Dangerous Magnetron flame Record: 28cm Plasma
Ғылым және технология
This is the largest magnetron flame ever made by an hobbyist. The flame is 28cm big. Please never recreate this experiment if you don't have knowledge in HV and microwaves.

RIP all 2.4GHz WiFi connections in the area :D Impressive flame!
i find it funny how your jumper leads are casually just smoking
@motness
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't really know why it was smoking but I guess it was the microwaves😂
martian death ray concept. A small quantum singularity and Holy Crap!
did your head deform into an alien-like creature?
Nice flame though 👌
😮 wow 😮. How it does work?
jeez, how much power did you feed into that magnetron?
@motness
Жыл бұрын
I didn't measure it but I have 2 MOTs with one doubler on both MOTs. I guess the power is around 2-3kva at max

@@ludwikludwik615 yes its the same as an HFVTTC. But instead of having a oscilator build out of an transmitter tube im using the Magnetron. The magnetron is an self contained oszilator that oszilates at around 2,4ghz
Great way to stay warm during winter :D
Try a carbon breakout 👍

Do you just braze the breakout point to the end of the antenna or is it enough to just have it close to the antenna?
Jesus unholy baby Christmas. That is just flipping fantastic!
Most of the microwaves are emitted perpendicular to the antenna
@motness

I wouldn't be to worried about microwaves. Most of the energy goes into the flame. Also I had an metal helmet protecting my head. Inverse square law is also our friend in this situation.
poor food leftovers :D
I suppose it must release a large amount of ozone. is that so?

Probably nitric oxides NO + NO2. Not sure.
How did you do this ???

Just overdrive the magnetron lol
Why the magnetron is behaving like hfssstc ?
@609keV

Because they're both quite similar :)
Be careful the ceramic contains beryllium. I hope you wee wearing a mask / the ceramic was not too broken
@motness
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I know the ceramic was completely fine. It shouldn't be a problem while running the magnetron normally.

I'm pretty sure this is a myth that originated from very early magnetrons and military/very high power vacuum tubes that actually did use beryllium ceramic. For the past few decades most household microwaves likely use alumina as its cheaper and doesn't require the expensive process of handling toxic beryllium ceramics.
Could you please release the wiring diagram?
@motness
Жыл бұрын
It's very simple it's just two MOTs with one negative doubler on each MOT. The MOTs are wired Antiphase for 100hz output. But don't forget the extra diodes on the output of the doublers. The extra diodes are pointing into the doubler because of the negative voltage.
