I walked up to Nicholson in 91 at a Knick/Laker game. He turned and saw me staring . I had scammed some important seat tickets . I said Hi Jack , love your work . He said l love to act . I countered with I'm from New Jersey. He just lit up and talked for about a minute. Nice guy!
I can’t believe I just realized both played a villain to Michael Keaton’s Batman

They were also both in "Terms of Endearment", another Best Picture winner and film that got Jack an Oscar (this time for Best Actor in a Supporting Role).
It’s so funny how jack and Danny are basically acting soulmates. They starred in quite a handful of films together, they’re friends IRL, they directed each other in their movies and to top it off, they are both from the same regional area in NJ and grew up near each other, though I don’t think they knew each other then until they were starting to work as actors. Danny said he had a cousin who ran a hair parlor and one of Jack’s relatives would come in and brag about his acting talents.
Jack just enjoys so much you can see it in his acting
I am from Neptune and Asbury Park! Loved this interview. My great grandmother and grandmother and mom knew both families of Danny and Jack. Listening to this interview brought back memories! Absolutely enjoyed it!
Great movie, and one of the few times when a film was as good as the book that inspired it. The book tells the story through the eyes of the Chief, which is really interesting

Thanks for mentioning the book! Does anyone read these classic books anymore!
Cuckoo's Nest is my favorite film of all time. The best.
Nicholson should've won back to back Best Actor Oscars for Chinatown & Cukoos Nest.

@@ottokriete1153 No I haven't, but I'll have to see it. Though I did see Jack in "Chinatown", and although I'm not as big a fan of that film as my dad is, I found Jack's performance to be quite enjoyable.

I named my cat, who sadly passed away, Martini, because of his character in this movie.

I like that - because if I met you, I’d assume it was after the cocktail, but it’s always best when there’s an unexpected story. My former roommate’s cat, “Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen,” (one cat) was a bit too self explanatory :-) My bequeathed was named Maynard after the singer from Tool; he knows his name and could never change it.

Sweet story..RIP Martini.....Our Pets really do become Family! Danny's character really was a tough play if people really view what it all entailed to make it work in the movie. I'm sure that can be said for many of the "Other Characters"....NEST will always be in my Top 10...by the way, the book is word for word like the movie!! Cheers
Loved that show
Both were awesome in "Hoffa"
Thanks Danny. Love you and your acting. Great movie!
Amazing and so very cool to see this interview.👍🥴
i am from manasquan where nicholson went to the high school i went to and was class clown in the year book after only going there for one year! always great to hear stuff about him and danny

I don't normally like New Hollywood movies, but "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is a top five favorite of mine.
In 1984 as a freshman I went to the graduation ceremony for St John Neumann HS in Philly and the Mayor of Wildwood, NJ had written a letter to the graduating class asking them NOT to come to Wildwood to celebrate their graduation 😂.
Legend movie...just brillance.
That's right Mr. Martini..There is an Easter Bunny.

What were the odds that Danny DeVito would become a major film and television star?A trillion to one--and he won the lottery by beating the odds.
Great basketball scene in that movie! The Chief played some great D! Albeit it, he did goaltend!

Recently just got around to watching this movie...that was my favorite scene, it made me laugh so much I had to replay it a few times
Another movie that Danny had a big part was The Big Kahuna. I think this is a great movie that hasn't got that attention that it deserves.

@Pepe Lopez My favorite Devito movies were Ruthless People and Tin Men.
He was good as Martini.
Jersey Boys .
Funny how he wants to say "honored" and then stops and says "pleasure to work with"
A brilliant move.
Martini! Martini!
Martini was awesome
The Steel Pier.
One of the great films. Five Easy Pieces and One Flew … How do you choose which is your favourite Nicholson film? Two Classic’s.

What happened to movies? So many great movies in 60s and 70s! Good ones are rare now. And will movies recover from Covid 19?

There’s still good movies, but you have to look for them. They’re overshadowed by all the big budget reboots, remakes, comic book movies, adaptations and other franchise sequels.

S S yes, you are correct... they specifically pander to China. It’s awful, I know. That’s why you have to look to the smaller indie flicks for a good viewing experience.

When Nicholson left Jersey in ‘54 to move to California, Springsteen was only 5 years. By the time the E Street Band formed, Nicholson had already been living and working in LA for 18 years. In fact, he would have been filming The Last Detail around that time roughly.

Carl Ryan There’s less of an age gap between DeVito and Springsteen, but DeVito was already in Hollywood a few years by the time Springsteen got started, much less recognized. I mean I’m no expert but the timeline would suggest that they likely didn’t cross paths in the old days in Jersey.
