful sound design and really disappointing to me that should be just as important I'm going off on a tangent here but this game deserves more recognition. 45:10 This is a reference to the apocrypha gospel story where you have Satan gloat for killing Christ, and Hades (hell personified) damning Satan for ruining everything. Later in that story, you see that Hades sustenance is from the souls who go to hell and that Satan damned them because Christ came down to rescue all those ancestors before him.

So Alighieri wanted to make a hell as a commentary to what Christian governing bodies were really prioritizing as seeing "the worst sins". For financials to be so low in the rings should serve to illuminate that. And politicians lol like I get it it's funny, but violence and murder are what they are. Bonus point he didn't have the heart to write in his inspirations such as Socrates in any manner of suffering for being a non believer, wrote in a mildly dull ring of hell just for them. The movie was great, the art style changing with the levels of hell was cool but it seemed to degrade. Can't help but see Digimon when they go to the final ring. Wonderful video overall thank you.

🔥 In the IV Circle of Greed gold pearls are better than gold coins, because unlike coins, which are made by man (Fraud), pearls are made by Nature (example the golden touch of Dionysus and the natural magic water that can turn everything into perfect gold). In Greed as monsters there are: Scorpions (serpentine), Giants and Talos (both gold), Salamanders (gold), Unicorns (with two arms and two serpentine tails), Oreads, Naiads (with two serpentine tails), Skeletons (gold). Who else could be the Guardian of Greed, the Dragon Ladon (Golden Apples of the Garden of the Hesperides)? The dimension is a golden Pandemonium: boiling golden rain and golden lake for the damned who push great golden stones (Avaricious and Prodigals always in boiling gold). Together with Cerberus, also Giants (earth), Pegasi (winged with two arms), Satyrs and Dryads (both earth) and Cyclopes guarding Gluttony. A dimension of clay sea with clay rain, with the damned just like in a clay soup. Who can be the Guardian of Lust/Pride, Python the Dragon (the Dragon as a symbol of the Vampire and therefore of Lust/Pride)? The II Circle of Lust/Pride is divided into storm of air for the Lustful and rain/sea of snow for the Prideful. In Lust/Pride as monsters there are: Serpents (with four arms), Moray Eels (with two arms), Gorgons (with a serpentine tail), Lamia (vampiric), Ophiotaurs (with two arms and a serpentine tail), Elves (vampiric), Vampires (draconic), Sirens/Mermaids (winged with a serpentine tail), Dracaenas, Nereids and Mermen/Tritons (all three with two serpentine tails), Gorgotaurs (with two serpentine tails), Dragons (classic and serpentine), Crocodiles, Lizards, Ichthyocentaurs (with two equine legs and one/two serpentine tail/tails), Hippocampi (with two arms and a serpentine tail), Lobsters (reptilian), Giants (ice). Replace the Wrathful with the Envious in the Styx, and put the Wrathful within Dis with the Heretics! (Example Phlegyas, Fire of Ares, Thera's Bane, Atlas Quake, Blades of Exile) The Devils's Heresy is Wrath (example Lucifer's Heresy of Wrath which made the Devils wrathful towards the Angels, causing the War in Heaven)! The City of Dis is practically divided into three Rings: Wrathful (heretics against others), Pagans (heretics against themselves) and Heretics (heretics against God). "The City of Dis held Hell's deepest secrets and the worst violent and treacherous sinners. The fallen angels guarded it's walls and flaunted his kingdom." In Heresy as monsters there are: Giants and Colossi (both fire), Griffons (Ravens), Eagles. Their ash a counterpass of the Phoenix. The Leviathan is the Prince of Envy, who destroys and devours everything. The Bog of the Forgotten from God of War 2/Ascension (along with the Barbarian Hammer, Nemesis Whip, Charon's Wrath, Scourge of Erinys) is a realm of Envy/Sloth. Now Dwarves, Wyverns, Lampads (with two serpentine legs), Giants (poison), Basilisks, Crabs, Sharks, Turtles, Toads, Bats, Crows, Octopus, Wraiths, Undead are the ones to watch over the Styx marsh. “See the souls over whom Envy has prevailed. In the warm bath of the sun they were once hateful; down here in the black sludge of the river Styx do they wish they had never been born.” “Souls indignant! How many up there now count themselves kings, that here shall lie like worms in the mire, leaving their condemnations far behind!” "The Styx, a toxic marsh. Those awash with Envy drowned again and again, choking on their own venom." It is my well-founded and proven belief that Dante by Wrath he meant Envy (with Sloth) and by Heresy he meant Wrath (with Heresy). kzread.info/dash/bejne/i5acqa-vZ6-1oMo.htmlsi=XJkEZPPnMCJDWn3g (Not Wrath but Envy) Using Cacus as an example, shouldn't the Centaurs be placed not in the VII Circle of Violence but in the V Circle of Envy? Phlegias is the Guardian of Wrath/Heresy (VI Circle) and the Hydra (now a serpentine Poison Giantess) is the Guardian of Envy/Sloth (V Circle). Guarding the I Ring of Violence are Vultures, Minotaurs, Werewolves and Giants (metal), in the II Ring of Violence are Harpies (Warhammer) and Hounds, in the III Ring of Violence are Golems and Lions (both stone). Fire (storm) in the City of Heresy (Wrathful, Pagans and Heretics always in burning rock) and sand (storm) in the Desert of Blasphemy (Blasphemers, Sodomites and Usurers always in burning ash). In the I Ring (Caina) of Treachery, among the Traitors of Relatives, there are also the Traitors of Friends (because a loved friend becomes similar to a loved relative). In Fraud as monsters there are: Keres and Empusae (with reptilian arms and legs).

3:54 Its probably discussed later in the video, but the reason why Beatrice is taken to hell and has such a...relationship with Lucifer is because she wagered her soul to the Devil that Dante wouldn't betray her while on the Crusades, which he did, so when the man who's sister (or was it wife, I forgot) Dante fucked and then killed, murdered Beatrice, her soul was forfeit because Dante failed to keep his oath of fidelity. So this game ended up being as much about Dante's repentance as it was trying to save Beatrice's soul as well. It is worth noting that the original saga were as written by Dante Alighieri, was more of a political diatribe than anything else. Many of the figures in the deeper parts of hell, aside from the various biblical figures, were Dante's political enemies that had forced him out of Florence into exile and had since died by the time he wrote the poem. In fact, the poems were so well received that the Medicis actually rescinded his exile even though one of their own was featured prominently in the Circle of Greed. 12:30 I think that's the best way to describe this game. Its weird but its fun. It is nowhere near the best game in the genre but it is fun. 1:19:17 You kinda skipped over the big revelation here, which (as you probably can figure out but whatever) is that Dante was actually dead the entire game, and that he was not in Hell of his own volition as the earlier scenes imply, he was damned to hell for his sins, and its only after the souls he's absolved take pity for him that he's allowed into Purgatory.

Interesting that this was too much for KZread considering the grotesque violence depicted in GoW (greek saga)... I'm not much of a fan of games like that but I'm sure there's a market for this kind of stuff. Never was much of a fan of the poem either, too much catholic influence for my taste, but, it does shine a light on the papacy and the problems attached with the church using its position, power snd influence for political reasons, which I see as a big problem even in the modern days, orobably more so than before. And I think that they had to take more liberties with this than GoW had to with both Greek and Norse mythology. As I remember, the poem was a journey or a "tour" rather than a fight. Just walk around, seeing all the horrors of hell. But I digeess. This is certainly a bit much for me, though I'm lretty sure this is mild in comparison to what hell is actually like. I just tend to not venture into the realms of trying to earn salvation, especialy posthumus. But, there is a message that does speak to the real wrongdoings and sins, and, if even one person gets a conviction of something they're doing and commits to fight the flesh and make a change for the better, putting effort into their faith and walk with God, I'm all for it. Otherwise, it's a hack and slash game with religious symbolism, allegory and achetypes. Overall, good video. Definitely 1.5 hours bot wasted. :)

You know the funny thing about Pontius Pilate is that we have actual Roman records of the time about him and he was nothing like how the mythology describes him. He was such a brutal governor that he was removed by force and taken back to rome. Funny how mythology tries to describe someone who by his own peoples account was totally batshit insane as a innocent choir boi. Almost like the fairy tale book christians use got rewritten constantly to suit political narratives like to condemn jews to enable jew hunts and extermination aka pogroms.

thank you for making this video, it really brought a tear to my eye . i think it is sad that they always say " god " and not call him with he's real name "god"Yahuah and " jezus " Yeshuah. as far as the story goes it always captivated me as a child and it still does today, not because it's a game or a movie, but because it shows us a lesson we always tend to forget on a daily basis. It even mentions priests and popes and so on as evil do'ers, wich dares to embark the question if they are the ones we should really trust and they show this at the beginning of the game how dante got deceived by just a mere word " god will absolve you of all your sins " and they march off to war. this is a mockery of how simple people can be persuaded in doing bad things in the name of god and this is portrayed beautifully . i can't say more that this is one of the best things i have ever witnessed and give my props to EA for funding this wich also makes me believe that there are also good people among EA who would like to get this story about sin brought out ! as no person is without sin ! this is a masterpiece among many games even till this day, it shines beautifully for not only those want to play it, but also those who want to listen to the message they are trying to give you . This is one of those games i truly feel the illuminati and the fake church had no influence on to deceive us from our own truths ! It's a shame they didn't advertise this game on a big scale, but it got mentioned a few times but quickly forgotten about. if they would do a remaster of the game i would buy it for sure !

How it actually worked in the crusades was that christ made the ultimate sacrifice, giving you the ability to have your sins forgiven. All you have to do is be baptized and remain in him. If you commit a mortal sin, then you mist repent and go to confession. The crusaders were not promised forgiveness of their sins as christ had already achieved that for them by the crucifixion and his instituted sacraments of baptism and confession. What crusaders were promised were the revision of temporal punishment due to sin. In other words, it was penance. If you sinned and didn't speak confession, you would still be copable for that sin even if you went on a crusade. Also, I'm pretty sure the devine comedy follows the repent, purgation, and finally paradise of the Cristian life. It doesn't go through hell. It goes through purgatory. You are correct. Once you are in hell, you can not get out. People in hell choose hell because they didn't truly choose God. They don't want put of hell. Preists can absolve sinse because they were given that authority by Christ is John 20:23. You can pray for the purgation of the dead as seen in multiple texts of the bible, but purgatory isn't hell. Those in purgatory are going to heaven. It is the purification of the soul before it enters heaven. There is not a particular teaching on how long this takes. Some theologians give a number, and others say it is instant. But it's clear from St. paul as well as old testement texts that purgatory exists.

@@CyrusCageSCWS They deny him as Messiah and claim the Torah and Talmud as well as the New Testaments are corrupted. Also have you ever read the Islamic interpretation of how it all ends? Spoiler alert - it is in near sync with Revelation, but determines two individuals as the good and one as the evil. And bear in mind - Revelation speaks of The Beast and False Prophet who oppose Messiah on his return. I don't deal in coincidence. Islam is a false dogma and when the Beast and False Prophet emerge, even the Jews who do not turn to Messiah will fall for the deception. And all those who spoke with Mohammad after his altercation in a cave claimed he had been attacked by a demonic force - since when did The Most High EVER convene with one he sort to have tasked with something by harming them. That should start telling you EVERYTHING about who's behind that line of writing. The Adversary and the other fallen KNOW that they have lost since the victory over death by Messiah and their time is short. All we see now is their attempt to drag as many humans with them. Tragically, I would wager the number of those who make it into His kingdom barely make it to 1 percent of all men and women. Do not let yourself be deceived. I know Judaism, Christianity and Islam and the latter one has no semblance to the former two other then to undermine them. A proof? Find contradiction through the old and new testaments - you won't find one. Find contradiction from Islamic text to either testament and you'll find it in no time at all.

I don't particularly care, but in what world is this game "adult" and "respectful"? The protagonist goes around absolving people's (and even demons') sins on his own accord, not even acting in God's name, which is absolutely heretical. I don't think there's even one mention of Christ in the game! There's also the ridiculous amount of white guilt as the central conceit of the story, once again painting the Crusades as an evil endeavor rather than justified retaliation after centuries of continued attacks. Beatrice wearing a dress with a big vagina pattern? Hellraiser babies with blades for arms? It's all juvenile trash. Let's not forget the planned sequels that would have had Dante fighting angels in heaven, Bayonetta style. As I said, I'm an atheist and the violence and naked bodies don't bother me either, but let's call a spade a spade.

That's not at all written in His word. Once you stand before the throne of The Most High - should you have not accepted Messiah for who he is and what his sacrifice gifted, you are made accountable for every act of sin you have committed: minute and insignificant as you may perceive some of them to be and most likely will have forgotten. All are what have us fall short of The Most High. The penalty of sin it is written, is death and as such you can only really die once. That means you have paid one sin's price but that also leaves you with the countless rest that you cannot pay for. Such is the reason for His coming.
