Right, problem is Max is also a fighter... it turns out, DC has no say in this because he said himself he’s never felt like quitting, he always just was ready to get back out win or lose... Which means every fighter doesn’t have the same mentality or morals principles or whatever u wanna call it. The bottom line is, Max said he wanted out, but he wasn’t beaten to a pulp... if he was starting to get hurt Bad then it would be wrong if the corner didn’t throw in the towel, but for his corner not to try and push him woulda been wrong too... so if u ask me, nobody was at fault here, everything went the way it should have. Dude signed up for a fight, so he shoulda fought... 5 days notice and I’m done isn’t an excuse, he shouldn’t have taken the fight if he wasn’t in shape or prepared.otherwise, Why not quit after 30 seconds, especially if you realize you don’t stand a chance. Because that’s not how it works, you gotta get out there and try, and if you don’t then you gotta deal with the humility of having to have a loss along with a By way of “no mas” On your record

Ya, he saw everything his fighter did to prep on 5 days notice and cut weight, the years of training, etc. Especially since he has been there himself. He owes it to his fighter to take that minute before making a decision. I just wish there was a way the hecould have made the call without the world knowing that Max was tossing it in himself. Not because I think any less of him, but because of how Dana White, other fighters and many fans will. Given he took the challenge on 5 days and prob had next to nothing in the tank going in, I'd hope he'd have another shot. Dana gave mixed messages on it, he basically said right after the fight that the kid gave up so no, but then he also made comments in the post fight presser saying anyone that judges this kid, who took the short notice and stepped in there, should keep their mouths shut. So who knows.

The same logic can be used on everyone in here saying Ariel doesn’t have the credentials to comment on fighting because he’s never fought. Us commenting on Ariel shouldn’t be allowed to because we’ve never done his job at the level he’s doing it. If we say he can’t comment because he’s never fought in the UFC, then we can’t comment on him because we haven’t been reporting the sport for more than 10 years and we don’t have a show on ESPN like Ariel. 😂😂

DC has it spot on - there’s a right and a wrong here. The coach has a responsibility to ‘G’ up his fighter mentally, and if drysdale was visibly psyching max into the fight that was fine But no amount of ‘G’ing max up would have got his mind in that fight. DC is so right perhaps the intention was there, but after 40 seconds or so he should have called it

I understand that he wanted out and was getting beat up and was exhausted but there are probably 100 ufc fights where the fighter is more tired and/more beat up than Max was and yet they continued to fight. You would hope that people getting into mma have the mindset and mental toughness to stick out the hard fights. This fight also showed that Max seems to not have been tested in his training

Max was exhausted in the second round and he couldn't bring up his hands to punch. He couldn't hit and kept getting hit hard. Max would be too tired and be a punching bag if he went out to fight in the third round. He could be very damaged and never fight again. I thought he was down 2 rounds. And even if it were 1 and 1, everything should be based on situation. Health comes first.

health actually comes last when it comes to fighting. fighters know what theyre getting into before they fight. fighters know what comes with fighting and we still do it despite losing some health on the way. just a different mindset. exhuasation just means you didn't train. if you walk into any boxing gyms youll see a poster or sign saying something like exhaustion is temporary, exhuasation makes cowards out of people, or being tired means youre not training correctly, how many times do you see boxers at the highest level being exhausted.

In reality we have a bunch of folks with Bavarian creme dripping down their collective chins as they condemn an actual cage fighter as a quitter. If you have actually followed the UFC for some time you will see many fighter 'quitting' on themselves by simply turned away and covering their head, allowing their opponent to wail on them until the ref steps in and hoping that process doesn't take too long...see any lopsided Mario Yamasaki match for a more detailed analysis. @@SaintsCheat - You should be praising that coach. No coach should quit for their fighter when they haven't voiced an issue that hampers them physically. Max didn't want to fight anymore and that is totally unacceptable in the middle of competition. Don't matter how short his notice was or the weight cut, you don't quit on a stool and then stick around to watch your opponent get his hands raised. The coach tried to save him by trying to push him beyond that mental barrier in his head. Max needed to be the one that quit himself and own the decision. No coach should bail out a quitter. It doesn't protect them in the future because it could easily happen again since they never had to deal with the shame. Max needed to face this demon on his own and confront it. There has been many fights where a fighter was getting beat most of the rounds but managed to endure and pull out a last-minute win. The First fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen is a great example. The coach believed his wrestling was better and if he could take him down he may pull out the win. In the end of the day maybe he should have ended it if the fighter was that against it but people shouldn't bash the coach for trying his best to motivate his fighter to endure. Thats what any athlete would want their coach to do. Im sure all of the greats had one moment in life where they thought they couldn't do it but still did.

No surprise Ariel feels this way...he is the farthest thing from a fighter there is, and will never understand a fighter or a fighter-coach relationship no matter how long he covers this sport 😂. No disrespect, just the truth

I don’t get why everyone thinks he has to call it before the bell rings for the next round. Give your fighter every opportunity to dig deep. If the ref says it’s time for the next round and the fighter still says no then call it. I would’ve waited and let him rest til last second, then called it if he still was too exhausted. Calling it at 40 seconds doesn’t protect the fighter any more than calling it at 60 seconds.

Yeah He wasnt losin it Was pretty close and im sure He would have lasted one more round but if He says He dont want to continue to the ref and tells his Coach I dont wanna do this its prolly better to just Stop the fight

The ref always asks the fighters if they’re ready at the beginning of rounds. Thats when he would be given his final chance to quit or not, the coach knew that.

Coach Drysdale did the right thing. Max Rohskopf answered that he doesn't have the mental ability to succeed at the UFC level. I would say this was his 1st and last fight ever in the UFC.

DC is right, the coach did what a coach should and try to get his fighter back in the fight as it was still a competitive match and nowhere near a demolition or injured fighter. Regardless if the fighter doesn’t want to continue he has all the power to tell the ref himself.
