I have a DD MK18 RIII complete upper build. Also using Unity combo, but with CompM5 and Eotech 5x. Went all out with Plhv2, LAM and Axon remote, BCM VFG, Savvy Sniper sling, Hiperfire eclipse, Phase 5 bolt lever, Radian lower parts and SD CH, Geissele Super 42 H2, and mag button. Magpul SL stock and B5 grip. Used an M4E1 lower because I love the magwell and smooth trigger guard. It is now one of my main, sitting next to me everyday. I did experiment with Super42 H3 on a baffled can, still running way fast(~2 o'clock), and because of the added mass and spring power, it felt very jumpy almost like a PCC. Switching to Huxwrx HX-QD556Ti did the magic, I dropped it to H2 and still having ~3:30 ejection, super soft and smooth now. The tune is not as good since the muzzle end sounds a bit more pitchy. Polo K, as I know, has super high back pressure; it's going to be HARSH on an MK18. I really do believe that the suppressor choice is going to make or break you build. Huxwrx Flow 556k or CAT WB 718 would be my top choices. Try to get a WB 718, it will provide RC2 level of muzzle performance(sound and flash) while giving you very low back pressure and Huxwrx level of ear suppression. Inconel 718 with a sacrificial baffle is also going to be way tougher than 17-4 stainless.

I'm not a retro guy. This is my take on what a modern(as of 2024) MK18 should be. I value balance, handling, and reliability. With everything on it, stock extended halfway, 30 rounds loaded, and ready to rock, this MK18 balances on the '5.56 bullet engraving', making it super balanced and able to stand on a Magpod Pmag. As you said, this is for 300 and in, most likely 3-15yds. I don't get the argument about MK18's inferior ballistics from some people. It doesn't matter when training, paper and steel don't care. One should run good ammo for serious use anyway. If life is on the line, the ammo price difference shouldn't be a factor. If I need to carry it somewhere and have it with me as much as possible, I would much prefer an MK18 if I'm not always in open terrain.

I totally agree with your theory on the MK18. It performs really well for what it's designed for. For the time being, I'm going to have to run the Polonium K on it, as it's currently my only 5.56 suppressor, but I might have to get one of the flow through options down the road. I've spent some time shooting the HUXWRX Flow 556K and I was very impressed by it.

I've committed an act of heresy - I swapped the DD 10.3" barrel for a DD 11.5" barrel on my DD Mk18 URG. I wanted to put an adjustable gas system (Riflespeed) and the 10.3" was too short to allow it to be used. I never aimed for it to be clone-correct.

I typed that comment before watching the entire video. I also run an emissary grip, and CB B5 furniture. As well as a tan eotech. I will say, the emissary is extremely comfortable when paired with the ris 2 rail. In my opinion what you have planned for it seems solid

I love the Emissary Handbrake and I'm sure I'll love the Griffin MK2 lower, as well. It's got the same controls as my ADM lower and I really like that one...

I just got the DD 14.5 upper with the 4 bolt and the MFR rail and absolutely love it. It's a steal on Optics Planet for $900.

That's a damn good deal!

I put a Black River Tactical EZ tune gas tube in mine to reduce the overgassing since it is dedicated suppressed. Between that and the adjustable bcg that bleeds gas off it runs great with a Sierra 5.

I was planning to use the same BCM Ion Bond Tan BCG that I used in my "dream rifle" build, but it went out of stock, so I ordered a Microbest Chrome BCG from Rooftop Defense. Microbest OEMs BCM BCGs, so it's basically the same thing...

Enjoy it Sir! I build my self an Clone Build too (Block2)or just say a semi Clone because i dont get every exact Part . But the most i got so i Set it up with an Eotech exps3-0 , G33sts ,Surefire m340c, Tango Down Stubby, Magpul Miad , Pri Gas Buster , Sopmod Stock , Geissele SSA and so on . From the Furniture wise its easyer here in Austria because we have no laws with Foregrips and Stocks in combination with shorter Barrels ! I absolut love and enjoy it to shoot. I mostly train indoor and i live in Urban vicinity . Also here in Lower Austria there is basicaly everywhere real tight Forests so a short Rifle makes absolut sense to me . And as a machinist since 1997 i can say a Ris 2 is a unbeatable tank ! Show us the finish Gun Sir ! Best greetings from 🇦🇹

Thank you for the input! It's a shame that we have to pay for a $200 tax stamp in order to use the stock and grip that we want here in the United States, but at least we still have the freedom to get things like this. Check out the Geissele SSA-E-X. It comes in the super duty and you can now buy it by itself. Watch the new Geissele trigger video they just put out this week. Goes over all the different trigger options. I really like the SSA-E-X. I have a shorty build with a 10.5 FN CHF chrome lined barrel with a Geissele rail. My spin on MK18. I love it. Definitely louder!! :)

I'm sure it'll be loud without a suppressor! I've heard LOTS of good things about the SSAE-X. Maybe, I'll have to try that one in this build.

I've wanted that same upper for some time. It's hard to spend the money though. I already have a V7 14.5 with a SSAE and a G braided spring H2. Runs like a champ.

Damn man! I am/was building an MK18 Clone...but you beat me to it! Sounds like I need to go ahead and get that same upper,barrel,and handguard from Brownells...I scrapped/stopped building a .300 BA due to ammo availability...5.56 can be found anywhere and everywhere! Unlike .300 BA that is over a dollar 💵 per round. I have a fully built SBR'd 12.5" Ak...and alot of ammo 🤷‍♂️so that solves my .30 caliber want...I have destroyed concrete barriers with ease from my Ak.

That looks like a Brownells throw together Mk18! The ones that come from DD say Mk18 on the upper receiver. The ones that don’t come from DD say Daniel Defense on the upper receiver! They also come with a different gas block and they don’t pin the gas block either like the ones that come from DD do! I know because I purchased one and started wondering why it looks different so I started doing some research. Nothing wrong with the one you have I just thought you would like to know. I own both the one from Brownells and one from DD. My only complaint was the gas block not being pinned with how violent that system is so I just ended up pinning it. I believe the gas block they use is also a mk12 so that’s pretty cool also. Love both of my mk18s they’re badass.

It did come from Brownells, but the gas block is pinned. That was one of the first things I noticed when I got deeper into it.

As for cloning I’m running LMT iron sights on one and KAC on the other. Warcomp and 3 prong with RC2s and surefire minis. Eotechs with unity risers. Troy vert grip and tango down qd vert. Buffer system I have a carbine length with sprinco blue and h2 and the other a vltor buffer system. Bcgs I have a DD in one and the Centurion sandcutter with his new V2 bolt. Sprinco springs and gas rings in both bcgs. Colt lpk with Geissele flat triggers magpul grips and stock. Texas gun vault has some really great videos on the mk18 clone as for modern tac shooting and small arms solutions and American outlaw! All very informative! New to your channel and I’m looking forward to your build! Love those sig sights btw! Happy building.

I've used those in the past and might use one that I've got sitting around until I end up SBRing it, but I've realized over the last few years that I like vertical foregrips a lot more than angled ones.

My faux mk18 build is on my channel. only thing dd is the irons.

That's a good way to go, as well. BCM makes GREAT stuff and 11.5" is about the perfect barrel length.

So why do you prefer B5 over Magpul K2?

I like the Magpul K2, also. It's probably my second favorite grip. They both have a great angle, but I like the texture better on the B5 and I like the way it looks.

What kind of buffer system are you going to run?

I haven't made that decision just yet. I've been using the Geissele Super 42 system in my last few builds and I like it, but I also want to look up what Daniel Defense recommends for the MK18 running suppressed, so I hopefully won't have to do too much buffer tuning to get it running properly.
