    The magician "ruining" the trick by casually preempting the end (like when he shows one hand at a time from beneath the handkerchief, supposedly _before_ he escapes) is probably my favorite magic trope. It's understated -- by acting casually about it, the magician doesn't draw attention to it and it _looks_ perfectly natural, but when you think about it, they _shouldn't_ even be _able_ to do it. It's like the magician saying "I know that you know that the trick can happen at any moment, so let's have fun with this." Danial executed this fantastically!

  • @arandombard1197

    @arandombard1197

    It's smart because we instinctively know that he can probably get out of those thumbcuffs, so by pre-empting it just before the reveal it throws us a curveball because we thought that it was going to be the final reveal. Now we're not sure what we should be looking for and we don't have enough time to speculate before he reveals the card around his two thumbs.

    The fact that Daniel does not speak English as a first language/fluently but still managed to pull off the jokes and be so charming is impressive in itself really, and makes him a great performer. But the trick itself was also fantastic and although Penn and Teller may have figured it out, the average non-magician would still be totally fooled (at least I was) and it was really a pleasure to watch!! I think having Penn say that your trick is “perfect” is almost better than fooling them tbh!!

    Wow Daniel isn't just a great magician he's a great performer period. The was one of the best examples I've ever seen of mixing comedy in with magic without it being super cheesy or forced. He's a natural. Even though he didn't fool them I hope he goes on to grow his platform and get some spotlight because this act was one of the more entertaining acts you'll see and I'm sure he has more up his sleeve.

    Oh man, you remind me of one of my friends from many years ago. We sold cars together and absolutely loved WRC racing (and cars in general) so we got along really well. He was from Paraguay and told me about all the WRC circuits he'd been to in South America. This reminded me of him because of how insanely on-point and witty everything was. Well written, well-performed, and well paced.

    Fred Darsow 1 second ago This is absolutely perfect. He was completely successful-- He says: "People forgive a mistake, but don't forgive when the show is boring." His quips are short, fast, and funny. Rarely do the magicians/comedians keep me engaged and laughing out loud; usually the jokes are not particularly funny. I actually don't really care if they fool Penn & Teller. The way he keeps his performance very kinetic, the tempo and delivery fast throughout the routine and how he warmly interacts with Alison & Manuel (even w/ Penn & Teller-- they are just sitting there aghast) helps him get a kinesthetic response of real enjoyment and amusement. For me, this is the best routine that I have seen on this show.

    What a great routine, so entertaining. For those who may not get the "JJ" as Harry Houdini's initials joke: when speaking Spanish, you pronounce "J" in the manner you would pronounce "H" if speaking English. A clever joke that got a solid ja ja from me...

    We need more magicians like this. Comedy and magic is a perfect pair. From the "JJ" for Jarry Joudini to reaching into his pockect with one hand (when his thumbs were supposed to be cuffed, and it went right over Allison's head) to give Allison the key to unlock him in case he cant get free. Soo much fun, great job!

    "Completely a surprise and then totally inevitable" is a beautiful and poetically simple way to explain the absolute best magic routine payoffs. Where everything in the routine was leading to an obvious and inevitable payoff and yet none of us saw it coming. The magic isn't hidden in layer upon layer of complexity because Daniel's skill and talent made it seem like he was stripping away so many layers until you feel like there is nothing he is hiding. Then BAM he hits you with the trick and its fantastic. Anyone with about $20 and access to a magic shop has everything physically needed to do this trick but next to nobody could perform it like this.

    As others have said - this is such a beautiful performance. One of my favorites from the entire history of this show. So good that I'm glad they didn't speak in code. I went back and watched it again, and the "moments" are actually quite noticeable for people who know what they're looking for.... but the "magic" is in his pacing and delivery that make you completely miss the "moments" because you're enthralled by the performance. Bravo!!!
