With a speech impediment? So, how do the frogmen fit the scuba mouthpiece in their mouths? Do they take the potatoes out or are the mouthpieces custom made for danish speakers? 😁

When the Terror Attack happened in Denmark in 2015, The Frogmen was deployed to assist the police. Its also important to note the language the instructors are using. They talk very polite, and they adress the aspirants very formelly.

We love our "Frømænd" and our King is a frømand veteran, his nick name was "Pingo". He impressed during the inauguration, of which some was public and followed by the Danish tv, where he (being a smoker) sat at the bottom of the pool for two minutes and then took the 50 meters still under water, to the other end. Now that's a warrior King. And you read correct, the Danish Frømænd have some of the highest, if not the highest attrition rate. They are not only considered mentally and physically strong, but very intellectual as well, why all walks of life can apply...

As a Dane its cool to see your view on it as a british vet. Also the frogmen are indeed based on the the special boat service (like so many other special forces after WW2).The anglo-saxon really were the tip of the spear / frontrunners ;)

Someone once told me, when it comes to many jobs in the military the physical abilities is not the most important thing. Yes, getting in the frogmen core takes a lot of training to be able to complete their entrance course and to succeed in the main course. But, one thing is even more important and that is the aspirants mindset. Can they keep going even though they are tired, hungry, wet and stressed. It is much harder to train someone to have that mindset, than it is to train somebody to run 15k. You can be an absolute unit, but if you are only willing to give 50% of yourself, that is not the place for you.

The 311 number stated at the start was 100% correct at the time, 2015. In 2013 in an interview, we got told there was about 150 actively serving in the Frogman Corp. The public does now know how many are serving today.

And just to add to this, they say it takes 10 "Jæger (Hunters)" to 1 "Frø (Frog)", with a Jæger being equivalent to the British SAS. So you can definitely see the exclusivity in the numbers, and see there's not many Frogs.

Today it is around 350 people that have become Frogmen. Had the pleasure to work and talk with a frogman who was active doing the 70s and 80s, he had some stories, told us they got a new id and background doing that time, one of the things they did was training in responds too counter the special forces from Poland, who was dedicated for invading Denmark if the red flag was raised, stuff he wouldn't talk about, which makes you wonder, what did we do that doing that period.

Denmark is an archipelago. We HAVE to have soldiers, who can work under water. Our sister and brothers have soldiers, who can ski - in mountains and forrests. The Nordics have Peace Keeping Forces. It's beautiful - and a cute. If we ever have to fight on home ground, it'll be a guerilla war. I say, good luck taking on the Finns and the Swedes. It's a different jungle! But have you seen how flat Denmark is? There's hardly a hill 🙄No forrest, just a bit of woods. Where the f are you going to hide?

Frogs are one branch of Danish SFs, the other being the hunters or jægere. They have a very different recruitment structure, where anyone can apply to become a frogman, only trained soldiers are picked for the hunter recruitment. They tried a similar setup to the frogmen, but found it took too much work to get them through the basics, PE, weapons training etc., to get them up to speed and ready to enter the course. How the Frogmen make it work, I'm not sure. The attempt was done to attract a broader skill set to the hunters, but unfortunately didn't pan out. And yes. They are the Danish equivalents to the SAS and SBS.

The two units has a friendly rivalry, Jægerkorpset er the gung ho aggressive jump-ou-of-planes types, and Frøerne are quiet, calm, nice and lethal. @@CombatReadyHQ BTW, did you not serve with Danes in Helmand? Danes and Brits stood shoulder to shoulder in the hardest fighting there, and Danes suffered the highest losses per population. Though compared to what is going on in Ukraine, it was a police action. People did not like it when I called it that back then. Guerrilla screws your mind most, hot war screws your body most.

I think the stereotype of the aggressive Jaeger is more of a Cold War thing, that's at least what I read in memoirs, and that it changed when they switched to a more counter-terror and special operations profile in the 1990s. The old Jaeger motto also used to be "Forrest mod fjenden" (In the front towards the enemy) from their times as skirmishers and shock troops, which they changed in the same period to the current "Plus Esse Quam Simultatur" (More to be than to seem). If anything the current stereotype leans more towards the Frogmen acting like toughguys during these selection documentaries, compared to more laid back Jaegers.

This is the second time I’ve had to correct someone online about Lassen’s medals. I don’t know where my fellow Danes get the idea he got 2 (two!) Victoria Crosses. He won his VC at Lake Camacchio, Italy in 1945 and two or three Military Cross medals, can’t remember exact number. But NOT two VCs… come on. There’s only like 3 guys who has ever won 2 VCs. Think a little before posting
